I am a cute little character, I might be a cross between a Boston Terrier and a Jack Russell, but only a DNA will tell because my dad left town and my mom isn’t saying!  I am a little girl 7 months, good with other little dogs, spayed, vaccinated, dewormed.

Almost housetrained now but I need still a bit of reminding to get me perfect!  Sweet nature, not a mean bone in me.  Loves to play with other dogs, submissive in nature so would make a good second little dog.  I  need a lot of love, I just soak up a hug or any affection.  Playful, and cute as a button!

Crate trained, but I will rattle my crate if I have to go out to eliminate!!  Really need someone home as a pup shouldn’t be left alone all day!  You will just LOVE me, give me a chance!

  Sammi & Bailey

Great things come in pairs!

We'd like to place these female BASSET HOUND pups TOGETHER, if possible!

They were in a home together, littermates,  and had to be given up because of a move.  VERY WELL SOCIALIZED, delightful!  Preference will be given to Basset experienced people who know the breed.

Puppy vaccines done, Max  5 & Rabies, dewormed, no fleas.  WILL BE STERILIZED by GERDY’S RESCUES as part of our adoption fee, at proper time.  3 ½  and a half months old!  Both pups progressing well with their housetraining and are very nice natured.

Need a securely fenced in yard as they will follow their nose if left loose.  Their sense of smell is second only to the bloodhound, so they will wander if let loose.

The girls will sleep together in a crate, but any puppies are not for people who work outside the home all day, as they have to go out frequently as part of their housetraining.

SAMMI (Above left)

23 pounds is the larger of the two and has white around her neck.   Like her sister, she is very social and has an outgoing personality, beautifully sweet natured.   Loves to explore and learning not to trip over her ears.  Full of affection, she loves to cuddle for lovies.  Very playful, loves to roll on her back. Great personality!

BAILEY (Below left)

22 pounds is a doll of a girl, very social and sweet. Follows her sister everywhere exploring and playing together.  If she thinks she can get you to carry her about, she LOVES that!  Beautifully affectionate like her sister, and also well adjusted gal.

VERY SWEET, EXCEPTIONAL, PUPS!

  Grizzly

This young cat is the SWEETEST, MOST AFFECTIONATE, and TALKATIVE cat! And now so good looking as well, tall and lanky looking as if he were an exotic, he was found as a stray with a huge abscess on his head, he was taken in my a sympathetic person who saw he went to the vet for treatment and is now recovered.

But she couldn't keep him so Gerdy's took him on. Grizzly is so gentle and had been neutered, 6 1/2 pounds of LOVE.  He likes people and is not shy of humans. If you talk to him, he replies! A real chatterbox!  Imagine what a tale he could tell!

Grizzly is hopeful of a new and secure home where he will be an INDOOR cat only, and if he can be the only cat he would like that after his difficult days getting picked on outside alone by other stronger cats.

  Adopted
  Charlot

What a HUGE and handsome boy he is!  A tri-colour male BASSET HOUND, Charlot is 3 years old.   He is friendly with cats, other nice dogs, and loves children.

Completely HOUSETRAINED.  Can be left loose in the house without destroying anything, he has never been crated and doesn’t need to be. He needs a house, not a condo or apartment as he can whine for a bit when left alone, that is his ONLY fault and not a hard thing to deal with.

Charlot is a quiet well behaved boy,  loves his walks, and very gentle—nit a mean bone in him. A magnificent Basset boy in every way!

Charlot is neutered, vaccinated rabies & Max 5, heartworm tested negative, dewormed, flea free.

  Adopted
  Tigger

Tigger is a bouncy girl pup of 4 months, born in mid-August  20, 2011.  She was given up because of a child’s allergy. She is 23 pounds now and her ancestors are a mystery—but we think she is boxer, shepherd, and husky—what’s your guess?  A real Heinz 57!

Her coat is beautiful and very dramatic, she will be a beauty when full grown!  Her floppy ears are very expressive! Tigger is learning to go outside for her housetraining,  and is a happy pup.  She loves to play!  And loves her walks on leash.

She will be spayed under Gerdy’s when a bit older, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, dewormed, and flea free. Tigger like any young pup, is best for a family with someone home to mind and train her, and take her out during the day—not being shut in a crate all day while people are at work, she is too young to be left so long.

She is very bright, and a quick learner — potentially great for AGILITY!  Are YOU Tigger’s Pooh Bear?

  Adopted
  Miss Tippy

This year-old Miss was found in a back yard, starving. She was taken to a vet when discovered and was spayed, FIV and FelV tested (negative), vaccinated and treated for ear mites.  She has no fleas or parasites.  Now in a foster home, she is enjoying the company of other cats.

She loves playing and is a real sweetheart when it comes to affection!  One touch and she purrs like a Harley-Davidson!  She does not use her claws in play—she will playfully grab hands with her front paws when she’s in a playful mood—but will not scratch or bite!

Very gentle considering she had been thrown out to fend for herself!  Very good using her litterbox, she likes to lie down when she eats which is quite unusual for a young kitty lady!  Sweet nature, clean habits, healthy condition, Miss Tippy has it all!  A lovely domestic shorthair TABBY, beautifully marked.

Will you let her spend her next 8 lives in the security and love of YOUR home?

He is very gentle, loves children, and is good with dogs and cats, indoor pet.    He LOVES to play and is not a barker!  Born July 17, 2010, Tyson has many years of devotion to offer.

  Adopted
  Jack Boy

A Golden Retriever Mix, 8 months old, 44 lbs, and came to us undernourished.  He is strong and needs training, but is very good natured!

He was taken from a high kill pound by a girl who wanted to save him from being killed, she thought she had a home for him but it did not work out so she brought him to the Dog Adoption Event in Beaconsfield but couldn’t find a rescue to take him, so asked Gerdy’s, and he was accepted by us.

Jack Boy has been vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and is on Revolution, neutered.  Jack Boy is handsome and gaining weight now.  He awaits his forever home!

  Adopted
  Samantha

Sam is the PERFECT family dog!  Loves everyone—kids to seniors, and not a mean bone in her.  Samantha showed up on a back deck looking for help, and in spite to all efforts it became apparent this rather short 4-5 year old girl had simply been abandoned.  So now Sam seeks a permanent family to call her own.

Samantha is spayed, vaccinated, dewormed  and is all mutt, but seems to be a Black Lab Mix of some sort. Suffice to say, Sam is very PROUD of her heritage and is a jolly girl who is very well behaved even when alone in the house.  She sleeps well at night on her big pillow until morning!

Nicely energetic, playful and trustworthy nature. Extremely affectionate and loves attention and getting her belly scratched, loves to cuddle as well as her walks.  Likely was a mother at some point. She has great dexterity with her paws playing with her ball while on her back—here is a natural for Agility folks! She would LOVE that!

This girl has so much going for her, it is amazing that someone abandoned her. Samantha deserves to be loved and to feel secure, are you the family for Samantha?

  Adopted
  Monty

Monty has been returned to us—he is a GREAT DOG but cannot give up chasing the family cat, so we are seeking a cat-free home for Monty!

A typical  Goldendoodle of only 4 years, Monty is a WONDERFUL family dog!  LOVES children, other dogs. Monty is an exuberant boy who loves life but who CAN settle down and be calm when he wants to!

Monty loves to play and is HOUSETRAINED.  He is too active for very small children so kids 8 and up only. He is boisterous in play!   We recommend an obedience training course for Monty to teach him the dog social graces and people manners!

We want him as the only dog in the home as he loves all the attention and needs it.   He won’t bark to go out, he stands at the door like the gentleman he is! Monty can do a few tricks too, and is a very quick to learn.

Not a barker, he will if someone comes to the door to tell you.  Monty is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, dewormed, heartworm tested negative. If he is exercised in a fenced back yard first, he handles well on a leash walk.

Monty if allowed off-leash, will run excitedly in circles unmindful of approaching danger, like a car on the road.  HE CANNOT BE OFF LEASH EVER!   Not a mean bone!

There is a claim that “Doodles” are hypoallergenic, but such is not the case in our experience, Monty was given up because of allergy of a young child to him. Monty has a great love of life and is a jolly boy, you cannot be in a bad mood around our Monty!

  Adopted
  Onyx

HERE HE IS - all 166 pounds of LOVE, GENTLENESS - the typical HUGE Newfoundland dog that everyone loves and admires!  Onyx is the purebred Landseer which is the white and black colouring.

Four years old, Onyx LOVES people, dogs, cats - not a mean bone in him!  We are very proud of this boy and he has NEVER lived outside but was a well-loved house dog only.  But they were moving to a small apartment and the landlord would not allow Onyx to live there as he felt Onyx too big for the space.  So we promised to find Onyx a new, loving home where he'd never have to worry about being too big ever again!!

Sterilized, he does not mind getting his nails trimmed or a vet exam, even vaccines and intranasal bordatella did not make him flinch one bit!  He put up with it all in good humour!  Heartworm tested negative, Onyx is good to go, is in very good health.

If a Gentle Giant is for you, Onyx is waiting patiently!

  Adopted
  Little Bear

We were doing a fundraiser in front of Little Bear downtown not long ago when Gerdy got a call from DMV about this 5 month old Boxer pup who had been hit by a car. He sustained a serious break to his leg and was left at DMV so Gerdy had the needed surgery done.

He is now recuperating nicely with a vet tec and her family, as he needs cage rest and careful walking for the weeks coming.  But in the meantime, he has put on weight nicely, he was very thin when we got him.

A jolly pup, he has a real good personality, all Boxer, and sees only the best in people.  Very trusting and affectionate.  He was neutered during his surgery, vaccinated Bordatella, Rabies & Max 5, dewormed and has no fleas.  All the staff at DMV loved him!

  Adopted
  Happy

Happy, a little male Springer Spaniel,  5 months of age and 18 pounds, was left at a vet clinic with a broken leg after apparently being hit by a car.

The people who brought him in claimed it was not their dog but left a medical booklet for him at the counter as he was handed over.

Gerdy’s was asked to take over his case as otherwise he’d have been euthanized.  So now HAPPY is recovering nicely in his foster home where he is being adopted.

Happy will be neutered by Gerdy’s, is vaccinated, dewormed.  A jolly pup, Happy is indeed a very sweet boy and delightful to have around.  He is living up to his name Gerdy gave him!

  Adopted
  Chico Lad

And what a PATIENT, trusting  boy he is!  Given up because of the expected birth of an 8th child, Chico Lad loves children, and cats especially.  Good with other dogs.

Chico Lad loves driving in the car, will gladly take a back seat, sitting regally as he is chauffeured about! He is 56 pounds, and 4 years old,  a German Shepherd Mix and a CALM boy.

Neutered, he is vaccinated Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies, dewormed, no fleas, heartworm tested and on Revolution preventative.  Very handsome too with sweet loving eyes and expression, Chico Lad will win your heart with his calm manner, good on leash too.

Chico is a bundle of love for sure!  Beautiful colouring and soft brown eyes, this is a dog to be proud of.

  Kimo

Well lookie here!!  I am your new pup!  I am 5 months old and 31 pounds, a male,  likely Siberian Husky.  I am not huge, just a darling size to handle.  And SMART! You will be able to train me to do all kinds of things before long!

I have a VERY nice nature, I was loved in my first home but as time passed they realized they did not have the time necessary to devote to an active pup like me.  I am very devoted, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, no fleas, ready to go.  And I am a handsome lad too!

Everyone admires my good looks and friendly manner. I am looking for my forever family with a securely fenced back yard for me to exercise in and play with you--, are you them?

  Adopted
  Luna

This sweet Husky was abandoned by her owner and awaits her new home.  Luna is very playful, and is a young girl.  Luna will of course need obedience training as she has never had training but is smart and a quick learner!

She has a small build, and will need a  house with a securely fenced back yard in which to exercise with you and run off her energy.

Spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, Luna is on Revolution as a heartworm preventative.

  Adopted
  Bianca

I showed up at a  Gerdy Fundraising event, stuck by the door so I was noticed as a stray, then got my wish—I was rescued as a Gerdy’s cat!!  No more lonely outdoor life for me.

Now I seek a loving and permanent home!  And am I a beauty! I am a longhaired domestic SILVER TABBY - what a looker I am.  But I was still thrown out to fend for myself!

I am about 9 months-1 year old, a female.  I have been spayed, FIV/FelV tested negative, vaccinated, dewormed, no fleas.

I have a WONDERFUL temperament, calm and sweet, and I LOVE to be held gently and appreciated.  I am quite the little lady, dignified and regal.  Yet friendly and down to earth.  My gorgeous tail is a PLUME, and my pride and joy!

Beautiful to look at and a soul to match, that’s ME! Bianca!

  Adopted
  Marvin

This goof of a sweet Golden Retriever  is a 1 year old handsome boy, (born Oct 31, 2010), who was abandoned by his owner through no fault of Marvin’s.

Not a mean bone, but a jolly fun-loving dog, Marvin is a typical Golden—trusting, friendly to all, ready to be your new best friend.  An ideal family dog, Marvin only needs obedience training  (walking) to be the Bon Vivant of the neighbourhood!  A dog to be proud of!

Marvin is heartworm tested negative-- on Revolution, dewormed,  soon to be neutered by Gerdy’s, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies.  Marvin would likely do well with another friendly dog or Golden as he LOVES other dogs, and children.

Look at this face showing his soul in his eyes—is he the dog for YOU?

  Adopted
  Keisha

Compassionate Placement

Beautiful and sweet natured, well behaved and a quiet lady of 61 pounds, Keisha is 11 years young.  Still active and alert.  Not a mean bone in her, she is used to children, she  gets along well with other friendly dogs.

DOES NOT SUFFER FROM SEPARATION ANXIETY, an easy dog,  Left alone in the house she never chewed anything.  Friendly with cats, she would allow cats to climb on her back and would LICK the cats and play with them.  They even ate together side by side.

Keisha hardly ever barks, and NEVER jumps on people to show her joy in seeing them.  Keisha is a very CALM dog and just basically just sleeps, eats, and goes out when she needs it.  VERY GOOD CAR TRAVELLER, experienced in the car and super will behaved in it—LOVES to go to sleep in the car while travelling!

She had to be given up for medical reasons in the family but they adored her.  A Golden Retriever,   Keisha is outgoing and friendly.  Spayed, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated, Keisha will be a TREASURE to some lucky family!

  Adopted
  Taz

Only 6 months old and 51 pounds, Taz appears to be poised to be a Big Boy when full grown! He is thought to be a Shepherd/Lab Mix, and is very puppy-like, playful and friendly! With a handsome and interesting face, Taz is a dog of striking appearance, but a country boy at heart,  eager to make you the center of his universe.

A bit big and active for toddlers, we recommend Taz for more grown up kids, he will love to play ball with them!  Now TAZ does need discipline in walking and a training course would really pay off for him in handling well. He is smart and a quick learner!

Neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, on Revolution for heartworm prevention, Taz is just awaiting your call whereupon he will pack his suitcase and  you can carry it HOME for him!

  Adopted
  Whisper

Whisper is a TINY adult cat of 6 pounds, very petite girl of one year and SO pretty!  She had a hard beginning to her life and was likely undernourished as a kitten.  But she is a born survivor, and thanks to the intervention of her very own earth angel,  who saved her when her owner passed away.

She has been to the vet where she was spayed, tested negative for FeLV and FIV, vaccinated, dewormed, treated so no fleas.  Whisper is a gentle little INDOOR ONLY cat, very affectionate and quiet.

She loves to curl up near people or on a friendly lap. Play with a toy for cats with her and she is a friend for life!  This dainty girl is looking for someone as gentle as she is, do you hear her WHISPER-ing to you “take me home!"?

I am a 40 pound bundle of LOVE!  Not a mean bone, I am about 3 years old.  I lived with an Animal Hoarder along with a bunch of other dogs, me and my mom Wilma.

Me and mom made our way to Gerdy’s to find a new home but mom Wilma is not ready for adoption yet.  I will be spayed in January, as I started my heat and have to wait until it can be done safely, but I will be spayed by Gerdy’s.

I am a Retriever mix but whatever I am, I am BEAUTIFUL, and interesting!  I will be a GREAT FAMILY DOG!  I am vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, dewormed, no fleas.

Such a nice dog you will say!  I like other dogs, and they think I would be ok with a cat and of course people!  I am a real charmer!

At 16 pounds, Lacey is a dear APRICOT POODLE too old anymore for PUPPYMILL BREEDING but still has years left as a treasure of a dog, to be loved in someone’s home.

Lacey DESERVES a break, she is an older girl and is so sweet and loving.  Now SPAYED and therefore retired from the rigors of constant motherhood, this sweetheart  is heartworm tested negative, dewormed, and vaccinated, and is all set for her FREEDOM to just be a DOG once more, adored by a real family and treated like the queen she is at heart.

Curly Lacey is a real darling and is ready for someone with a heart full of love to give to one special girl!

  Adopted
  Scooby

Scooby is a dear little girl—well, not so “little” she is as big as the pumpkin she stands beside but still dear.

You see, Scooby was overfed so much by someone that she was double the weight she should be; over 38 pounds!  For a PUGGLE, that is obese!  A so-called Designer Dog, she is a mix of Pug and Beagle.  She eventually ended up in a shelter when she was no longer wanted.

She is only 2 years old so she needs someone who can help her manage her weight and get her fit again.  Her adopter MUST not love her to death with food or treats but have the sense to stick with the program and HELP this chunky monkey be the 19 pounder she needs to be.  She has already lost 6 POUNDS!

If you have  the ability to be her own personal trainer  as well as her earth angel to love her forever, please consider Scooby as your next dog.

She has a lovely nature, spayed, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, heartworm tested negative, dewormed, no fleas—all set to go!

One of the sweetest natured dogs we have ever had!

  Grenouille (aka Daisy)

I was found by kind Montreal Policemen cowering fearfully in the only refuge I could find, alone in the world and terrified, under a garden shed.  I had been terrorized for several days they said, and I would trust NOBODY.  I didn’t WANT to bite and never did, but I looked as brave and fearless as my little 19 pounds would let me,  I tried to look scary and keep people and animals from hurting me.  And that was SOME acting job as I am cute as a button—it was hard to look tough instead.

The policemen brought me to the emergency clinic DMV where a kind worker there took the time to reassure me, to be near her and feel more secure. Now I bark a bit and growl when near people I have not met, but I recognize and trust those I have met.

I was going to be euthanized as no one claimed me, so she took me home with her and will look after me until Gerdy finds me a loving home.  I am just going to get better and better with time, love, and patience as I ADAPT QUICKLY!!  I am a white Terrier Mix, with half-length hair, about 1 year old, and I will be spayed.  I tested negative for heartworm, no known health problem,  vaccinated.

I can be fearful with other animals for a few minutes but then really sociable and nice with all dogs.  I am not tried with cats though.  My foster says I am affectionate and touchy-feely, needing a lot of love! Doesn’t care for baths but likes to play in the water.

I tolerate the vet cages well so will not mind being crated at all, and, people, -- I HEEL ON LEASH!  Can you give this dumped orphan a loving home—I DO give kisses when people are nice to me in gratitude for patience!

Update:  He loves to play with small dogs his size, ideally a friendly one around his size would be great for him.  Very loving boy!

I was a puppy mill breeder dog, a little 7 lb Pekinese who has now hardly any teeth as no one gave me proper nutrition or care, I was just part of a breeding operation to make money for someone.

My age is likely around 5 years, I am very skinny too, BUT I LOVE people and am very social.  I have to get the hang of actually going for WALKS!  Beats being in a cage all the time!  I am now neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, vet checked and ready to be adopted by someone who wants a little size Peke like me!

Big things come in smaller packages, so I am ready to bring a TON of joy into your life!

  White Fang

I was dumped, tied up to a pole in Ottawa. The Ottawa Humane Society traced me to Gerdy’s through the tags on my collar.  I was a Gerdy dog! Gerdy drove to Ottawa to pick me up and bring me back.

She has never had a Gerdy’s dog dumped before. I had been adopted out 3 years ago, what happened that I was never returned to Gerdy’s instead is what Gerdy is investigating and will pursue. Besides that, Gerdy found me to be obese in weight, I am 105 pounds, VERY overweight, so will be on a weight reduction program starting immediately.

On the bright side, folks, I am a WONDERFUL family dog!  Absolutely clean in the house.  Nice nature, easy-going.  I love kids, grown ups, cats, get along with other friendly dogs, LOVE the car, and I do well on leash with a Gentle Leader.

I am about 4 years old now, a neutered boy, and very handsome.  I am a German Shepherd likely with a bit of Husky maybe, but mostly shepherd.  I have the nature of the dog on Littlest Hobo, I am so sweet!

Gerdy is seeing I have all my vaccines updated and whatever I need.  I will need to be walked and gradually get conditioned to enough exercise to tone my body to its original sleekness.

Can YOU be my personal trainer?

SPIRIT - The Frostbitten Cat

The story in the saviours own words:

“A few weeks ago in that frigid cold weather a cat came to take refuge on my gallery.  It looked awful! It appeared to have lots of scabs on its legs.  I opened the door to try and catch it to bring it in, but it ran away…. I was sure it would die in that cold weather.

Every night I kept looking out the window, hoping it would reappear and I could save it. Well it did, looking even worse.  I slowly opened the door and it actually let me pick it up and bring it into the house. I was not prepared to deal with I saw. It had frozen legs, and was extremely skinny. I fed it and set him up in a box with a blanket for the night!

The next day I went to the vet clinic to have it checked out.  I was told “he” had frostbite on all his legs, and his stomach, and would need some intensive “hydrotherapy.”(Which I did faithfully every day for 3 weeks) Well, after spending $300, on antifungal medication, a shot for infection, a blood test to make sure his kidneys were OK, a cats “aids” test and some pain medication, home we went.

It’s now a month since he has been rehabbing and he is doing very well, his hair is almost all grown back and he is steadily gaining weigh, but unfortunately, I cannot keep him, as I already have 4 cats and a dog, and he is a bit scared as he has been through so much. He needs to build his confidence, which he cannot do with my animals.

He is truly a diamond in the rough who clearly deserves a second chance. Would you consider accepting him into your rescue? Attached are some photos which clearly illustrate how much progress he has made.  I named him "Spirit", as it took a lot of spirit to get through such a harrowing time, a very brave boy.”

Comment from Gerdy:

Happily, Spirit is recovering well from his ordeal, and has been neutered.  He is still a bit nervous and apprehensive, after nearly freezing to death—the fate of many cats and kittens this winter, after being dumped  from their homes to freeze outdoors by their owners when they tired of them, moved away, noticed cats were pregnant and dumped the whole problem outdoors.

The excuses are many but the results the same.  Spirit was one of the few lucky ones who will make it.  The average life of an INDOOR cat is 20 years, the average lifespan of a Montreal area OUTDOOR cat is 2 years MAXIMUM.  Most die in their first winter outside, it is hard to make it in -35 degree windchill and no food, water, or warm shelter. Kittens do not survive, and mothers perish with the tiny new babies they will not abandon, curled up around them, giving her life in a futile effort  to keep them warm. THIS DOES NOT NEED TO HAPPEN!

SPAY or NEUTER YOUR CATS AND KITTENS, that is the only answer to this tragedy.  And if you SEE a cat struggling to survive, have a heart, take him to a vet to be examined, vaccinated, sterilized—and you give him a safe indoor home, do your part.  If everyone helped so many could be saved, as it is it is a yearly sacrifice and time of suffering for countless innocents outdoors and helpless to protect themselves from the elements.

THANK YOU, MARY P., for saving Spirit and helping us by vetting him at your expense, so all we had to do was the neuter.  You are a true Earth Angel for Spirit!  (Mary has a home with all the pets she can manage so we are looking for an adoptive home for Spirit)

I am a loveable Bichon Frise boy, white with a bit of beige, whose owner had no more time for me but wanted me to find someone who does.  Can that be you?

I am about 3 ½ years old, and a VERY social boy, I do not snap, but am very trusting.  Not for a home with young children as I am a  wee guy who could easily get unintentionally hurt with kids carrying me around.

I am looking for someone with the time to fuss over and groom me properly, I am crate trained.  Neutered, vaccinated and ready to pack my suitcase at short notice!

Compassionate Placement

OH I was SO glad to get in from the cold, all I wanted to do is SLEEP in the warmth!!  I am a very laid-back boy who wanted to LIVE—so I sat on a doorstep in freezing weather  and CRIED until I was brought inside, but I couldn’t stay as there were allergies in the family.  Oh I was SO cold!

I made my way to Gerdy’s and as I was vetted I was discovered to be FIV POSITIVE.  My vet says I am healthy, it is best I am in a family with no other cats, but I’d do fine with a nice dog.  I am about 2 years old and am a Domestic Shorthair

DECLAWED IN FRONT, about 9 ½ pounds of gorgeous boy --orange tabby with white—if you have an FIV cat I would be a great companion.  I am neutered, vaccinated and dewormed, all set to go.  Gerdy just wants me to have a loving INDOOR ONLY home, I am very gentle and love to be cuddled.  Everyone says I am a HANDSOME guy.

PLEASE consider taking a needy guy like me!  I WAS adopted but the lady was injured so I was returned to Gerdy’s care a month ago and am again looking for a new home, she said I was a very loving boy who deserved a chance, PUHLEESE????

I was found abandoned, found  standing on a porch, by a nice lady who took me in, and called Gerdy.  I am only about 2 months old, a darling little girl of GREAT temperament, weighing 14 pounds.  I have a lot of growing to do, as I seem to be a Shepherd Mix.

Everyone loves me who sees me!  I am a roly poly baby who LOVES attention and I am very social and gentle for such a young pup. I am going to be a BEAUTIFUL big  girl everyone says, and my heart is pure gold!  I have partly blue eyes with the brown, which makes my eyes very dramatic & beautiful.

I will be spayed when old enough under Gerdy’s Rescues, vaccinated, Revolution given, dewormed, and vet  examined healthy!  I am currently in foster care practicing my housetraining and doing well.

My face mask is brown to set me off nicely!  I need a loving family with someone home during the day to care for me like any other baby, and I’d LOVE my own safe fenced back yard to play in too!

Want a GREAT family dog? I’m your girl! Gentle, playful and young, yet respectful, I have not a mean bone in me. I'm a  German Shepherd mix of the BEST temperament!

I was brought to the SPCA by people who found me wandering about and it was discovered I needed surgery to repair a hurt to my hip. So Gerdy’s took me into their care and had the surgery done and I am recovering just GREAT, am walking  well now.

I will be just FINE, the surgeon is very pleased with my progress and wants me to run as much as possible now. I am spayed, vaccinated, I get along fine with other nice dogs like me, and I LOVE all people!

Donations welcome to help with vet expenses.

Beka is spayed, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies, dewormed and no fleas.  Beka is one of the nicest beagle girls we have ever had, calm and would make a wonderful companion for a quiet-living person who would walk her and then cuddle and watch tv with her! Beka is easy to please and just wants to be loved!

Reason for surrender to Gerdy’s—children’s allergies.

This dear Bernese Mountain Dog is 5 years old and 85 pounds of love. A handsome boy, nice and active, he was returned 3 times to a shelter and was going to be euthanized as a result.  WHY?

Because he has a hip dysplasia. Though it doesn’t limit his activities, people returned him  IN CASE a problem would develop.  He has no problem getting around.  He is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested negative.

Will you be the LUCKY NUMBER 4 for Balou and give him the home he craves?  He is SUCH a GOOD BOY, kind, loving, and playful!

Aunt Bea

This gal likes to be in on the action!  The first to arrive when she senses excitement, she is very nosy and has to investigate herself to get all the facts!  Loves to spread the latest gossip and will tell you all about her day.  She loves to hear all your news and will tell all your secrets to her feline friends—but she has a good heart, and is very affectionate!  Mostly white with a totally black tail!

Aunt Bea watches the Food Network when they do Fish cooking themes, and is devoted to CSI, often solving the mystery early then taking a satisfied  nap, as the humans figure it out.

I AM A LOVELY Golden Retriever girl who was taken to a shelter as I was 7 years old and was going to be euthanized as I had run out of time.   I am a spayed gal, up to date now on my vaccines—Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies--, dewormed in case, heartworm tested negative.

I do have hip dysplasia (found on xray) BUT you’d never know it as  I play normally and have a ball, I am as active as a 3 year old!!  My foster mother says I exhibit no problems at all, and  my vet thinks it can be controlled quite easily WITHOUT surgery with just Glucosamine.

I am one of the sweetest natured Goldens you will ever meet!  Since having the efforts of a wonderful dog experienced foster mum and dad, I have been upgraded “to being very obedient, a quick study, anxious to please, and NEVER makes the same mistake twice.

I no longer even look at couches or beds, I ADORE scratches and cuddles,  hip problems do not bother me at all and consequently, I LOVE to walk—and I now do well on a leash until another dog comes along and—I just HAVE to go and introduce myself after which I get back to my walk as the princess I think I am!  Car rides—well I would give ANYTHING to get in a car—I LOVE car rides and am such a good girl  People think I am a puppy—I am so joyful.  And BEAUTIFUL!

I have a lovely lush coat of which I am very proud!  I have soft eyes and am gentle, all I want is affection!  I am very good in the car, and love to go on walks.  On leash because it is safe!  I love to be where humans are, being  very social.  I have a beautiful smile and a very regal head—you will be so proud of me!

Can I be your Sherry, cherie??

Luckily for her she made her way to Gerdy’s Rescues where we will find her a wonderful home for the dear little SPANIEL she is.  Well behaved, great natured, she is a remarkable girl considering her life in production.

Taffy is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, dewormed.  A big heart, optimism, and devotion are what Taffy has to offer—do you have a security to offer her the rest of her life?

This 8 month old, sweet German Shepherd X is SUCH a GOOD GIRL!  She has had a training course and can walk well on leash without pulling!  What a smart girl, a quick learner!

Very good with kids and accepts a cat.  No food or toy possession, but she likes to remove the stuffing from her toy to see what is inside, for the fun of it!

Spayed, Ava gets her Revolution for heartworm prevention every month, and is vaccinated for Max 5, Leptospirosis, rabies, and Bordatella.  In foster care for Gerdy, arrangements can be made to take &  show her to interested families.

  Souka

This sweet,  beautiful brown and white girl is about 1 year old, and  45 pounds, possibly a Siberian Husky. She was found wandering all alone, likely dumped by her owner.  This dog has a REMARKABLE nature!

Souka is spayed; she has her rabies shot and the regular booster shots. On Revolurion heartworm preventative.   Souka loves going for walks and she is very good on a leash, unless she sees a squirrel!

Souka is a little shy at first, but warms up very quickly. She is good with kids, adults and other dogs. Souka has gotten used to indoor cats, but she still sees outdoor cats as toys or prey.  Calm & gentle, a real sweet girl!

Souka needs a house with a  secure fenced-in yard and someone who has time to exercise her properly. Although she is a nice girl who is house trained, she shouldn’t be left alone in the house unless she is in crate as she does tend to do her business in the house if you are not there and she is not in her crate. She may simply need a little bit more house training to get passed this.

Souka is a great girl and her foster family has become quiet attached to her. They will be upset to see her go, but they will be very happy for her when she finds a good home.

  Adopted
  Gandy

Gandy is a very spiritual dog!  This is a wonderful dog who has survived with the help of “earth angels” all that humanity did to him, and kept his noble spirit intact.  You see, Gandy was found alone completely dehydrated, abandoned  in extreme heat with no water source in sight, in the middle of a deserted country road.  Gandy was almost too far gone to survive.

He was 6 or 7 months old, a German Shepherd/black lab mix weighing a very starving 30 pounds!  He was seen by a female driver who picked him up and took him home.  Gandy appreciated every drop of water and morsel of food she gave him for a week. His 2nd earth angel came along and treated him for fleas and parasites.

Then a 3rd earth angel took him  to their home of 4 dogs but it did not work out with one of their dogs, so Gandy has to find someone else.  That is when he met his 4th earth angel, a close friend with a yellow Lab, Marla and a sweet daughter.  He went to stay with them as they all worked to find him a good home.

During that time, it was discovered Gandy likes to SWIM, and LIKES KITTENS,  CATS &  KIDS  and OTHER DOGS.   He is VERY AFFECTIONATE and bears no psychological scars from his horrible experience.  Well mannered most of the time as young pups are, he is nicely OBEDIENT, and tries his best.  Gandy does not impose himself  and is respectful of another animal’s space.

Loves a good cuddle and has a good appetite!!  He walks well on leash now and listens to commands SIT and NO.  It took awhile to housetrain him but now he is successful.  Time was passing AND NO NEW HOME WAS FOUND. Then the 5th earth angel came in the form of our Gerdy and she took him under Gerdy’s Rescues to vet him and find him a new home.  So Gandy has had a lot of people in his corner to give him a fresh start as a loved and wanted dog!

Neutered, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5 and Rabies, heartworm tested (negative) he is now on Revolution heartworm preventative, no fleas.  His coat is looking better with good food they gave him and he continues to gain much needed weight.  He is now a healthier 41 lbs and gaining nicely.  This is a nice- size SUPER FAMILLY DOG and Completely trustworthy.

Sweetly fun-loving, Gandy has so much love to give people in his life and holds no grudges.  We can all take a lesson from Gandy!

Molly is a delightful little girl of such good nature, who is glad to be alive and is looking for a new home. Everyone who meets her is impressed by her personality and fun-loving nature.

Spayed, Molly is current on her vaccines and is ready for her new home.  She is smart, and quick to make friends with people who just love her on sight!  Molly is one special gal!

Jolie is a people dog!  Very devoted to people, she is extraordinarily friendly and affectionate.  We think she was never socialized with other dogs, BUT we had her schooled by Mario Dogs and now she is used to other dogs as well!  She is fine!

Jolie is devoted to the human species, of that there is no doubt.  Ideal if she is the only pet in the home, would be best as she has missed out on having a family devoted to her all her life and it would be nice if for once she could have all the attention she deserves!

Dainty and ladylike, about 3 years old, a beautiful Husky Mix blue eyed beauty!  Jolie was saved from a high  kill gassing  pound where she was to have been euthanized.  She was one of 31 dogs saved from that hell.  If you invest the time giving attention to  this girl, you will have a devoted canine friend.

Spayed, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies, heartworm tested negative, vet checked, dewormed, no fleas--Jolie is all set to go!  A real good looking girl, she looks forward to a loving home to call her own.

This is the little man to watch your favourite tv program with, (he will sleep through the boring parts) and he gets along well with other friendly animals.  Loves little walks and meeting people, easy to carry, and very kissable!

Groomed for summer, Chico had been abandoned by his owner, and was brought to Gerdy’s by a kind woman. He is now neutered, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, and Rabies, dewormed, heartworm tested negative and on Revolution preventative, all set to go to his new life with YOU!

  Maggie

This sweet black and white HUSKY  is about 1 year old, a 43 pound girl, possibly a Siberian Husky,  who was saved from a high kill pound the day she was to be destroyed.  Her crime?  She went unclaimed by her owners or was picked up as a stray and her time ran out very quickly.  Either way, she was saved just in time.

She is a nice girl, but she may need help in housetraining, which can be done easily with crate training.  Huskys “talk” to you as anyone who loves the breed can tell you, so not really suited to an apartment or condo where a dog has to be absolutely silent for the neighbours. for.

Maggie is spayed, with her vaccines max 5, rabies, bordatella.  Maggie while great with kids and adults, has a prey drive for cats and tiny dogs which she sees as toys!  She is a happy dog, playful, and a good girl.

Maggie looks for a new leash on life in a home with a securely fenced-in yard for you and her to play in, and loves a nice long walk.  Maggie will “ask” to go for her walks and “tell” you how happy she is—just you see!!

I am about 8 months old now,  born Nov 1, 2010), and clean in my crate.  I listen well for my age and am very intelligent.  Excellent character too—and aren’t I a cute mix of Weimariner  and French Spaniel?

Neutered, vaccinated max 5, rabies, bordatella, dewormed.  Look at my ears—now when did you last see a cutie-patootie like me I ask you?  I will be a great family dog!

Chico Man loves to sleep in your bed, and will spend the night there without moving, if permitted!   He needs a family or someone able to give him the time, attention and love that he needs.  Loving and playful, he has lived with another dog and a cat.  Loves to go for walks, but just as happy to run supervised around your fenced yard.  He doesn’t love the car and will at times get car sick.  But he WILL settle in well for a long drive once he relaxes, cozied up on a blanket or lap.   He is about 6 ½ lbs, white with beige shading and is about 15 months old.  He is neutered and vaccinated.  Chico Man has travelled by plane and is small enough to go on board in his carrier, he has travelled well on the plane.  Chico has been given over to Gerdy’s because of lack of time that he so deserves.  He loves to be babied, and will make you feel very loved as well.  Not snappy, he has one of the best Chi temperaments we have ever had.

Note from Gerdy:

Chico Man is an exceptional Chihuahua!  He is a sweet, sensitive and timid wee guy, as most Chis are. Chico Man is happiest when he sits or lies on your lap—he is a true lap dog!

We are seeking an adult home as he is too delicate for young children to carry around or play with.

  Flora

Flora was found abandoned beside a metro station, leg bleeding and looking so sad. Her rescuer called Gerdy who arranged for immediate vet care, now she is ready for a wonderful home to come her way.

She is a dear girl, very gentle, about 4-5 years old estimated by the vet.  We don’t know what she is because the vet thought she may have had her coat shaved down, as the fur seems like a soft undercoat rather than the outside fur.  Flora looks like a bit of a long-legged Jack Russell mix right now.

Her leg is healing over well , we don’t know if they are bite marks or injury, but on the mend.  Her little paw pads however remain sore, maybe it was from hot pavement or a long time wandering, but even they are healing well she is being walked on grass only right now until they heal over.

This is a lovely doggie about 17 pounds, who adores affection.  She is spayed, vaccinated for bordatella, max 5, rabies, dewormed, no fleas, heartworm tested negative.

Flora has had a rough time of it, are you the people she needs to make it all better?

I am  9 months old now and was one of 4 puppies dumped in front of a vet clinic when we were 4 months old.  I am now 45 lbs, neutered, vaccinated, and on Revolution for heartworm prevention.

I am a GOOD family dog, being confident, very social, intelligent , I LOVE people  and I am very intelligent!  I love to play or just relax with people!  I am a lovable mutt although I look very handsome, maybe blond lab and boxer, tho one of my siblings resembled a St Bernard!!  I have loving eyes, and am such a GOOD boy!

May be a Boxer Mix Shepherd, who knows, or just loveable mutt—either way she is a dear dear girl!  And will make a wonderful family dog.  Chili is skinny at just 42 lbs but is gaining weight now that she's on good food.

She was seen being thrown from the window of a moving car, and ran away.  People looked for her for 2 weeks before hunger drove her to seek help.  Now she is eating and looking better with every day that passes.

She is a BEAUTIFUL girl—appealing eyes—affectionate, loving, calm for her age, a good girl who will follow you around, craves love and displays of affection.  Very intelligent, would be easy to train to walk well on leash, etc.

A very deserving dog, as are all abandoned in this manner by thoughtless owners.  Chili is now gaining nicely.  Spayed, vaccinated.

Our WONDERFUL dog GUNTHER is ready for adoption into his forever home --  Gunther is a real miracle dog.  For those of you who did not see coverage of his story in Your Local Journal, here is Gunther’s story in brief:

Basically this dog was almost bald, was seen on a deadly cold day in winter by a couple whose car passed him on the road. On the way back later,  the dog was still there, shaking severely from cold, so they stopped and took him in their car, for which he was VERY grateful.

Not many people would have done that, -- the dog looked terrible and stank because of his severe skin condition.  They could not understand how this dog came to be there or survived in the bitter cold with almost no protective fur,  it looked like ¾ of his coat was gone!  Someone got that dog no medical help but kept him til he got worse and worse, then we assume just turned him out into the cold, perhaps hoping he’d die of exposure and they would not have to deal with it,-- we have no idea where he would have been kept, but it was cruel.

The woman who took him to safety named him Gunther on the spot.  So we kept the name.  It was a real Good Samaritan act of kindness.  We had Gunther kept in isolation at a vet clinic, and he was treated there for sarcoptic mange -a long process- but now he is COMPLETELY RECOVERED and ready for the best home a dog could get!  Are you the family that Gunther wants most in the world to have?

He is a handsome Black Lab Mix of about  45  pounds and is about  2  years old.  He is now vaccinated up to date -- Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies, and been dewormed, no fleas.  Heartworm tested negative. NEUTERED.

Gunther may be ok with a cat who stands up to a dog, likes other dogs, -- his foster mum says he is one of the best dogs she has ever had. Highly intelligent and wonderful behavior, great on leash.

Great with children, playful and kind, loves to meet people, good in the car.  Likely would love to swim as well!  His heart SINGS with happiness now!

  Theo

This bundle of curly fur is a 5 month-old apricot Labradoodle, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, all set to go.  The reason for giving him up is that there was realization that a puppy is more care than expected and without the time to put into care,  maybe was not a good idea to get a pup after all.

Theo is puppy active, curious, smart, sociable, and a whole lot of fun.  He will need puppy training in obedience to learn his manners, but someone can have a lot of fun with this pup in the process.

Theo is ready for a permanent lifetime commitment — are you?

And oh what a BIG boy am I!!  At 80 pounds at age 8 months, I am a black Lab mix with one eye that is BLUE.  I have not a mean bone in my body either, a gentle near-giant with a heart of gold.

I need a home with a fully fenced back yard for me to play in with you, I am with Gerdy’s because I was not allowed in the apartment building  the family were in— sometimes I dream of the day when NO HUMANS ALLOWED signs are up—but no dog would want to be without human companionship, we animals would NEVER refuse you!!

I am neutered, fully vaccinated & Bordatella too, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, all set to go!  I am energetic because I am a puppy—you must remember that just  because I am a big dog, I am really still just a baby.

I need leash training because I pull right now, but I am VERY smart so will catch on fast.  I am learning how to be clean but will still need you to take over my training.  I so want to please!  I am SUCH a dear boy!

  Adopted
  Rouki

Here I am 3 months old, 19 pounds, a baby pure fawn colour  BOXER with no home.  Tail already docked. I was purchased by a young lady, then her landlord saw me and he refused to let me back into the apartment building!  So after many frantic efforts, she contacted Gerdy and Gerdy took me under her wing.

I am VERY social, great temperament and personality, intelligent, and I love to socialize with other friendly dogs.  I’ll bet I could be won over by a cat too if it was patient enough!  I love adults and kids, but my wee baby teeth are sharp and I like to chew, so kids over 8 years would be best rather than toddlers.  I am easily trainable to a crate right now too!

When I am old enough, I will be neutered as part of my adoption fee by Gerdy’s, I am vaccinated, and dewormed.

So completely charming, you won’t be able to resist me!

  Adopted
  Shamus

Shamus is a very jolly boy who needs 2 things—a weight reduction program as 106 pounds is a BIT much!  And obedience training to learn to walk with patience— on walks he is a joyful puller and strong.

With a proper walking collar or Easy Walk harness he should do fine as he starts his walk training.  He is so joyful, loves the world.  Wants to investigate all that is in it as well!

Shamus is 4 years old, a Black Lab mix,  neutered, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies, dewormed, tested negative for heartworm.  Shamus was turned over to a pound by his long-time family, had run out of time, and was about to be euthanized when we got him.

Shamus has the luck of the Irish and can be the pot of gold at the end of your rainbow!

  Winter

This beautiful Siberian Husky is 40 pounds and is 1 year old.  A male, he along with Spring, were taken from a pound where they would otherwise have been euthanized as no one claimed.

Winter, like all huskys, likes to “talk” on occasion and is VERY smart, he follows all your conversations with interest, whether it pertains to him or not!  He would be easily trained, and is VERY handsome to look at.

He will need a fenced- in yard as all huskys will wander if given the chance, so a house would suit him best. Jolly, not a mean bone, Siberans are known as good family dogs, very affectionate.

Neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, our WINTER will be your WINTER of content!

  Roxie

Compassionate Placement

All we ask is a good, caring home for the rest of her life!

A beautiful and affectionate about  9 year old German Shepherd Mix, a bit shy at first, but quickly warms up, Roxie makes friends with her pretty eyes and ears in full flight pattern!

Ideal for a family with  older teens or a family of adults, a retired couple, or a work at home person. Wants a peaceful home.  One of her owners had passed away, leaving her and mate Harley without a home.

So Gerdy’s gave her retirement from parenthood by having her spayed so she could enjoy the rest of her life free of producing more puppies, as she had 5 litters before she came to us.

She was also vaccinated, dewormed, tested negative for heartworm and is on Revolution preventative in mosquito season.  Roxie has a quiet, dignified, and sweetly appealing personality, a gentle ladylike girl who loves to stroll on her leash in quiet areas to contemplate nature.

In good health, and a BEAUTIFUL dog in every way. Was groomed for the first time in her life—was such a good girl and felt beautiful afterwards!

While awaiting adoption, Roxie suffered an attack of bloat, a life-threatening situation requiring immediate surgery to anchor her stomach in place so it cannot happen again.

A wonderful benefactor came forward and paid the cost of this surgery which helped Roxie and us so much.  Roxie wanted to live and was so grateful to get the help she needed.  She recovered well.

Roxie originally came to us with Harley, who is now in Compassionate foster care where he will be loved and cared for for the rest of his life.

Roxie is looking for her own permanent  and  hopefully adoptive retirement home where she too will be loved for the rest of HER life, preferably as an only dog so she can soak up all the love she missed up to now.

I was born in 2004 and was brought home as a little puppy.  I grew up sweet and affectionate, getting along with other pets including friendly dogs.  I am a fully-trained girl who always had free roam of the house and never got into trouble.

Being well socialized, I exude my charm with both adults and children.  And of course, will roll over for a belly rub at the first opportunity.  I am spayed, and will be revaccinated, and in perfect health.

Like all Westies, I am a natural entertainer, so you will never have a cranky day around me, I will keep you laughing at all my jokes and when you feel just like cuddling, I’m there for you!

Let’s swim through the shoals of life together!

  Fluffy

This treasure of a beautiful and deserving cat is 7 years young, declawed in front and spayed, never been sick nor had a problem.  Given up because of a sudden allergy to her, her owners were heartbroken, and want her to have the best home ever!

Has seen a vet regularly her whole life, she has had excellent care.  Can you help sweet Fluffy mend her broken heart?

  Adopted
  Sparky

A beautiful Golden Retriever, Sparky is 4 years old, very calm and wonderful with children, HOUSETRAINED. A happy girl, she loves car rides and trips to the park.  And of course, LOVES the water as well.

Very affectionate and relaxed, her owner was moving a great distance and could not take her along.  She is spayed, vaccinated bordatella, max 5, rabies, heartworm tested negative, no fleas, dewormed and  ready for her new leash on life! Walks nicely on leash by the way.

  Adopted
  Spot

This white marvel is a boy, a Terrier/Jack Russell mix about 2 years of age and weight about 35 pounds. Loves the groomers!   Needs exercise as is an active boy but is also gentle and loves people.

He is so eager to please and his seemingly excess activity is just trying to please and show you what a playful boy he is. He SO wants a home of his own, he sees other dogs leaving for adoption but no one has chosen him yet, we don't understand why.

OK with most friendly dogs his size, but would best enjoy a home of his own where he could get all the attention. Not recommended with cats as would chase for the fun of it.

Neutered, vaccinated, no fleas, dewormed, and heartworm tested negative, Spot gets his name from the pattern on his ears, very distinctive. Securely fenced property please, and not for condo or apartment as he can bark when excited to see you.

He is a smart boy and can easily be trained -- Spot is looking for his forever home! If exercised before a walk, will not pull on leash.

A real affectionate gentleman!

And what a SILLY young boy I am!  All smiles, all the time!  I am a pure Golden Retriever, 11 months old, 71 pounds,  and SO in love with life!!  Not a mean bone in me, I love everyone I meet—people, other dogs, likely cats (if they are brave!)

I am very strong so I do need obedience training to walk well, but no one ever taught me so I will rely on you as my kind teacher.  You will be so proud of me in obedience class!

I am great in the car, I just LOVE the adventure!  LIFE is wonderful!  And I appreciate it so much more because—can you believe I was going to be euthanized because I was picked up as a stray and my owners refused to pay the pound fee of $60 for my return to them?  They left me to die!

Well, I am safe now, and neutered, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella .  The vets said I was a sweet boy and so good to work with.

I need a home with a fenced yard, secure for me to run in and play ball with you, I will have you fit in no time!!

  Emma

Gentle and kind,  fun loving Emma will win your heart!  Emma is a Lab Mix puppy,  She is about 28 pounds, very sweet natured as well as well-behaved for her age.

She loves meeting other dogs and tries to charm them as well as people.  Very well socialized.  About 4 months old, this little girl was saved from being euthanized at a pound, her only crime was being an unwanted puppy someone dumped there.  Her time was up.

Emma has had her Max 5 and Bordatella vaccines, as well as Revolution, will get Rabies vaccine as well as be spayed under Gerdy’s Rescues when old enough.

Like the character in the Jane Austen novel, our Emma  is wanting to love and be loved  and have everyone around her happy!

  Drako 2

This handsome boy has to be given up because of a premature baby’s lung problems, he is a well-loved dog!  Very good with babies incidentally!

Barks when someone comes to the door to let you know.  Does not guard his food or possessions.  His only fear is of brooms—perhaps an early puppyhood experience!

A Shepherd-Collie Mix, Drako is about 2 years old. Not a mean bone in his body! He will be neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested shortly.

  Doobie (aka Mingus)

A happy 2 year old Basset Hound, this boy is reported by his fosters to be the perfect dog!  Does not get up on the furniture, clean in the house, and HAPPY all the time!  He is very easygoing, and a wonderful temperament!  Voluntarily goes to his crate at night or when the fosters go out.

Gets along wonderfully with theirs and other dogs, would accept a cat no problem!  Does not steal from the counter nor table, unusual for a hound as if it is there, it has been abandoned!  He is a HANDSOME boy, great personality and nature, loves kids, great with adults.

He is neutered, vaccines up to date, dewormed, no fleas, heartworm tested negative.  Back with us again but is ready to be loved again in a preferably Basset home where the needs of the breed are known.  A real hug-bug!!

I was rescued in the cold of winter by kind people, and I’d LOVE a new safe home!  Would you believe I am DECLAWED ON ALL 4 PAWS, and someone tossed me OUT?

I am a very striking  Domestic Shorthair striped tabby boy, about 4  years old—hey!  I have YEARS ahead of me yet!—I purr loudly as soon as you touch me!  I am such a happy chap to be safe!  AND I am VERY gentle as well!

All 11 pounds of me!  I am tested FIV/FelV negative, sterilized, dewormed, no fleas,  they think I have been outside for quite a long time as I have a few scars on my head where other cats have hurt me before.  But I am a survivor, and I am looking for someone special to share the rest of my life with.   Could it be YOU, looking for ME?

I was adopted but returned because the family dogs were too active for me.  So now I can be yours!  I am a BIG boy now, and so HANDSOME!

I might be Norwegian Forest Cat but I can’t promise that!  But I sure am DRAMATIC!  And SO loving! A boy of about 4 1/2 years old, and I was saved from the cold outdoors by a kind young lady who had been feeding me to gain my trust.

The people who took me to the vet said I was wonderful in the car, and SO calm and relaxed at the vets while I was being examined.  I am UNUSUALLY calm, friendly, cuddly and affectionate, a GREAT GREAT cat!

I was very skinny, about 11 pounds when saved, but beautiful long hair and wonderful colours!  I am now neutered, vaccinated, FIV/FeLV tested negative, and have grown into a HUGE boy with much affection!

Enough to say I am a cuddle cat who loves attention and to be held!  My name was given me because I was originally thought to be a girl, but hey, a boy can have HOPE to be adopted too, right?

Here I am, just waiting for you at Gerdy’s Rescues!

  Adopted

  Whiskey

Whiskey is a 15 month old male Wheaten Terrier of 45 pounds whose last female owner couldn’t keep him because of a separation and consequent move.  The ex didn’t want Whiskey.

Whiskey was then given to a loving family, because he was a nice dog and they felt sorry for him spending up to 15 HOURS daily in a crate while the owner was at work! However the new family were devastated when allergy forced them to have to give up Whiskey and they then asked Gerdy’s to take him over.

They tell us that:

“Whiskey is in great physical shape, knows how to sit, stay, down, pulls on a regular leash but not the head halter, goes into his crate if you ask him, runs like the wind, hops like a bunny, good with kids, likes to travel, likes to chew on his Kong, doesn’t go on furniture, doesn’t bark for no reason, behaves when alone in the house not crated (here he’s been left about 8 hours at a time during the week), doesn’t relieve himself when on a leash..”

Whiskey has now been neutered, & vaccinated and is ready for adoption. Take our advice—WHISKEY is good for you!

Compassionate Placement

Here I am, homeless at 9 years of age, but in good physical shape other than being about 10 pounds overweight at 64 pounds.  A Basset Hound, I am a tri-colour needing  some TLC,-- brushing to make my coat shine, walks to trim my couch potato figure, and affection because it is what I crave the most!

I am a neutered male of friendly disposition to other dogs as are most Bassets.   People at my old dog run just LOVED me and were so good to me when I was homeless and helped me a lot, so I come well recommended by my people friends!

I am dewormed, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies, and heartworm tested negative.  I still have good years left in me, so  PLEASE don’t pass me by!  While I can handle ordinary house  stairs just fine, no apartment walk-ups for me please!

I travel well in the car with calmness and will go to sleep on the seat quite happily.  I have no behavior problems and I am not a barker in the home, just at the dog park when playing happily with other nice dogs.

I’d LOVE a home where someone is there during the day because we Bassets love company and like to be where our people are, so if you work from home that would suit me just fine—a bed beside your computer and I would be quite happy to give you any business advice you might seek as well, you could have your personal consultant, BALZAC!

Yes, I AM a diva, as a matter of fact!  A typical Yorkie! Opinionated and Queen of the house! I am 9 pounds of one-year-old girl, spayed and vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5 and Rabies.

Now I don’t like EVERY dog, but I am good with dogs I take a liking to—I DID say I was a diva!  I get along with cats tho and I am crate trained and 80 per cent housetrained—my owner didn’t have much time to train me—but I am smart and with a few lessons I should be ok.

I am very good in the car and love to travel. And as a diva I LOVE to be carried about by adults, not kids please as I could get dropped! I am so cute looking, I think I would look nice in fashionable dog coats don’t you? Not just ONE, darling—divas don’t do ONE of anything!

I can be a bit yappy on occasion, but I  just want to have my say. Then I am fine and quiet again. Typical Yorkie girl!  Yes, I AM adorable looking! Modesty is not my forte but I LOVE to be cuddled and be made a fuss over, and I have a wonderful smile to reward you with. I can pack my Louis Vitton suitcase in a jiffy!

Just call Gerdy and ask for Winnie!

I love to walk on leash and play in the back yard with you.  Gerdy says I have not one mean bone in me, so that makes me a family dog.  I love to run and exercise, but I am also a real charmer and I think I am a lap dog.

Compassionate Placement

These 2 PUGS were adopted out to the same home some time ago, but are again available as their owner has developed respiratory problems  and can no longer keep them. If possible, we’d like the girls to go together as they are so comfortable with each other, but they CAN be separated.

Puggy Bear  (Top)

A very lady-like PUG, she is about 5 years old now and can be a bit timid til she gets to know you, but she warms up fast! Having no food aggression she is a friendly girl, and likes cats, and gets along with friendly dogs. She gets a bit nervous with little kids but when she knows them she is fine—they just have to be gentle with her.

She is calm and well behaved. Weight is nearly 15 pounds, with a probable birth defect -- wobbly right front leg that does not bother her, nor cause her pain. A born lady clown, she loves to give kisses! Wouldn’t hurt to help her lose some weight!  Spayed, vaccinated Max 5, & Rabies, Bordatella.

Ducky (Middle)

This senior  pug girl he has a sore hip and cannot walk too far, climb stairs or jump. She would benefit from injections of cartogen in her hip and Glucosamine. But she makes up for that by getting along great with cats, loves kids, and just LOVES people, and other friendly dogs.! She is the friendliest dog in the world! If you have other pets, feed her FIRST and she will be happy. Loves to cuddle!

Don’t you think a weight-loss program would help that hip?? Can YOU be her dietician? Calm and well behaved, she is nearly 24 pounds and is a true character! Full of love!  Spayed, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, and Bordatella.

Mother an all black Border Collie mix of wonderful temperament, kind and gentle, not overactive, about 45-50 lbs  Father/s  unknown, but a handsome travelling salesman or two!

ALL PUPS WILL BE SPAYED AT APPROPRIATE TIME by Gerdy’s Rescues, dewormed, and vaccinated.

The last 3 pups (Dora, Prada & Cola) of a litter of 7 were taken over by Gerdy:

DORA (the Explorer) — Beige, white & dark face. The largest at 19 ½ pounds.  The leader of the 3 girls, she may be a big dog, and looks after her 2 siblings as big sister.

There were 3 pups, about 6 months old,  found running together in the countryside on one of the coldest days of the year. They had been seen 2 days before that as well by various people.

The 3 all stuck together through their ordeal. Believed dumped, they were nearly frozen when they were discovered and lured into a safe car with a sandwich. They would not have made it past the day, it was so bitterly cold.

They made their way to Gerdy’s Rescues with the help of Gerdy volunteers, and one, LESLIE, is being adopted already. The other 2 are now looking for a home.

THEY ARE ALL sterilized, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies; dewormed, no fleas, vet examined and pronounced healthy:

CINNAMON

A female of about 6 months, shy but gentle and friendly, she was the most scared of the trio, and is now a sweet happy girl.  She is a Shepherd mix maybe with border collie, a beautiful girl  who deserves the best family ever!

Compassionate Placement

I am the DEAREST and MOST GENTLE of dogs.  Sadly, I lived all my life -- 5 years -- in a DOGHOUSE -- OUTSIDE, ALL YEAR AROUND! I was not a watchdog, but just passed day after day never in a home, just tied up to my doghouse.

I had no name. Gerdy’s gave me my name and that of my pal, Rexxy, also tied to his doghouse all that time outside. I have short hair so the cold and arthritis took its toll -- Gerdy is getting me treatments to lessen my pain so that I can enjoy a happy life.

I was going to be finally euthanized by my owner. Gerdy had me neutered, shots, heartworm tested negative, vaccines done—Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, dewormed, no fleas. Whoever gets me has to be prepared to take over treating my arthritis so that I continue relatively pain-free as much as possible.

I never knew the warmth of a home, my owner, an elderly farmer,  thought dogs belonged outside, never in the house!  I am a strapping  112 pounds, and am a BIG boy!  I have a MASSIVE regal  head, and a little tiny beard!  I am a Rottie mix, maybe there is some Giant Schnauzer in there, but I am all mutt and proud of it!

I travelled well in the car to and from the vet, I am a very calm boy, well-mannered, and everyone at the vet’s office loved me!  How wonderful it is to feel WARM and cosy and safe inside, I missed SO MUCH!

Gerdy would like me to find a home with someone with as big a heart as I have—to be loved and cared for must be wonderful—can you take me into YOUR big heart and home?  I will be your gros Jambon forever!

They can't understand it, they really can't!!  I was found on the street in the freezing cold and no one ever claimed me--the sweetest wee white Poodle ever!  So now Gerdy has me under her wing.

I am about 9 years old -- don't let THAT fool you, I am a joyful and alert, loving boy!  I KNOW I have many years ahead of me, and I'd be JUST GREAT with an older couple or older person  who needs a doggie in their life, for instance.

I am neutered, vaccinated, etc -- all set to go to my new forever home.  I LOVE people, and am a gentle boy, nicely behaved. And simply ADORABLE!

One look and you will be mine forever -- I am a lover, not a fighter!

We have 3 TERRIERS that were seized from a backyard breeder, their true adorable terrier nature is in full bloom!

All are 2 1/2 years old and weigh between 11-15 pounds. They are playful, affectionate, and will do well in loving and patient homes with other small dogs or respectful children over 12 years.  These dogs are sterilized, and vaccinated for adoption.

GREAT TEMPERAMENTS!

Logan

He is a real nice boy, very outgoing and loves to play! Jolly and happy, he will win your heart!

  King

A handsome 2 year old pure German Shepherd, King is 69 pounds—a DEAR boy, SWEET NATURED and KIND, calm, highly intelligent.  Hips were vet examined and found to be good.  Health good.  A dramatic colouring of black, beige and rust, King is good natured and dignified.

His vet was very impressed with his behavior and personality.  King had been found abandoned at a park and so was taken to a high kill pound.  But when the finder found out it was indeed a pound and not a real shelter, she waited the 5 required days then rushed down to get him out, even paying the fee to save and free him.

Gerdy’s was contacted to find him a home, which we will.  King has been vaccinated Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies, dewormed, no fleas, neutered, and has been heartworm tested negative.

Now King is all set to help you rule your home KING-dom!

  Marco Polo

This handsome boy is a black and white Domestic Shorthair, good size guy!  Tested FIV/FelV negative, he has been neutered and vaccinated. This abandoned explorer/adventurer showed up begging for food at a Gerdy’s Rescue volunteer’s home when we were doing a garage sale!  Talk about going to the place where he’d get all the help he needed!

We thought he belonged to someone, but no one was looking for him, so we took him in during a rainstorm—after feeding him for over 2 weeks.  We had him neutered and vaccinated as well.  Now our explorer will explore no more, but will become an indoor cat. So instead Mr Marco polo can explore your basement as he seeks China in your home!!

He is a sweetie, gentle and loving.  He had a collar but no ID, his collar said “Bad to the Bone” but that is not true, he is as gentle as they come.  Please adopt Marco as he was smart enough to travel to where Gerdy was having a garage sale—a genius of a cat with a great sense of direction!

Hi folks—well you realize by my name, I will be a BIG boy when I am full grown—but what a GREAT boy in BIG HEARTED personality I am!  I am NICE with small dogs and children, and I come with my crate.  I am 8 months old with more growing to do, being a MASTIFF/CROSS, I am already 75 pounds!

I am neutered and fully vaccinated.  I am quiet and settled for my age, after all we big guys should have dignity.  But I LOVE attention as well as getting and giving affection, you will love the fact I am HOUSETRAINED.  The only thing I ever did bad was to destroy a pair of shoes, but I thought at the time they were nice chew toys, I have not done it again since.

I am looking for a new home because my people got busy and  no longer had enough  time for me.   Here I am on my blankie sound asleep!  If you adopt me, you can call me TINY if you want as long as I can call you Mom or Dad!  And I will share my blankie with you!

  Sergeant Yorkie

But you can call me “Sarge” for short.   You see, I was in a difficult situation,  a  3 ½ pound dog fighting for my life like a good little one-year-old  Miniature Yorkie  soldier should when I  found myself behind the lines, sort of—you see-- here I was holed up in a ditch in my foxhole, away from safety and freezing to death.

It is thought that the “enemy” threw me out of a car, aiming for the big garbage bin, but they missed!  Instead I hit the ditch next to the bin where I was pretty helpless, I was far too small to get out of the snow and slush so hunkered down and waited for reinforcements to arrive just like in the movies!

I shivered in the cold and wet, wondering how to save myself, getting colder and colder.  Then people arrived with a horse trailer and someone happened to look down into the ditch and saw me!!  I was saved!!  They wrapped me up in a horse blanket to warm me and got me to safety.

I worked my way to Gerdy’s with the help of kind people and she took me right to the vet to be examined.  I will be neutered very soon, and have removed at the same time  a few baby teeth that didn’t fall out.   I will get vaccinated, dewormed, I have no fleas.

I am being given a Bravery medal for being a good little soldier and hanging onto my position so well!  I am all heart tho and love everyone,  still trust people and have faith I will be promoted quickly in your home to Commander in Chief—a status I will share with you with great pleasure!

  Arctic

A strikingly handsome male Siberian Husky no more than about 8 months old and weighing 34 pounds, Arctic is HOUSETRAINED, he goes to the patio door to signal he has to go out.  Very OBEDIENT, he gives the paw and knows the SIT command.

This Gentle, Kind and Affectionate boy is quiet and is not a barker, and does he love car rides!!  He is SO good in the car!  Loving to play fetch, he also loves snow and likes water—even to the point of jumping into the shower to keep you company if he has the chance!

Arctic was bought as a birthday present for an unsuspecting person who turned out to be very allergic, and he could not be kept, so the Foundation For The Protection of Animals was contacted to help and called Gerdy to see if she could take him into Gerdy’s Rescues.

Arctic is a GREAT family dog, needs training to walk perfectly but is not hard to walk “as is”, but we advise all dogs learn  gentle obedience training.  He is fully trusting. A SUPER dog!

Hi Folks—I am a gorgeous (if I say so myself!) mix of GOLDEN LAB and GOLDEN RETRIEVER.  I am extremely energetic and playful. A good hearted girl who is young, a little over a year old.  I require lots of exercise outside, as I like to jump a lot.  How about training me for Agility!!!  I need structure in my life!

I was born November 10, 2009 and I am a nice size, about 45 pounds.  I was adopted from a shelter at 5 months old but due to changes in my home, I am looking for a new family who will love and train me to be a good doggy citizen.  I am very intelligent and am a fast learner!!

Almost perfectly housetrained, I have spent a lot of time with other dogs, namely puppies, and I am very gentle with them,  I love people.  Spayed and up to date with my vaccines and heartworm tested negative.

I PROMISE you that I will be a very loving pet and companion and all I need is from you is  to be a calm, patient, loving and warm owner for me—I WANT  to be trained  under loving guidance so I can be the well behaved doggie girl you will love forever.

Look at me, I have one ear flipped back, am I not a coquette??

What a dear little character!!  Big bat ears, rather coarse longer hair, we think he is a Chihuahua mixed with a terrier, he is about 8 ½ pounds, a dear little boy, and not in the least temperamental or snappy, and definitely not a biter!

This guy is nicely playful, cheerful, social and friendly. loves to be cuddled and gives kisses and is not a barker in the foster home! With all that, we cannot imagine why he was deposited into an unlocked garage of a house, in bitter cold weather for the resident to find!

He made his way to Gerdy and has been neutered, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, bordatella, vet checked, dewormed, no fleas.  Estimated about 1 year old by the vet, he loves to walk on leash—not very far tho as too cold out!  Very good in the car, he loves meeting people and charming them quickly.

Has been clean in the foster home. An absolute DELIGHT to have around, he loves getting and giving affection, and deserves a very loving FOREVER home!

  Danny Boy

Danny Boy, Josh, Bam Bam and Wendy are all from the same litter. One parent was a St Bernard but we don’t know the breed of the other. They are all likely to become larger dogs.

The 4 of them were discovered early one morning abandoned loose outside in bitter cold, by staff as they arrived at a vet clinic -- they stayed together because they were too frightened and cold to roam.

They were taken into the warmth, where Gerdy saw them later.  Now they are in Gerdy’s Rescues. They are said by the vet to be 4 months old, and in good health.

They will be sterilized at the proper time by Gerdy’s as well as have their puppy vaccines. Very well mentally adjusted, healthy, sociable.

Danny Boy

The biggest of all, you can see the Saint Bernard in him, he is 35 pounds.   Friendly, well adjusted & happy, a goof of loveable proportions, Danny Boy is full of affection.  Will likely be the biggest when grown.  Will be a handsome dog in adulthood!

The smallest boy at 32 pounds.  Darker coat than Bam Bam, his almost twin, has a shorter coat than Danny Boy and Wendy.  Wonderful dark facemask on the dearest face imaginable!

Josh is easy going and easy to please, curious, and fun-loving.  A good lad, he will make a devoted family pet!

The only girl!  And WHAT A GIRLY-GIRL she is!  At 28 pounds, she is the smallest and daintiest, a lovely rust colour, wavy coat, sweet little face—we don’t think she will be as large as the others, she may be the runt of the litter, but what a DOLL!

Very sweetly clingy, she looks to her big brothers for guidance if in doubt.  But LOVES affection and is going to be a loving dog.

This gentle 2 year-old  girl is a mix of dignified Lab/Doberman — she is very gentle and loving, beautiful  sculptured face full of grace with kind eyes. Not a mean bone, this beauty of 46 pounds, is a nice size for a family dog.

HOUSETRAINED, she gets along well with other dogs as well as people.  Travels well in the car and good at the vets.  Somewhat trained, she is not difficult to walk, she listens. Simone was going to be euthanized at a pound, her time was up when Gerdy got her instead and saved her life.

Simone is spayed, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies, no fleas, dewormed.  This streamlined beauty looks for a forever home with gentle people who will treasure her kindness.

  Shane

This dear &  Gentle  Boxer boy of  about  2  years old , is a brindle and white real SWEET guy!  Pure Boxer of a nice size to care for.   His stub of a tail never stops wagging.  He has a wonderful nature and is super friendly, all he wants in life is a forever home of his own.

You see, Shane was fated to be euthanized at a pound, as unclaimed.  He had been abandoned in a resort  motel room, where the staff found him and called the pound to come get him.

He was very skinny from starvation when we got him but is starting to gain weight with good food and care, his coat now is shiny and so are his happy eyes,-- he has such a friendly “help me” face!  We cannot understand why he was left behind, he is such a friendly boy, he deserved more than that treatment.

We have given him a full vet workup and he is good to go. Now sterilized, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, he is heartworm tested negative, dewormed, no fleas.  Shane is a WONDERFUL boy and will make someone a great life-long companion.

  Crystal

This little Shih Tzu girl is recovering well from surgery to remove an eye. She was found wandering in the street.  Her owners had never bothered to treat repeated eye infections until the eye was so damaged it had to be removed. Instead she was dumped out into the cold to try to survive.

Crystal is about 2 1/2 years old, white with beige markings and has a DELIGHTFUL girly personality!  She LOVES people and adores to be just held lovingly. And she loves to go for walks too, she is also very social and trusting.  She is good so far with other friendly dogs and even cats!

Spayed with an umbilical hernia removed at the same time, vaccinated, etc--this sweet pea is ready for her forever home with her flirty one-eyed wink!  Not even losing an eye and being abandoned outside has dampened this brave girl's spirit. Crystal is a real GEM of a dog!
