  Ivy

Is the daughter of Holly and under 2 years old. She is friendly, and is a Tortoiseshell like her mum, Holly. Ivy’s mum found a home, but Ivy is still patiently waiting.

Ivy is playful, but not in your face, she has dignity! She and her mum were abandoned.  Ivy is a real dear not a big cuddler, tortoiseshells are more independent and enjoy being around people as equals!  She is very smart and loves toys on a stick in interactive play.

She gets along with other cats and dogs in her foster home.  She loves to investigate running water in the sink, her special hobby!!  Where there is water running, there is Ivy!

Vaccinated, FIV/FelV tested negative, spayed, dewormed—and ready to be in her own home!  This Ivy will not cling to you but will be devoted nevertheless—who knows, she is a CAT, and cats surprise us with changes of mind!

Which is Minou?  Did I fool you with my toy look-alike? Would you believe I am 12 years old—in good health at that!  I am very playful, affectionate and completely housetrained.

I LOVE to be brushed and cuddled and my purr when you give me your attention—it’s loud! And I can entertain myself when you are busy as well.  My two favourite things are sleeping and keeping my person company.  The sad part for me is that is why I am being given up, my dear owner is dying.   Right now I am being looked after by friends, but they can’t keep me because of asthma.

I will need a new home for the rest of my days, and I plan on being around  for a long time!  I’d like to be the only cat though; but I am used to a dog—I was raised with a retired seeing-eye dog.   I am not really great with my own species, I prefer people and dogs!

I am an indoor cat, neutered, who has had all my shots.  No wee kids please, but I would be ok with respectful older kids or teens who treated me gently. Dark grey and white Domestic  Shorthair, I will come with food, toys and bed.  A strictly indoor cat, that is how I got to be 12 and I want to try for 20!

Can we grow old gracefully together?   I am young at heart and would be ever so grateful to be your closest confidant and friend.

Please give me a chance!

I am a sweet German Shepherd Mix girl, about 6 months old and 47 pounds.  I was surrendered to a pound because my people said it cost too much money to feed me, so they were prepared for me to die by euthanasia.  No one was interested in me, so Gerdy took me under her wing along with Maverick.

Gerdy found me to be the DEAREST girl, so gentle and loving.  In the car I lay on the floor with my head resting in the space between the 2 front seats, just hoping for a head scratch, and I went to sleep, -- so I travel well by car as does Maverick, -- he sat on the back seat looking out the window like a king.

I am a quiet lady dog, will make a wonderful family dog, I just need a brushup on my housetraining as I was kept outside, but I am smart and will learn in no time with your loving guidance.  I like other nice dogs as well as people, I am untried with cats. Playful, I love my leash walks.

I am spayed, vaccinated Bordatella, Rabies, Max 5, dewormed, no fleas—all set to go, the vets say I am very gentle. I am a good puppy, not TOO active, and I will love you all my life, I promise.  There is not a mean bone in me.

  Neil

Very easy-going, loving, gentle beyond belief, and obedient—Neil is a senior dog, a Golden Lab Mix who was rescued from a pound and given another chance at life before he could be euthanized.  Neil had 2 fist-size lipomas (fatty deposits) removed from his chest, and was sterilized, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, and dewormed.  A friendly boy, he looks to have a home maybe with a retired couple or single, where he could just be a quiet pal to someone, Neil is a highly unusual boy in that he is super calm and relaxed in nature, calm happy eyes.  Not ready for retirement, Neil hopes for new challenges to keep him young at heart!

Update:

Neil was ADOPTED and has found a volunteer job!  He works daily at Sunrise on St Jean Boulevard in Dollard Des Ormeaux, QC bringing cheer to the elderly in their care.  He makes the rounds and accepts the affections of the elderly with grace, and restores smiles to faces that need the cheer of a dear dog to pet.  Or just look at.  Neil is very patient and kind, born to do this work, he has found his calling late in life for which he is very happy.  A dog saved, who is giving back to people needing to stroke a dog who makes them smile, and brighten their days.

Compassionate Placement

I have a big name—and VERY distinguished—but I am not a big cat.  I am an Orange Tabby of about 10 pounds, with wonderful green eyes, a Domestic Shorthair of 7-8 years.

My elderly owners are moving to a place where cats are not allowed, and are so sad to give me up, but had no choice.  So Gerdy will find a new home for me. I am a very friendly cat with sometimes an independent nature, but I would love to sit in your lap for a cuddle.  I would like to be an only cat if possible as I am a bit scared right now, but I might do well with another friendly cat or nice dog.  I am an indoor-only cat.

I am neutered, vaccinated, and dewormed. I was very much loved, and miss not having a home of my own again.  Can you make room for a gentleman like me in your busy life?  I don’t take up much space and you will never regret your decision!  This is your opportunity to have Tigi Rufus Somerled share your home!

Comments from his Foster:

"Tigi is a friendly boy with a fun-loving nature and playfulness that belies his age. At 9 years young, he is much more playful than his considerably younger cat-mates. Although he does "tolerate" the other felines in the house, he would much prefer to be his own boss, where his human(s) can truly appreciate his great sense of feline humor. He doesn't mind his large doggie companion but he can be quite bossy around smaller dogs.

Playing with cat toys and eating are Tigi's favourite past times, although he definitely enjoys being petted a good "skritch". Tigi is looking for a new castle where he can be the resident King and be regally treated, as he so richly deserves."

We have 3 TERRIERS that were seized from a backyard breeder, their true adorable terrier nature is in full bloom!

All are 2 1/2 years old and weigh between 11-15 pounds.  They are playful, affectionate, and will do well in loving and patient homes with other small dogs or respectful children over 12 years.  These dogs are sterilized, and vaccinated for adoption.

GREAT TEMPERAMENTS!

Alisha

A bit shy but gaining confidence by the minute. A dear soul who loves to be cuddled and have affection.

  Daisy

This beautiful, gentle 1 year old semi long haired Calico is looking for a home.  As so many that are tossed out during and before moving season, Daisy was brought to the shelter, thin, starving and worn out.  Due to her condition, Gerdy took her in to save her life.  With compassion, love and the proper vet attention, Daisy has proven herself a gentle warrior.

She defeated all odds and has flourished into a happy, healthy loving girl who wants nothing more than to curl up on your lap and give you hours of affection and admiration.  Daisy is very maternal and is currently being fostered with Esmee who is deaf and blind.  She stays very close to Esmee, monitoring her movement and gently guiding her and providing comfort and support. She cleans her, cares for her and is her gentle eyes and ears.

Daisy also gets along very well with dogs as she has no malice nor fear.  She is a perfect cat, who is looking to share her life with a family that will ensure that she will never goes hungry, never be left alone to fend for herself, and never again to find herself without companionship.

Daisy has been de-wormed, de-fleed (just in case), fully vaccinated, spayed and is FIV and leukemia tested negative.  She is ready purr her way into your heart.

Update:

Our foster for Esmee and Daisy reports that Daisy has taken the seeing-eye cat role on behalf of Esmee. By the way, Esmee can now see and hear a bit according to her foster mom, she gets around very well.

Could some angel take BOTH girls together we hope!! They have really bonded and is so sweet to see Daisy groom Esmee like a kitten, they curl up together as well.   The rewards to the person who does this is in seeing the girls facing life together and making the most of everything they have—each other.

Esmee has had bad luck.  She had been adopted from the SPCA and had been taken back for her spay surgery.  But something went wrong, she reacted badly to the anaesthetic given and died on the table, was revived, but in the process this sweet girl lost both her sight and her hearing.

Gerdy’s took her over, convinced that a human angel out there will give this girl a loving home, she must be the only pet in the family so she can feel confident moving about.  Inside only of course!  She is only 11 months old and is a little girl at 7 pounds, domestic shorthair black tabby with white.

She has since been spayed by our vet, vaccinated, dewormed, tests negative for FIV/FelV.  This gal is remarkable, she finds her way about with no problem, and will scent your presence—you’d almost never know she his blind & deaf.  WHAT A SPIRIT!

We desperately need someone to be her angel on earth and to give her a home, she fought to live, and deserves to have all the lives she can get!

A Boxer and a Rottweiler became Baby’s proud parents on July 24, 2005.  Baby was adopted by a mother who had to give her up when she was not allowed dogs at her new home.

So now, Baby is looking for a home where she will be loved forever.  She is a wonderful dog with a great disposition.  She’s friendly and easy to get along with.  She’s good with other dogs and with children and she steers clear of cats!

Could you be Baby’s next proud parent and love her for being such a good girl?  She sure deserves it!  Baby has all the makings of a great friend and loyal companion.

All shots up to date, spayed and heartworm tested negative.

Little Daisy at 4 pounds, is a mix of Yorkie  and Chihuahua, a so called “designer dog”  they now breed and  call a Chorkie. But Daisy had a big problem because Daisy was born with a large  inguinal hernia and has gone without desperately needed surgery. She is now about 6 months old, -- Gerdy  has arranged for her to have it shortly, at the same time she will be spayed.

Daisy is a DEAR girl, not the least snappy and very trusting, a WONDERFUL personality.  She is vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, and Bordatella.  She accepts the crate and uses pee- pee pads at her foster home.  She loves the world and everything in it, and loves to curl up on a lap for tv watching together.

A gentle wee angel,  Daisy was saved from a back yard breeder and now looks forward to happier days.

VERY affectionate and loving, an ideal life companion, he will listen to your problems, and triumphs, and will never be disappointed in you.  Very devoted cat, he needs affection.

FIV/FelV tested negative, vaccinated, dewormed, neutered — he will give you attention to the MAXimum!

This DEAR Bichon Frise/ Lhasa Apso mix is about 2 years old, and weighs about 15 pounds.  He was found and unclaimed as a stray with an injured and infected eye, which had to be removed.

He has adjusted  well and looks at you with a jolly permanent wink—so cute!  Likes people, very sociable and is good with other friendly dogs.  Housetrained. Billy Jack is nicely playful and has a good nature.

Neutered, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated, dewormed--  This is a very nice boy!

A Captain Jack Sparrow of dogs, this little pirate will only steal your heart!

  Jackster

Howdy-do!!  I am a pure white Bichon Frise, about 4 years old, in good health and nicely playful. I am a social little boy, good with other dogs, but I especially like nice children! I sleep with a cat in my foster home, so that says a lot about my nature.

I am not a chewer nor have separation anxiety, so can be left in a home without being crated (which I hate!) I don’t like the postman bothering you, so I bark for him to go away, and he does after he delivers the mail! So I am a good watchdog, and only bark for a good reason.  If you tell me that’s enough, I will stop.

I am very good in the car and I walk well on leash. My owner works long hours and wanted me to have a home where I’d spend less time all alone. Neutered, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies. I am very jolly and affectionate with not a mean bone in me. You need The Jackster’s smiling face and lamb-like look in your life, admit it! Call Gerdy!

  Taco

At 4 pounds, wee Taco had been passed down through a couple of homes and really needs a permanent home of his own.  Taco has had many of his teeth removed in spite of being a young dog, they were pretty rotten.

Neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, no fleas.   Now Taco is a happy and pain-free little guy.  He loves his little outfits that keep his wee body comfortable and warm.  But Taco should not be outside on his own, ever, especially in the cold.

Taco is a Chihuahua, loves to be held and carried gently.  NOT A DOG FOR SMALL CHILDREN, he could get dropped and hurt.  He is needing someone who will make him feel secure once again, someone with Chi experience would be great.  His little ego was very hurt when he was given up by his person, and now he is doing a lot better in confidence.

Taco has a lot of love in him to give to someone that he will adore in a short time of getting used to and trusting.  Sweet tiny face and tiny legs—this is a boy whose huge eyes just beg  appealingly for attention.

Are you the right person for tiny Taco?

I am a VERY sweet one-year-old Yorkie boy, 9 pounds of happiness and love. I am neutered, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5 and Rabies.   I like other nice dogs, kids, and am friendly with strangers.  Also good with cats!

Crate trained, but I need a bit of extra attention to perfect housetraining—I am a work in progress.  My previous owner worked long hours and so didn’t have really enough time for my needs to be met, that is why I am looking for a new forever home.

I am good in the car, you likely could take me to work with my crate, I am nice and quiet.  I walk well on leash as well.  Very social, I love being picked up and lovied, I soak up affection like a sponge!

I was named after Stuart Little, the mouse in storybooks—which is flattering because we share the same generous and gentle nature.

  Watson

Watson is a delightful male tricoloured Basset Hound of about 3 years old and 46 pounds, looking for a forever home.  A sweet natured boy, Watson likes and gets along with other dogs and likely would accept a cat.

Very friendly in typical Basset manner, he would make a great family dog, or companion to another dog. Watson is in good health with no known health problems, can run like the wind when at play in the fenced back yard, and LOVES to curl up with you to watch tv or just laze about in your company.

Loves his walks on leash, and travels well in the car, settling down to nap in short order.  Watson had been adopted from a gassing pound to save his life, but 3 dogs in the household proved too many, so he came to Gerdy to place once more—forever!

Watson is a real gentleman dog, and has an extremely handsome face and appealing eyes.  Very good in the house. Neutered, dewormed, no fleas, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies.

I am a 7 year old Husky boy, but I have the wisdom of MATURITY!  I am KIND, GOOD WITH  KIDS and CATS, and OTHER DOGS, CALM and Zen-like, I can be left alone without tearing the place apart.  I am also very HANDSOME in person, very distinguished.  I walk well on leash and travel well in the car.

Gerdy’s got me out of a kill pound on my last day there,  I was to be euthanized the next morning as no one came in to claim me, I was brought there as a stray.

The people at Gerdy’s are amazed at what a WONDERFUL dog I am, quiet, and respectful.  My foster Kim says  how great I am after such an unnerving experience!  I am 44 pounds—not a big dog really—just a nice size.

I am neutered, vaccinated Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies, and tested negative for heartworm, dewormed, and defleaed in case!  All set to go.

Can this Irish Rover be YOUR forever dog?

  Lucy

This poor girl was rescued from a busy highway by a Good Samaritan driver coming back from New Brunswick.  He and several others in cars stopped and took 4 hours to rescue her from the danger of getting hit as she was very panicked and afraid.

It was very apparent this girl was dumped on the highway in the cold to die or be run over.  A disposable dog. She was VERY skinny.  She made her way to Gerdy’s and has been spayed, given her shots etc and is now ready for a new home.

She seems to be a German Shepherd Mix, has big bat ears, and seems to be about 5 years old.  She weighs about 35 pounds and is, of course, full grown.   She was named Lucy, a name as gentle as she, by the man who saved her but was unable to keep because he is a serviceman who will be stationed away shortly.

Would YOU like to LOVE LUCY as her forever person?

Look at me—my coat all matted and filled with dried manure—quite a group of wonderful and caring  people helped me get to the safety of  Gerdy’s Rescues!

You see, I was going to be shot, I guess the farmer thought me useless-- after all, I am 5 years old!  But first the farmer tried  unsuccessfully to strangle me with a heavy chain!   I spent all my 5 years there, outside as a farm dog.  In fact when I was rescued I arrived with dried manure in my ear fur and caught in my leg feathers, they got me out so fast!    I had never had a bath in my life!

But I loved my first bath! At 80 pounds, I was undernourished. I am apparently a mix of Newfoundland and Bernese. Now neutered, I    have been vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, and Rabies, treated for fleas in case, and dewormed, heartworm tested negative.

I am a jolly boy, so delighted to be shown affection. Life is hard for a dog kept outdoors in all weathers, I finally have the joy of looking forward to life on the inside as a loved and cherished family member.  I like other animals, and everyone I meet.  I tend to take your hand in my mouth but that is just to take and show you something that interests me!  I am very gentle.

  Adopted
  Bernie

BERNIE, a 2 1/2 year old Bernese Mountain Dog, swallowed a  little sock and needed immediate lifesaving surgery, he lost part of his colon, but was a VERY lucky boy.  We are inviting applications for him, preferably from people familiar with the breed.  He is doing VERY WELL now, all recovered!

Bernie is a WONDERFUL “Berner” but has a penchant for kiddies socks, so he will be placed into a home with NO CHILDREN as clothing left on the floor by youngsters is too tempting! He LOVES kids but clothing is not good for the tummy.  We suggest he be crated if his new people are not home, just in case.

He should outgrow this but needs to learn to chew  on safe dog toys instead.  Lots of exercise and attention will help as well, Bernie is a great dog, and has another chance at life.  He  loves people, and other dogs and cats.  Neutered, vaccines up to date.

This playful good natured boy deserves a home!

  Pokey

Our Pokey Little Puppy is a darling 7 month old Cocker Spaniel Mix female.  At 26 pounds, she is already a beauty!  Her time was up at the pound, she had not been claimed so was going to be euthanized.  A soft mouth in play, a wonderful nature for a good family dog.

Pokey is playful, interested in people and other friendly dogs, travels well in the car, loves walks on leash—a good all around dog!  We don’t know what she is mixed with but she is a real beauty!

Pokey is spayed, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, dewormed , no fleas.  Completely trusting, her experience being abandoned in the freezing cold has not changed her wonderful personality or trust in people.

This gentle soul will bring a lifetime of affection!

  Adopted
  Archie

Archie is 4 months old and 34 pounds, we suspect he is a mix of Golden Retriever and German Shepherd.  He was an unwanted puppy turned over to a pound, and his time was up, he was to be euthanized.

A sweetheart of a pup, Archie loves to be cuddled and played with.  Very jolly and well balanced mentally, a delight!   He is very smart and observant, likes other friendly dogs, cats could likely train him to respect them!  Big paws!  If he grows into them will be a big boy!

Archie will be neutered under Gerdy’s Rescues when old enough, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies, and dewormed.  Archie is a real comic who loves attention!

  Adopted
  Yogi

Likely a mix of English Setter and Golden Retriever, this pale blond handsome boy had been taken by a pound as a stray and his time was up when Gerdy got him and 2 others to safety.

At 38 pounds so far, this 8-9 month old darling is friendly with other dogs, likely would accept a cat. Very cheerful, should be a good family dog—very loving and innocent.  Not a mean bone!  Has the Golden nature for sure.  Not a large build, just right!

He is neutered, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella; dewormed, no fleas.  Yogi loves the world and everything in it.  Good in the car.  Loves to go for walks and to play.  A real Yogi Bear personality!

  Adopted
  Honey

This sweet small-built 3 year old  Basset girl was dropped off at a shelter because her owner was moving and no dogs were allowed in the new apartment building.

Honey is housetrained, and was alone 10 hours of the day.  However Bassets really  need the company of their people, so we’d like to find her a home where she’d have more family time than that.  She is an adorable tri-colour, jolly typical Basset disposition, cheerful and loving—a great family dog is the Basset!

Needs a securely fenced in yard as would follow her nose if she got loose.  Spayed, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies. Dewormed, no fleas, Heartworm tested negative.  There is no dog more affectionate than the Basset.  Most get along with other dogs and cats and love gentle children.

This is the dog to cuddle with watching tv, enjoys a good leash walk, and if allowed, will sleep on your bed!  Honey is a dear girl who just wants love for the rest of her life.

OH I am SO glad to get in from the cold, all I want to do is SLEEP in the warmth!!  I am a very laid-back boy who wanted to LIVE—so I sat on a doorstep in freezing weather  and CRIED until I was brought inside, but I couldn’t stay as there were allergies in the family.  Oh I was SO cold!

I made my way to Gerdy’s and as I was vetted I was discovered to be FIV POSITIVE. My vet says I am healthy, it is best I am in a family with no other cats, but I’d do fine with a nice dog.

I am about 2 years old and am a Domestic Shorthair, about 9 ½ pounds of gorgeous boy, orange tabby with white: If you have an FIV cat I would be a great companion.

I am neutered, vaccinated and dewormed, all set to go. Gerdy just wants me to have a loving INDOOR ONLY home, I am very gentle and love to be cuddled.

Everyone says I am a HANDSOME guy. PLEASE consider taking a needy guy like me!

  Ti-Pou

COURTESY LISTING

Ti-Pou is a cute little girl and a more fitting name would be Ti-Belle! She is an adorable Yorkshire/Bichon, two years old, -- owner abandoned because she thought it was too much trouble to train her, and thought that being a small dog, meant that she didn't need to exercise her or socialize her with other dogs.

Ti-pou is now trained to pee and poo on a pad in her crate because she is too delicate to being taken out in the winter—while you’re at work she can stay in her crate which must be large enough for a pee pad—and she won’t whine while you are gone.  She will sleep through the night in her crate, a very easy girl.

Spayed, Ti-Pou has all her shots up to date, including heartworm preventative.    She  loves to chase the ball, bring it back and do it all over again, especially with other dogs!... she would do well with a family who has already another small dog, but she is not afraid of bigger dogs. Doesn't seem to have any problems with that cats either.

All she need is a forever home that understands that being small doesn't mean that all she wants to do is sit on your lap but wants to play and run too!  She is active.

Will you be Ti-Pou's forever home?

  Sophie

At 53 pounds, Sophie is a gorgeous girl!  Looking like a Bernese, she seems to be part Border Collie but just a bit!   She is 8 months old so is unlikely to be huge like a Berner, we call her “just right”!

Sophie is a bit nervous getting in a car, but is very good once inside and driving along, she lays down to sleep.  Sophie was going to be euthanized at a pound as she was no longer wanted by her owner so was brought there to get rid of her.

Sophie is good with other friendly dogs and likely would accept a cat.  A good candidate as a family dog as she has such a  kind and gentle nature and is playful, and smart!  This is a girl who would do well in agility.  She is eager to learn and observant.

Absolutely a stunning girl, Sophie is spayed, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, dewormed, no fleas.  Sophie is ready for YOU and a forever home, and her suitcase is already packed to go!

A “designer” dog, Whiskey is a PUGGLE—Pug and Beagle mix. 2 year old Whiskey was going to be euthanized -- traded in on a newer model, a pup,  in his owner’s life,-- but his earth angel appeared and got him into Gerdy’s Rescues instead!

A neutered male. Whiskey is a bit overweight at 38 pounds!  But what a jolly fellow, playful, kind, and can have the dignity of the pug at the same time!  Ideal smaller family dog or companion to anyone.

He has a face full of wrinkles, just too cute & lovable! Great nature, calm & loving. HOUSETRAINED.  Loves to walk on leash.  Very social and friendly.

Vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies, dewormed, no fleas, heartworm tested negative.  Whiskey loves the car and travels well.  THIS Whiskey  will keep for years, and become more mellow with age!

But here I am, a handsome orange tabby  survivor all set to sleep on your WARM bed, or curl up on a WARM chair, in a WARM  room—I never want to feel cold again so please make me an INSIDE ONLY cat!

I will repay you constantly with devotion and affection as we orange tabbies are known for being lovers, not fighters!

I am a Domestic Shorthair and I can purr like a luxury motorboat! Neutered, I am vaccinated, dewormed, and FIV/FeLV tested negative.

You will never regret adopting Rouli-boy, I will reward you with love all my WARM life!! Please give me a forever home!

  Casey

One of three very lucky dogs we saved from eurhanasia at a pound, CASEY  is a Husky Mix , one year old, weight 50 pounds.  Casey is VERY loving, will be a great family dog, not a mean bone.  He just wants affection, everyone at Gerdy’s and the vet’s love him!

A handsome boy, he was found wandering, was picked up by the pound, unclaimed—and had run out of his time there.  Playful with introspective moments when he just soaks up the love given him in his Zen moments, Casey will become a devoted member of your family.

All Huskeys need a well fenced yard as they can wander if left  loose.  Casey has been vet examined, vaccines given—bordatella, Max 5, Rabies, dewormed, no fleas , heartworm tested negative, and will be neutered shortly.

Casey is a smart boy, and agility is a possibility for him—how about Baseball?  At the bat?  THIS Casey will not strike OUT!

  Adopted
  Mowgli

No more than 2 years old at the most, Mowgli was at the pound awaiting euthanasia the next day—he had run out of time and no one had claimed him after he was found wandering.  So Gerdy’s took him and Tinker into our care.  Mowgli is a very gentle boy, sociable, and good with other dogs.

All 28 pounds of him is filled with affection—he is very good natured.  Mowgli will be neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and heartworm tested.  He travels well in the car and is a very smart dog, and interested in all around him.

Possessing a beautifully wavy rusty- brown coat, Mowgli is a very handsome American Cocker Spaniel who loves to cuddle with people, and enjoys their presence.  Not a mean bone, this boy looks forward to wonderful walks with his new family, and having a forever home of his own, playing happily with people who love him!

  Adopted
  Odie

Joyful and sweet little ODIE is about 19 pounds of love and affection, loves to give wee kisses, and to be cuddled.  Obie is 5 years old and is a Pomeranian Mix. Outgoing and friendly, not a mean bone!

Odie’s elderly owner has gone into the hospital and will not be coming home, so Gerdy will help Odie get a new and loving home.  Perky and charming, Odie is a little gentleman, neutered, vaccinated Bordatella, Max 5, and Rabies.  This fluffy boy is a real charmer!

  Adopted
  Jimmy

A young ShihTzu, Jimmy is a wonderful boy who can cheer up the worst of days with his big grin and lively manner.  You cannot be in a bad mood around Jimmy. He won’t allow it.  He loves his walks, and to curl up and cuddle as well.

Very good in the car, he loves to travel on a lap where he can nap if he feels like it, he is very interested in looking out the window.  A great appetite, he is not a picky eater and enjoys all life has to offer.  Playful and kind, not a mean bone.  Jimmy is a dog in a lifetime kinda guy!

Neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, dewormed, flea free, Jimmy is ready to go to his forever home!

  Adopted
  Molly

Delightful little Molly is a sweet-natured and playful tri-coloured Basset Hound.  This loving dog enjoys sitting on laps (even if bigger than your average lap dog!) and chewing on her favourite toys. And of course the Basset favourite occupation -- taking long walks on leash.

It might take her awhile to get used to cats (and some dogs) but she's never met a person she didn't greet enthusiastically with affection!

At 3 1/2 years old this beauty is being given up due to life changes that have nothing to do with her, we will help her find her new forever home.

A Basset-familiar family would be preferred, and of course as she is a Hound, a securely fenced yard to play in is essential, because Bassets have such a strong sense of smell they would follow a scent and not look back!

A home with someone home during the day for company is ideal for a Basset, as they are very social and love to be around their humans!

Good Golly, Miss Molly -- Bassets ROCK!

I spent the whole summer on a golf course, wandering about, hoping some nice golfer would take me home—but it never happened!  There I was, day in, day out, offering to caddy for a home, but no one took me up on my offer.

Now listen—I REALLY need help!  Someone did finally rescue me but cannot keep me and is trying to find me a place of my own, I need all the help I can get!  I now have a thing about golfers!  You guys have a little white mouse that I am very interested in, and I could catch it for you, np problem!  Then you could go home and relax!

I am very friendly & sociable, I love people (especially golfers!) was taken to the vet by my rescuers and am in good health, neutered, 9 pounds of prime perfect cat, and have had all my shots.  I eat both hard & soft food.  Someone had dumped me on that golf course because they didn’t want me, and that is where I learned to appreciate the game of golf.

Now I ask you—if you love golf, can you spread some of that love around for me too?  I promise—with me you will get a birdie for sure!!

Contact info given through Gerdy’s Rescues on request

We'd like to introduce you to this little family of three! Mama is called AUTUMN, male little grey puss is called KELSEY and our male carrot top is called PERCY!

Sometime, late summer, this little mother of three (one is still missing) was dropped off on our country road because she was pregnant!  Autumn is pretty young herself.

Probably not much more than a year old, very friendly, comes when called and follows us!  She is totally loving with people!  And grateful to be safe inside with her little family!

She will be spayed after completing the nursing of her kittens. Resourceful gal that she is, she hunkered down in a neighbour's woodshed to give birth to her little family of three.  Soon thereafter, for  unknown reasons, she moved her troop beneath a cottage some four doors down and there proceeded to nurse and care for her little babes. The kittens are now about 2 ½ months old. Will be dewormed and have their kitten vaccines.

The family is presently in foster care but as there already are family pets (4) in that home, the situation cannot remain this way for very long.  Need foster home or loving permanent home for one, two or three!

  Destiny

I want to be YOUR Destiny!  I am under a year old, 33 pounds so far, a little and sweet-natured CALM Siberian Husky.

I love other friendly dogs, might be ok with friendly cats too. Would be good with gentle kids, or a wonderful dog for a single person or couple.

Not hard to walk, I am eager to please and VERY intelligent!  I will be easy to train and am quiet, not a barker.  But I will need a securely fenced yard as we husky’s will run off if we have a chance to explore the neighbourhood and beyond, we can be runners! I LOVE affection and return it as well.

I will lay down near you, or by your side, a devoted girl.  I am just finishing a heat then I will be spayed by Gerdy’s. I have been vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, dewormed, no fleas and heartworm tested negative.

I was in a pound awaiting euthanasia, because I was brought there reported as a stray, but it is very likely I was a pet who started my heat and they didn’t want to deal with that so abandoned me.

My time was running out and Gerdy took me in and saved me --- for YOU!

  Puff

Found up north by a woman, shivering in the rain frantically scratching on the door of an abandoned cabin, this sweet mix of Shih-Tsu/Lhasa Apso is about 5 years old.

She tried to find his owner but no success.  So finally took him to the pound where he went unclaimed. Looks like he was dumped.  A Gerdy’s volunteer brought him back as he was about to be euthanized to make space for others.

At the time he had a terrible cold from getting chilled but is fine now.  Very affectionate, seems to accept other bigger dogs around him in his foster home, and is about 10 pounds in weight.  LOVES MEN!  Has no signs of abuse, loves to be cuddled and hugged.

A sleep-in-the-bed-with-you kind of dog!  Puff has a natural sense of humour  Loving and playful, he loves nice kids and plays well with other dogs, even big ones!

HOUSETRAINED, he will be neutered and vaccinated by Gerdy’s Rescues.  Fun dog to have and a GREAT FAMILY DOG!  Untried with cats, but likely to be accepting.  Our little PUFF awaits in eager anticipation his new, forever home!

  McCloud

Special Home Sought by Gerdy

A reasonable distance from St Lazare, QC as he has to be near his vet for treatment!

McCloud was left behind in a move and was brought into the pound. So there he was, run out of time and on death row, with two more days to live…. Gerdy's got him out and saved his life.

He is a BIG boy, at least 110 pounds, supposedly 3 years old but is very puppy-like in his goofy ways. One of the NICEST dogs one could ever meet! He has very intelligent eyes and seems to be a black Belgian Shepherd.

According to his foster mom, who is very knowledgeable of shepherds, he might be purebred as he has a black spot on his tongue. Here is what his foster has to say:

"He is SO sweet, gentle with food and treats, VERY obedient in sit and lay down...but can excitable like a little kid, although responsible with it. He doesn't jump up, he's fine with anyone or other dogs around his food, he gets on well with other dogs, is NOT an alpha, he's good with all people so far.

This dog is one great big baby and bundle of LOVE. He's likely to knock over small children with his size, but he would never do it intentionally. He's strong on a leash but very easily trained. He was marvelous in the tub and with the hair dryer, so happy to be rescued.

He was smiling from ear to ear at the fosters house! He integrated very quickly with the other two dogs there and is the submissive. He just ignores and goes happily on his way exploring. He was wonderful in the car and does not seem to have been abused. Just emotionally neglected.

He has obviously spent a lot of time in a cage, as all the points on his teeth are worn down flat, poor thing, probably from chewing on the cage. This dog is going to make a VERY LOYAL companion for a family with or without kids and is good with other pets.

He's just all around a fantastic and stunningly beautiful great big dog. He's goofy, curious and sweet and totally housetrained. Everyone fell in love with him right away. It's the feeling that you get from him, you just want to have him as your best friend."

He was vetted after we got him, and, after his heartworm test, was found to have ACTIVE HEARTWORM!. Gerdy's will take the responsibility of having him treated for it. It is a long process, so we are looking for a home for him NOW.

As he cannot be neutered right due to his condition, a home without any other dog would be best. All vaccinations will be done as well as sterilization by Gerdy's. THIS BOY NEEDS AN EARTH ANGEL FAMILY who can care for him through this long process of recovery.

Are YOU that special family this deserving boy can count on?

  Scooby Doo

This handsome big  2 year old  Grey Dapple (on brown) Great Dane is a dramatic study of giant breed with a huge heart full of love.  He thinks he is a lap dog but indeed he is, even if his head is the only part that can fit on your lap!

This boy is SUPER GENTLE and not a mean bone in him.  He is VERY skinny, weighs only 120 pounds but with a good quality food he will fill out in no time to reach his full potential.   He loves the car and travels well. HOUSETRAINED.

Gets along especially well with nice little dogs, spent time with a Maltese when his owner had not enough time for him and he was sent to a safe place awaiting Gerdy’s care.  Respectful in the house, needs training to walk well in a controlled manner—obedience lessons would benefit this guy, along with an Easy Walk harness to make it easier to walk him.  Settles down in the home and likes to be where the family is, he is very social.

Neutered, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated, dewormed, no fleas—Scooby Doo will be the comic character in your life!

  Zack

I’m Zack, 73 pounds of great 1 ½ year old  dog looking for a forever home!  I am a mix of Golden Retriever & German Shepherd, abandoned by my owner who did not want me anymore.

I am neutered, vaccinated and tested heartworm negative, dewormed. I am an extremely handsome boy (I am told, but I am modest).

I have a great nature for family life, rather a big boy but happy and gentle, I need a bit of leash training but I am smart so you can teach me my doggy manners walking. Good in the car.   I have the sunny Golden nature and the devotion of both in my mix.

Eager to please and get adopted, I hope you remember Zack when you think of getting a good forever dog.

  Lucky Boy

This delightful little mutt  seems to be a mix of husky and blond lab, -- web feet -- can we add duck to the mix??  His family tree is hard to distinguish, but one thing is for sure—this mediums-size boy at 44 pounds is a true winner of a family dog!  About 4 years old, he was a wanted and loved dog.  But his elderly owner was going into the hospital never to return home, so Lucky Boy needs  the  new loving family as his old owner wanted him to have.

HOUSETRAINED, he is a loving and cheerful boy, forever optimistic with a nice amount of energy that is just right.  Loves his leash walks.  We do not know if good with cats, he has not been cat tested.  But he has a good heart and might be ok with them.  Travels well in the car.  Sweet face and intelligent brown eyes.  Not a mean bone!

Neutered, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated, dewormed, no fleas—thoroughly sweet natured.   His ears flop over at the tips when he is interested in something.  Can YOU make it a lucky day for Lucky Boy and give him the loving home he craves again?

  Arthur

Meet Arthur, an athletic, neutered, 2 paws declawed 2.5 year old boy who is a playful companion. Arthur is a dominant boy who can only be placed in a single cat family. Arthur loves to play and soak up as much attention as possible, and with a face like this how could anyone not grant him this wish.

Arthur is energetic, people oriented and very easy to please with some cat toys and playful interactions. He uses his litter box, is non destructive, and enjoys just sitting on the couch with his master when it's time to just chill.

Arthur is very comfortable and happy to be a house cat where he remains safe. He will adjust very well to any family that provides love, affection, the occasional treats and tons of toys. He is an easy going boy who wants nothing more than to put a smile on your face.

Arthur is ready and waiting to start another new adventure and chapter in his life. Do not miss an opportunity for such a comical companion who will keep you entertained and proud to have such a wonderful boy to call your own. Arthur is vaccinated, sterilized and dewormed.

  Drako

Drako is back with us at Gerdy’s.  He is a wonderful boy who needs someone home if possible to give him the exercise he needs.  Draco is crate trained.  He is the star of the dog run, where he loved to play with the other dogs in his play group.

Drako is a handsome White German Shepherd whose previous owners did not have time for him anymore. He is about 70 pounds and is 2  years old.  Untested with cats. Drako is HOUSETRAINED, good in the car.

He is neutered, vaccines up to date, heartworm negative, dewormed, no fleas.  A handsome dog for people experienced with  handling German Shepherds.

Draco is a charmingly playful boy who loves children and adults alike.  Drako needs LOTS  of exercise, and a fenced yard where he can run and play.  He is a calm dog who is very sociable.  And a real handsome boy!

  Grover

At about 5-7 months old, I was living on the street with a homeless woman who gave me up to safety as cold weather was on its way.  I have long gangly legs, so not having a name, I was named after the character on Sesame Street by the lady who took me in.

What am I?  Well  I guess when I grow up it will be more apparent, but there seems to be St Bernard in there somewhere but with a thinner frame,  I am a mix.  Likely will be a BIG boy when all grown up.  I am VERY gentle, good with kids—I don’t get hyper and knock them over.  Would make a great family dog, but I don’t want kids who climb on me and be too rough with me, as I have a gentle, sensitive nature and I don’t want to be scared by roughness.  I won’t bite.  I would probably be fine with cats too.  I love other dogs, and strangers I am fine with.

Now I am a tad clumsy, due to my size and age—and having lived outside, I don’t get the concept of glass doors or stairs so you will have to show me what to do.  I like long, slow walks, and I sleep well, and am a calm puppy.  Submissive in general, I understand the word “no” and will drop what I am starting to chew if it turns out to be your shoes.  My protector who took me in has started to housetrain me, (I can “hold it” for 3-4 hours now) and I can  SIT on command.  I can be crated if you want while you are out then I won’t be tempted by your stuff lying around!

I am very skinny due to the life I had to lead on the street, but I will look great now I am getting good food.  From foraging for food in garbage, I have a few cuts on my face and forelegs likely caused by sharp edges of cans I tried to stick my nose in, but they are healing just fine. I have discovered toys, they say I am just a huge, clumsy baby!  I will have to learn everything about being an indoor dog, but I am real smart so will know that in short order!

Gerdy will have me neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed (in case).   For devotion—I’m your man, so look no further!!

  Adopted
  Enzo

This wonderful and super Blond Lab boy belies his true age of 7 years!  He looks and plays like a 2-3 year old dog!  In good shape, Enzo does the typical enthusiastic Lab play--loves the ball, running, going on trail--can go off leash eventually when used to his people and if the area is safe, swimming (important to dry the inside of his ears after!)

Enzo is Housetrained, a good boy, sweet nature but unintentionally rough with his body in play as many labs -- just enthusiastic, doesn't realize -- so best for grown  children. The reason he was given over to Gerdy's was that he was too playful around their small child, but he attended the protest march recently in Montreal against the gass chambers in pounds with his foster and was very well behaved; he just needs a bit of practice on leash -- but just a bit -- as he had spent 3 months in a crate in boarding somewhere by his old family before going in foster care.

Neutered and vaccinated. Enzo is the perfect family dog! A typical kind lab, not a mean bone, is our Enzo!

  Spike

Compassionate Placement

This dear little Shih Tzu of 14 pounds has been groomed—shaved. A dear wee soul, Spike allowed himself to be shaved to get his skin treated properly for a now taken care of skin problem. He just KNEW he was getting the help he needed. His legs are wonky walking but he gets around happily, he has a heart murmur but it doesn’t slow him down, but he must take heart meds for the rest of his life.

He can live another 2 years or more, but in life there are no guarantees of course.  It is quality not quantity of time with this wee fellow. Saved from euthanasia at a shelter, he had been dumped on the streets  and picked up as a straywhen his owner no longer wanted him.  He is the PERFECT dog, gentle, kind, and adoring. No problem to have. Neutered and vaccinated, Spike is ready to be loved again!

Please contact us for information

This 5 pound girl has gone through a lot so far in her young life!  She was found by a nice young woman hanging outside her car in the parking lot of the SPCA, obviously someone just left her there rather than take her inside.

When she saw the young woman, she went right up to her. She noticed the cat was pregnant.   Since she had no tags, she brought the cat home with her.  She had to be aborted as she was carrying 8 kittens and was very young herself, she would not have survived giving birth—as it was, she almost died after surgery and had to have emergency treatment to save her.

She spent a week at the vets recovering, Nina (as she was named) was a real fighter to LIVE!  She is about a year old domestic shorthair tabby, and gets along with DOGS!  We think she’d feel more comfortable being an only cat though as she was picked on when a stray and other cats intimidate this little gal.  Tested negative for FIV & Feline leukemia.

She is a vocal girl, will sleep with you at night if you allow, and is very cuddly and affectionate.  Imagine—5 pounds and full grown—how about giving this spayed petite girl a loving indoor home—she sure won’t take up much room!!

I am a VERY nice 20 pound male Schnauzer Mix and about 3 years old.  I am  neutered, heartworm tested negative, dewormed, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, flea free. A  worthy boy, I love people and getting  affection.

Very intelligent, I could easily master tricks or training with ease. You should know this Dutch  loves to play! Don’t you want a Dutch Treat today and forever?

This adorable and well behaved 6-7 Month old girl was found abandoned in an apartment after her people moved and deliberately left her behind.  The fright this sweetheart must have had until she was discovered!

But she made her way to Gerdy’s where we will find her a forever home.  WONDERFUL in the car, and she is not a barker.  She is 35 pounds and is a Border Collie X, very dainty girl, not large.  Black with white on all fours, and a white patch on her chest, whatever her mix this girl has not a mean bone in her, remarkably gentle and totally a sweetheart.

She is to be spayed and have all her vaccinations etc done, very friendly with other dogs, loves all people, would be a GREAT family dog.  Nala is a little ray of sunshine, can she shine her light in your home?

I am a 4 ½ month old (Oct 28) ENGLISH POINTER. Right now I weigh 26 pounds but I will get bigger!  I am fun and an active baby boy,-- good natured, sociable, interested in people, a well-adjusted young dog.

I likely will weigh around 50-55 pounds when grown. I love going on walks and am just the right age to start obedience training classes.  I am very smart so should lead the class!  My owners couldn’t keep me so here I am with Gerdy’s looking for a forever and loving home.

I will be Neutered shortly, vaccinated-Bordatella, Max 5 and Rabies, been dewormed and am flea free. Curious about everything, I will make a wonderful family dog!

  Missy

And what a 7 pound sweetheart she is!  At 6 years old and a nice calm age, she loves being carried about and going places, GREAT in the car and on leash.  She is a real “baby” as she is sized between a Toy and a Miniature classification.  Ideal for someone wanting a wee dog to fuss over!  Not for young children in a family as she is too delicate for rough play and could get hurt.

She is a curly charcoal black little lady with dark brown eyes, she is friendly to other gentle wee dogs and likely would be good with friendly cats, but would really prefer to be the only one in the family as she loves to be the diva!

Sporting red bows on her ears when we got her, she was being given up as they were moving where animals we not allowed, so Gerdy is looking for a loving forever home for her.  Not a snapper!  She is HOUSETRAINED.

Missy is a fashionista who loves attention and LOTS of affection and a feeling of protection for her tiny body—can YOU be her personal guardian angel?

A super-nice boy, I am amazingly gentle and mature for my age, with a gentle mouth.  I am very well behaved for my age and am not hyper but pleasantly playful.  The perfect Golden!

Given up because my owner was injured and no more time to  care for a puppy anymore, I am looking for a special home where I will be loved always as a true family member.

My neutering will be included in the adoption fee, baby vaccinations, deworming.  I am truly a little bear in looks, you can call me Paddy for short!

And what a girl she is!  A one-year-old  Samoyed, weighing 54 pounds, Charmin was unclaimed at a pound after being picked up wandering, and was saved by Gerdy’s.  No euthanasia for this girl—we went for one dog and came back with 3, left no one behind!

Charmin is BEAUTIFUL both outside and inside.  Soon to be spayed, she is vaccinated—Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies; heartworm tested negative, dewormed, no fleas.

She is a friendly dog, pure white long coat will require brushing regularly.  Fenced yard required as she needs the security to play in.

Jolly, she trots along so proudly and loves to show off her girly girl looks, a real flirt!  We don’t advise squeezing this Charmin, but a good belly scratch she’d love!

This handsome Domestic Shorthair girl is DECLAWED  on ALL 4 PAWS!!  Yet she was abandoned in the past winter around St Lazare/Vaudreuil where she was finally brought in out of the cold by establishing trust with a family in the area.  She refused for most of the winter to let them take her in, so they put out food, since she was starving and could not ever have looked after herself by hunting.

She is a fine black girl, a nice size for a female, and could be a couple of years old according to the vet. They are trying to find her a new home through Gerdy's.  She has been tested negative for FIV/FelV, dewormed, vaccinated, and was found to be spayed. She has the most beautiful eyes!  Let Midnight brighten your day and life!

About 2 ½ months old (Sept 21), this adorable male pup looks like a mix of German Shepherd and Blond Lab—he is as sweet as can be!  At 11 pounds so far, this little treasure is curious, nicely playful, highly intelligent, and loves people.

He came into Gerdy’s when he was noticed wandering alone along a sidewalk, he went hopefully up to a man walking with his little girl—and the man kicked him away!  He was immediately picked up by this caring person and taken to the safety of their home;  later they contacted Gerdy to take him on as a Gerdy’s dog.

He will have his Bordatella and the other vaccines as well as his deworming and sterilization at an appropriate age—all done as included in his adoption fee.  He has a gorgeous soft coat and chocolate brown trusting eyes that think the world is a wonderful place to be in.

What a charming and fun loving Airedale boy!!  Rocky is 73 pounds, about 4 years old, and is an AIREDALE.

He was picked up by a pound after apparently a long time wandering (by the look of his coat).  No one ever claimed him, so Rocky was going to be euthanized as he had run out of time.

Rocky is a jolly boy with a huge grin, he loves the world!  You can’t be in a bad mood around Rocky, he won’t let you!  He will have you uplifted in no time, with his smile.

Rocky was neutered, vaccinated—bordatella, max 5, & rabies; heartworm tested negative, dewormed, no fleas, vet checked.

ROQUET is the nickname of this gorgeous animal, his full name is Roquet Belles Oreilles. He was found half starved in the streets and has been with a loving family for 5 months but they can't keep him forever. He's a 40-45 lbs blend of boxer and (shorthaired )sheltie. He has a slight build, but is quite strong and will need a firm walker.

He ABSOLUTELY LOVES people and is a real sweetie! Full of energy as he is only 1 year old. This dog is NOT for couch potatoes or for families with children under 14 years old. Very intelligent, he will thrive in an environment where he will be stimulated. He has learned to walk well on a leash and after a few months of weekly training sessions at Vie de Chien, his socializing is coming along well. Roquet has received all his first shots , is sterilised ,microchiped. and he is HOUSETRAINED.

He can be left alone during the day...no damage will be done but he will be a lot happier if he is taken out midday for an energetic walk... Fee is sought to help cover part of the costs that have been spent on him, and can be discussed.

Roquet,(diminutif pour Roquet Belles Oreilles)un chien trouvé errant et affamé, se recherche une famille qui l' aimera pour toujours! Il demeure avec nous depuis 5 mois...quel amour de toutou!

Leonard is my real name, but you can call me LEN.  So Gerdy took me on—I have never figured out why I wasn’t wanted, I am SUCH a sweet year old  boy with not a mean bone, but my family was going to euthanize me, they said they didn’t have time for me.

I PROMISE you will love me, I have the softest eyes! I am a Foxhound but I am only 45 pounds so a nice size, easy to manage,  gentlemanly dog.  I am the perfect family dog, BUT only one thing—I chase cats if they do not stand up to me and give me a swat—so if you don’t have a cat, I should do just fine as I think they are toys to  chase!

Being neutered, I am vaccinated , dewormed, and heartworm tested negative.  I like other friendly dogs!  I am clean in the house but if you go out, put me in a crate, as I am happier in one if you go out, and don’t mind it at all.

I was never a wanted dog,-- Gerdy thinks a one-on-one situation is what I need until I get  housetrained well,  I have to concentrate on being the best I can be first, but I am learning!     I would love a second dog my size!

I need a SECURE and fenced-in yard because being a hound I will follow my nose to the ends of the earth if allowed to run loose!  But I am easy to walk on leash as I am not TOO big!  I am SO AFFECTIONATE—Len, Leonard, or Lennie—you will be getting the most wonderful guy in the world!

Please give me a home!!  I am a SMALL  female 1 year old Domestic Shorthair, found very thin and starving in a neighbour’s back yard meowing piteously for food. I’m serious!  I could have died because no one notices a little black cat in trouble.  We are the hardest to find a home for, did you know?  Yet we are as loving as the most beautiful cat you’d ever see! And when well fed, us Blackies have the MOST glossy and dramatic coats!   This kind  woman couldn’t just leave me to die, so she took me in and called Gerdy.

I was  then taken to a vet for vaccines, deworming, defleaing and a spay.  I am  FIV/FELV negative.  She asked Gerdy for help in placing me, a little  Plain Jane black cat but with  the personality  of a Beauty Queen!  I am  VERY FRIENDLY, not afraid of dogs but I want to be their friend, not at all concerned!

VERY AFFECTIONATE, little Minuet Me loves to cuddle, curl up in a sunny spot or on your lap, or I could just chill out near your computer as you work at home!  I will fit into your life—I will MAKE myself fit perfectly if you will only give me a secure home, I promise.!  You will never be sorry you gave this wee black cat an inside-home life, I never want to be outside again, it was scary!  And I will love you every day of my life!

  Kimmie

Kimmie is not yet for adoption, but we invite applications for this sweet and happy natured little girl, a 4 month old ShihTsu.  She may lose an eye due to an injury to the cornea, but if she can, Kimmie’s angel of a vet is going to do her best to save it if at all possible.  In which case, she will need daily drops all her life, but no big deal to do that, any caring person can administer the drops quickly and simply.  If she has to lose her eye, she will still be a beautiful and happy girl, that will not change.

Kimmie needs a nurturing forever home, but while she is GREAT with children, she’d be better off with adults who will do this for her daily or be otherwise devoted to her needs.  No one knows what happened to Kimmie, but she was rescued from a pound where no one claimed or wanted her.   She ended up being  taken to  the SPCA needing this extra treatment or surgery.

Gerdy took her over and to our vet—your donations at work again!   Her wee tail wags with delight at meeting other little dogs, and she is a real magnet for people who she loves getting admiration from—yet is still a modest miss who appreciates the attention given her. A dear, dear, girl.

She will be spayed under Gerdy’s Rescues, vaccinated, and dewormed, flea free.  Her love will reward your care many times over!

  Columbo

This dear BASSET Hound boy is only 1 ½ years old and tri-coloured-- neutered, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated, dewormed, no fleas.  At  42 pounds, he is as mild-mannered as Bassets come!  Granted, he needs work on his housetraining a bit more, but his foster has him almost perfect now!

GREAT with kids, other friendly dogs, interested in cats (with tail wagging), NOT A MEAN BONE,  and great in the car, he travels well.    5 weeks in the SPCA and unchosen, he was happy to leave there as a Gerdy’s dog, and trotted along so happily out of there, looking all about him!  Jolly, he is the typical good-natured Basset Hound!  Walks quite well on leash, but will be perfect with training by you.  Crate trained, he is content to be in it when his person is out.

Wonderful with small children! Great at playing with other nice dogs, he is very social, interested in people (even goes to strangers for attention!) Keep in mind—a member of the HOUND FAMILY needs a securely fenced yard to roam about in as they follow their nose and could get easily lost—Bassets are helpless to look after themselves!  That is why they are such a “people dog” and love to be in the center of family activity, not shut in another room missing all the family fun or tv watching.  If only sleeping, he will enjoy just being near his people—such is the Basset! Columbo is a treasure of a Basset!

  Spike

Spike is a dear boy, about 3 months- old orange tabby domestic shorthair found wandering without a home of his own in an area on the West Island where unwanted cats and kittens are dumped.  He was found hungry, scared and alone by a property owner, who took him in and contacted Gerdy.

He uses the litterbox, and loves to be petted and played with, said the man who found him, and said also he does not hiss, scratch nor bite—they were even able to give him a bath!!  Included in his adoption fee will be his kitten vaccines, deworming, and neutering surgery.  No fleas.

Spike is alert, intelligent, and would so appreciate a safe indoor-only home with loving people who would give him security all his life.

  Zoe

I am a beautiful 6 years old (birthday Feb 1st) purebred  GENTLE  girl, a 90- pound German Shepherd.  I LOVE people, have NO separation anxiety, and am a joy to have around.  I wouldn’t even think about biting someone!  I am only being given up  because of genuine need, my owner has no other choice,-- so Gerdy is trying to help me as best she can.

I LOVE my walks!  I am spayed, vaccinated up to date, heartworm tested and protected.  I have NO guarding issues with food or possessions, best with OLDER kids  as I love to play and might be too big for the little ones!  Used to being left alone all day while my owner works, I never destroyed or chewed up a thing!!  I would however, take something belonging to my owner to lay it beside me or at the door to welcome her home with, to tell her I was thinking of her all day!  But that was when she was gone longer than expected, I am good at judging time!

You will never see a more curious, intelligent or human-oriented dog as me!  I am not a dog who likes to be off from the family at home, I want to be with my people otherwise I will whine til I join you—if that is annoying so be it because an affectionate girl like me needs my human contact—as an example, I will push myself into the teeniest corner to sleep if it means I will be right next to your bed where YOU sleep, and ideally if I ever get the chance to rest my head on you just to TOUCH you while we both sleep—that would be Heaven!  I listen to commands to sit, lie down, or stay—but I don’t “stay” too long!

Good at leash walking, and when I get to know you I could run leash free at the dog park—I am good with other friendly dogs big and small, AND I tolerate cats that would be a part of my household!  I’d make a great second dog for someone if the other dog was as nice as me!  Now being a German Shepherd, I will bark when people approach my home, but if you tell me it’s ok, I will stop and then make them welcome because you do.  If something is suspicious around your home though, I will bark to alert you there might be trouble, even if it is just the mailman at the door!  I could chase sticks for HOURS, and I will impress you by jumping 2 feet in the air to catch them—VERY impressive to onlookers—and I also chase balls—but I don’t bring them and drop at your feet—maybe you can teach me to do that!

NOW, with all that PERFECT stuff — I have a bit of a medical condition. It's called LUPOID ONCHODYSTROPHY, and it is treated with niacinamide and a tetracycline (antibiotic).  It costs about $60 a month to treat with ALL meds.  It is a form of Lupus that affects my nails, I was diagnosed 3 years ago when I lost all my nails,-- when I was put on meds my nails grew back, so I have to keep on getting my meds for life, otherwise I will lose my nails again.  There are different treatments, currently I am taking the least expensive taken 3x daily.  But if you can afford it, there is a pill that is once EVERY 3 DAYS instead.

I also get a spray of omega fatty acids once a day on my food.  Being allergic to corn, I currently eat a corn-free dry dog food.  I could use a good teeth cleaning!  So that is my story.  So I need a family or person willing to treat me monthly—out of love and concern for me—the cost to you of maybe a night out once a month—now how good a deal is that?  ZOE is Greek for  “life”—can you carry the torch passed by my devoted owner and look after me for the rest of MY  life?

This little Cocker Spaniel pup is only 4 months old and about 15 pounds so far!  Lots of fun, very loving, and quite obedient for such a young puppy, he will be neutered under Gerdy's Rescues when old enough, included in his adoption fee.

Vaccinated, dewormed, flea free, this dear boy was left behind by his people when they moved away, and seeks a forever home!  He is a sweetheart who will make someone very happy to welcome him home!

Hi my name is Max. I am 3 years old and LARGE dog—110 pound they say Great Dane/English Mastiff mix but we think with St Bernard or Bernese Mountain dog in there! I will weigh even more as I am UNDERWEIGHT!

Neutered and vaccinated, I can be crated when you go out as otherwise I might take anything I can to eat or play with. I LOVE being with people all the time if I can, I LOVE people around me! I bark to go out, I am housetrained, and I want to know where you are!!

I have lots of energy but when I am with you will be a quiet boy. I am a PERFECT walker if you walk me with my chest harness on. I am a big goof personality, not a mean bone and if I want you to see something, I will take your hand in my mouth gently and take you with me to show you! How smart is THAT!!

Black and white with different coloured eyes, I am VERY handsome! My original family was unable to care for me any longer. I play very well with mid to large dogs and would love a friend to live with.! No cat thank you! I love going on car rides. I need a large yard that is fenced in.

I am to big for young children, so teens would suit me better as I could accidently knock over the wee kids! So if you want to love this Max to the maximum for the rest of my life, here I am!

  Moose

Moose is a nice,  sweet girl of 56 pounds, named affectionately by the person who saved her from the streets where she was abandoned without a friend in the world.  About a year old, and put out for no good reason to fend for herself.

She has pinkeye from swimming in the filthy pond in Agrignon Park. Moose is being treated with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and eye drops to cover all possible in case, but it is nothing that will affect her health  in the future, just a result of unsanitary conditions where she was dumped to wander until saved.  She has had her basic vaccines now, and will be spayed as soon as possible.

She is healthy and clean, and has no fleas. She is likely a Husky/Shepherd mix and is very intelligent -- she listens in French and English.  Though she pulls on her leash (get a Easy Walk harness!), she also knows how to Sit, Couche, and Assis!!  She plays all day with her foster/saviour’s dog, and is kind to children and cats.

Housetrained. LOVES TO SWIM! Takes food gently when hand-fed, happily eats and drinks with no guarding, and is submissive to the foster’s dog. Our “Moose” is a dear! (Excuse the pun!)

This darling Punkin’head Bear-looking  German Shepherd pup is our latest project!  Not yet ready for adoption, we are featuring him and will be updating his progress.   And yes folks, we are going to help him not only get better, but to find him a home when he is ready!  Named Flipper before he came to us (!), we started by giving him a STRONG name with dignity to grow into as a goal.  This pup has not had an easy life.

Why do his feet look like that and can he be made a normal-walking dog again?  YES!!  We have had our vets plus Dr Plante of DMV assess him, all agree he will get better by GOOD FOOD (he was malnourished) and proper rehabilitative exercise.  Simple to do.  He likely was put in a small cage, grew, and the cage didn’t! He could only lay down with front paws extended and back ones folded up under him—he could never STAND UP!   So he had no strength there to stand properly when he was finally freed from the cage.

Likely when THAT was seen, he was turned loose on the street, as he was found by people and they kept him on their balcony for a couple of days before dropping him off at the SPCA.  Likely wanted to care for him after found but couldn’t because of his problem.  He then contracted bad kennel cough.

Gerdy’s took him over, had the kennel cough treated, and a stool sample showed coxidea—for which he is just finishing treatment under Gerdy’s as well. In a wonderful foster home to recover from his kennel cough, he will soon be able to be cared for by a volunteer who will foster him while tending to his required exercises to strengthen his legs so he stands tall like a dog should!  We don’t know where this darling boy came from, but we will be sure he never knows neglect again when he is ready for adoption.

He is one happy boy, cute as a button,  everyone loves him, and he loves the world.  We have to ask ourselves the question—HOW can a dog POSSIBLY not have emotional scars from all this?  We think because they are far more forgiving, and only want to please, no matter how terrible their treatment—dogs always think something good is around the corner—they have HOPE.

This handsome young man of 4 months needs his forever home with a loving family. A pure CHOCOLATE LAB , Rocco was born on  March 7, 2010. He is very well behaved, quiet and easy-going in nature. He has had his vaccines and will be neutered under Gerdy’s at the proper time,  included in his adoption fee.

He seeks a new home as owner has moved out of town and could not take him with her. We will choose a home where he will not be left alone all day.  Rocco will bring joy into some lucky family’s world!

These 3 kittens were put in a sealed box beside a roadside where luckily they were found in time, and Gerdy had them taken to a vet.

So, now they are ready for adoption.  They are in a foster home and doing very well, all are purring merrily and playing, happy little kittens about 2 months of age.  They will be spayed/neutered under Gerdy’s as part of their adoption fee.

Linus is Mr Personality in behavior, was the first to purr and did it  loudly!  He is VERY inquisitive and smart—he figured out he couldn’t get onto a lap from the floor so climbed the scratching post and leapt from there!  Got into the desired lap no problem.  He is the Engineer of the 3, trying to figure out all the solutions in life!

Casper and Cassandra are both black and are just starting to learn to purr as they are a little timid and depend upon each other more, but will soon be off doing more interesting things too.

This beautiful young boy was found wandering the streets, abandoned.  Another victim of the moving day dumping of animals.  Puppy has made his way into the care of Gerdy’s Rescues and is present in foster care.  He is likely not older than 18 months and is a St-Bernard mix—maybe with Bernese Mountain Dog.

He is about 100 pounds and will shortly be neutered.  Vaccinated and heartworm tested negative, he DOES NOT DROOL!  And is HOUSETRAINED!  Gets along very well with other friendly dogs AND cats. Very friendly and affectionate, he is still a bit clumsy as he is a big pup!

Not a barker, he loves his on leash walks.  Puppy is a handsome boy whose sweet face and manner will charm you!

  Oliver

This wonderful boy is a Doberman, likely a bit of a mix, but Doberman to us and Oliver!! He was born April 19, 2009, a 1 YEAR OLD BEAUTY!

At 83 pounds, Oliver needs obedience training for sure, to walk controlled on a leash—he is smart and eager to learn, and will do his best to please.  You will notice he has his normal ears and tail—they were not cropped nor docked.  His owner felt very bad at not being able to take him when he moved away, he was not given up on a whim.

We are told great with people—kids too, not a mean bone.  Very loving.  Not for a home with cats tho, he is not used to them.  Neutered, vaccines to date, dewormed. Oliver is a sleek boy with a lot of class hidden behind his untrained exuberance, and is housetrained.  A gem of a boy!

  MacTavish

MacTavish looks sort of like a Schnauzer, but everyone sees a Scottie in their too!  He has SUCH a sweet face, and is a 12 pound darling—although very skinny right now.  He had been hit by a car and his family waited a month before depositing him at the SPCA because they no longer wanted him.  He is happy, cheerful and active, but we want to get our vet to check that leg, thougth it seems ok now. Damage certainly is not apparent and he seems fine.

He has the somewhat coarse hair of the mini Schnauzer, but at the same time we see a bit of a Scottie coat, and the shiny shoebutton eyes of the Scottie, as well as the Scottie expression!  So we named him MacTavish!  He is starting life anew with a nice elegant  new name!

MacTavish travels well in the car we found.  He is interested in all going on around him, thinks the world is a safe place and trusts that someone will always look after him—one of THOSE dogs, a real sweetie!  All black, he has long skinny legs, he really looks adorable and with a good grooming, would be a perfectly handsome little guy!

His history is that he was a give-away dog and the new family treated him like that—a sure lesson not to give away a pet to strangers on the internet  but to get a rescue to take—much safer for the dog!  He is getting vetted now and will be neutered,  and have all vet needs done—deworming, any vaccines needed.  All MacTavish needs now is a tartan jacket, a set of bagpipes, and YOU to dance the Highland Fling with!

  Moby

This 1-2 year old boy is a Black Lab Mix with soulful eyes that will melt your heart!  Likely has Border Collie in him as well.  Moby is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested negative.  He is nicely active and playful, a home with older children or adults would suit him best.

Moby was treated by us for a broken leg (suspected abuse) after we found him in a shelter where he was brought to be euthanized.   He is fully recovered ready for his new loving home.

He would love to be fussed over and enjoys a good run now.  A fenced property is sought so he can play ball and get lots of exercise. He is very smart and would love to learn new tricks!  You won’t mope when you have Moby to love!

Papousse is fun loving and loyal, and  will “listen” to your every word, why, he might even answer you back! How’s that for intelligence? Neutered, heartworm tested negative, Papousse has his vaccines up to date—Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella—vet checked, no fleas, dewormed—ready to be your little Papousse forever!

Here I am, a young lady BEAGLE of 1 year, looking for my forever home!  And what a great family dog I am!  Get this—Friendly and used to other dogs and kids!  HOUSETRAINED for all you mothers out there!!  Spayed, vaccinated to date.  AND I am very well educated!  I did training school for 5 weeks in an intensive 5 day a week program—but I basically learned to sit and lie down!

Now you need to know that on leashed walks I need to smell EVERYTHING because Beagles have such a great sense of smell—so I need to be reminded  with a little friendly prompting on walks to slow down, I AM capable of walking well on leash.  Please, not off-leash, I’d follow my nose forever and get lost.

I love a nice friendly dog park to  run in, to chase balls, and I’d worship anyone who scratched me behind my ears!!  Oh, how I LOVE that!  I am used to nice respectful young children, and I don’t chew up things but I appreciate a nice Nylabone to chew on!!

I hate to sound vain, but I AM a very sweet girl  and you will never regret not passing me by.  Mamma Mia, here I go again—into your life!

  Mam'zelle

Sister to Becky and Beckham, Mam'zelle needs more socialization in a kind, patient, and understanding home.  She is a GREAT girl who had a very hard start in life, found in a barn with her littermates, abandoned and starving, they were going to be euthanized for lack of homes, when Gerdy got the call and took these guys over, our thanks to Lynda, then Audrey for fostering for us. This is what her first foster told us:

"The brown one is named Mam'zelle.  She is absolutely gorgeous but much more scared than the others. She is playful when I talk to her, she comes, runs around me and then she backs up....  She wants me around, but not too close most of the time.  Sometimes, she is OK, but I have to be very sweet and careful.  She will need a very secure environment.  She may learn well but she is still too much scared.  So I pay attention to secure her instead of training.  It is cute, she jumps on me for cheese or any food other than their food, absolutely not afraid!!!  So, it is the way to win her!"

And her next foster Audrey now says:  "She is housetrained, and adjusting to new sounds and family activities.  The children love her, she loves the kids.  She is coming along, loud noises still startle her and she is skittish, but much improved, her confidence is growing with each day. Tomorrow my daughter is having a birthday party and she will be with the guests at the party."

Mam'zelle has not a mean bone in her, just needs confidence.  She is a beautiful caramel and dark brown in colouring, will be spayed by us, her puppy vaccines as well. A 36 pound beauty, and just as lovely inside!

Was given up by owner without enough time to devote to a young pup, Stella loves to be held and cuddled, and is crazy about her walks!  Good in the car, she will soon go fast asleep!  An exceptional girl in every way, a real darling.

This sweet 9 pound female cat is about 3 years old and is a Domestic Longhair TORTOISESHELL,  grey and beige in colour, very pretty.  Minky is 9 pounds of sweetness and gentleness.  FIV and FelV tested negative, Minky is an enterprising girl who went to a person’s back door and begged to be taken safely inside!

She made her way to Gerdy and was spayed and vaccinated.  She has a lovely nature and will make some lucky someone a wonderful cuddle cat!

  Gracie

Gracie arrived at a woman’s house, as she said, “by the Grace of God”.  The woman had, after gardening, set her garden gloves on the railing and went inside. Then wanting refreshing breezes in the house after a bit, had gone and opened the door. As she opened the door, there were her garden gloves in front of the door, and a  small wet spot of water! “What have those raccoons been up to now?” she thought.  Just then a dog appeared at her open door, grinning happily.

She had never seen this dog before!  She realized the dog had fetched the garden gloves and had been laying at the door with them beside her, panting in the heat (hence the small wet spot!)  There was no sign of anyone when she looked for an owner.  Being highly allergic she could not take in the dog but neither wanted her to go to a pound, so she made her comfortable her in the back yard.

After much inquiry and searching every source available, there was still no one to claim her, so she went to the doctor for a special allergy test to see if she could possibly keep Grace, as she named her.  No, she could not!  So she contacted Gerdy and the rest is history-- Gracie will be spayed, heartworm tested, given Revolution once we know she is negative, vaccinated, dewormed.

Gracie we are told is very good with kids and we find her to have a beautiful temperament, not a mean bone in her!  A GREAT family dog of 52 pounds.  We suspect because she has one blue and one brown eye, that she has Husky in her but possibly Lab in there, actually she is  a pure Designer Original Mutt and PROUD of it!   She is a happy girl who is friendly with other nice dogs and likely would accept a cat.

Gracie is an EXCEPTIONAL girl and we recommend her highly—after all she used her ingenuity to get noticed and helped!

This older PUG puppy is a wonderful boy, fantastic temperament, a typical pug!  Very good in his crate, he settles down quickly to sleep.  He loves his walks, and gets along great with other friendly dogs.

Beige with a dark mask, he is a  handsome young chap, with a face that will melt your heart.  Active and energetic, he is not a biter or a snapper but Mr Jolly 24 hours a day!  Can you believe it—this boy was dumped by his owners who didn’t care if he died on the streets, they just didn’t want to keep him a second longer.  Well now he is in the safety of Gerdy’s and he will be neutered shortly.  Vaccinated to date.

Currently in foster care where his foster mother says he is well behaved for his age, quite housetrained, loves affection and to play—he has no bad points!  He has Clint’s name and Clint’s wrinkles, but even Mr Eastwood cannot match our Clint’s personality-plus!!

  Rickie

I am a 2 year old beige/black tabby domestic shorthair girl with beautiful spiral markings and green eyes. Spayed and my shots up to date. My mother was rescued off the street after surviving a harsh winter. She was sick, weak and pregnant. I had to be fed by bottle because my mother never really bonded with me: she left for several days when I was only two weeks old.

Over the time, she became very territorial and it escalated from reproaching every move I made to zero tolerance of my presence. She now physically attacks me whenever I appear. My humans have tried everything to improve the situation-without success. It has reached a stage where we are kept in separate parts of the house.

My humans are moving into an apartment, which worries them and me. It would be very difficult to hide from Mommy in a small apartment. I am very affectionate, gentle and sensitive soul who never has a calm or happy day. I am always looking around corners to see if the coast is clear. My family loves me very much but feel I deserve more than a life filled with anxiety.

My favourite pastime is to be brushed and caressed. Whenever it happens, I feel I'm in heaven. I also like to play when I know that Mommy is locked outside and then I play twice as hard to make up for the times I can't. My Mommy is a nice cat but she just doesn't like me. I wish I could have a home of my own! I'm very loyal and have a deep need to be protected and be a true and constant companion. Please give me a chance to prove my love and devotion. My suitcase is already packed.

  Clarence

Hi folks—I’m Clarence, and I have a mission—to get a new forever home where I will be loved and treasured!  I am a TERRIER X of about 10 pounds,  about 2 years old, and HOUSETRAINED. And I get along with other dogs.

Sterilized, vaccinated and dewormed,  no fleas.  I can pack my bag at any moment to go with you!  I love to play, crazy about people.  Why am I here then, Mr Perfect?  Well, I had a real nightmare time—I was a stray that was never claimed and was going to be put down at a pound in Ontario, a lady visiting the area just dropped into the pound to see what was there—l’il ole ME!  She got me out of there FAST and took me home with her to Montreal  and called Gerdy, so –whew!  I am safe!  Close call!

I am a real cool guy, but I sure was worried for awhile!  Now I ask you—do you need ME,  Clarence,  to make your life complete?

  Toto

Toto is so like Dorothy’s dog in the Wizard of Oz!  Of uncertain origins, appears to be a mix of little Schnauzer and terrier—BUT no matter the mix—this is a wonderful little boy!  Found abandoned, he became a Gerdy’s dog.  His foster mum says he is an absolute pleasure—exceptional with all animals, adores children, listens when called, AND a GREAT personality.  He is very intelligent and eager to please.

A great family dog.  Neutered, vaccinated, this young man is 90 % housetrained by his foster mum, and a delight to have as a member of the family—a complete delight in every way!

  Shaun

This dog has been through a horrible experience and has retained his loving and trusting nature.  A black Flat Coat Retriever Mix of about 6 months of age, he spent 3 whole days tied to a post, through rain, sun, and cold—NO ONE noticed he was never claimed, that he was indeed ABANDONED!  No food, no water, just patiently waiting still tied to the pole,  for his master to come back for him.  He waited in vain.

Suddenly he was helped by a young man and made his way to the safety of Gerdy’s Rescues, where he will be neutered, have his vaccines, & deworming and a good vet check.  He is a darling boy, at 44 pounds, nicely playful, knows how to SIT.  Sweet natured, this dog will make someone a wonderful pet.  As he is young, best suited to a family who has the time to train him and give him the exercise he needs—home all day person would be ideal!

He is a very good looking boy and his tail is always wagging.  Likely will be good with dogs and cats, as he is happy go lucky in nature.  Yes—he was named after the man who found him!!

  Wiser

Originally a puppymill dog, Wiser finally came to live with a kind woman, but now circumstances in her life have unfortunately changed and Wiser needs a new forever home.  WISER the Pug  is 8 years old, but a pup at heart, in great shape.

Spayed and up to date on her vaccines,  she LOVES kids, small animals, and doesn’t bark so would be ideal for condo or apartment living (after you make sure you are allowed to keep a dog!)  Pugs are natural clowns, but need affection to be at their best.  A happy Pug is a loved Pug!  A long-lived breed, Wiser would enjoy walks and car rides with her new family, and just being quietly in their presence.

The devotion of these dogs is well known, so if you want a little pal and confidant, look no further than Wiser.  You can’t get any wiser but you CAN get THIS WISER!!

If interested, email us at info@gerdysrescue.org for contact information.

Ivy is coming from a home where her owner has developed severe allergy to her, she is a very loved girl.  She loves to sit in the yard with you on leash, tethered.  If she sees a bird, she likes to watch but not try to chase! She is spayed and her front paws were already DECLAWED. Her vaccines are to date. This beautiful girl is a CALICO and a DOMESTIC LONGHAIR.

Her owner had found her in the Laurentians 5 years ago (she is now 6 years old)--so starved and weak she was lying half in the water.  Her paws were cut and she had a dislocated knee.  Her paws were glued back together and are fine.  The knee does not affect her walking or running but she doesn't jump as high as other cats--which can be a good thing!

She is a bit of a scairdy-cat and is afraid of strangers and loud noises so needs a quiet home with patient ADULTS who will not mind her adjustment period as she gets used to her new home. Best she be an only cat or pet to feel more secure. Indoor home only. She is very affectionate.  Let this IVY wind her way around your heart!

  Suzy - The single lovebird

Courtesy Listing & Compassionate Placement

We will supply the present owner with your contact information, serious inquiries only.

As you can see, Suzy is not a dog or cat!  But we were touched by her story and are looking for an experienced bird person to take her on, obviously one who is patient and a good care-giver and lover of birds!

Things you should know: (by her present owner) She is 2.5 years old, she lays a clutch of eggs about every 3 months. She is very loud but also very entertaining. Suzy is very social and needs a lot of attention when people are around. I find that suzy will become possessive of people or objects and she will bite or screech if she is jealous. She spends a lot of time out of her cage but doesn't necessarily need to. Her water should be changed twice daily and her food once a day. Her cage should be cleaned every second day. Her colours are white, yellow, and bluish purple. She has never had a mate, I don't know how she would react if she was attempted to be paired up.

Suzy is not for a family with small children (under 10). Whoever adopts her will have to understand that it will take a lot of time and patience for Suzy to warm up. She will always be loud, and in the beginning Suzy Q may bite a lot. I had to deal with these behaviours myself. Once she knows you, Suzy is cuddlie, and loves to have her head rubbed. She likes to share toast in the morning and will even steal a sip of milk! Suzy Q loves to take a bath under a running tap and then dry herself on your shoulder. She is funny and smart.

Charlie is THE PERFECT dog!   A 2 year old Cockapoo by appearance.    Non-shedding, HOUSETRAINED, and sterilized, vaccinated.   He also gets along with other dogs and cats.  Very affectionate.

He likes to play tricks on you—he will move your slippers, shoes, gloves and hat—but does not destroy anything!  Calm and quiet, he will bark when someone is at the door or an unusual sound is heard.  He loves food, so will “hover” around as you prepare meals, hoping for a wee tidbit coming his way.  A very quick learner,  he now sits and waits for his command before taking his meal, and does not bother you at meal time.

BUT he has epilepsy.  His seizures are being monitored AND TREATED with Phenobarbital, it is hoped soon that the medication will control his seizures completely.  Someone with experience in loving and caring for an epileptic dog is desirable.

Charlie would be PERFECT for someone working from home or early retirees often at home.

This sweet Shih Tzu boy was born in November 2004. He was given up because his owner had no time for him anymore.  His foster family finds him a delightful little guy who can easily be carried around, and is a true lap dog.

He has a wonderful nature, very trusting and not a mean bone in his body.  Great appetite, loves to play, great with cats and other friendly dogs, but he was actually used to being an only dog! LOVES to sleep on the bed at night and stays in one spot til morning!  Preferably under the covers!

Good dog for older respectful children, not for the little ones as he is not a toy!  Neutered, vaccines—Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, Heartworm negative, dewormed, no fleas—he is packing  his mini suitcase so he will be ready to be adopted into his forever home!

  Jack

Jack, a beautiful 4 ½ year old male Golden Retriever, is looking for a new home. He is super friendly, affectionate and full of love. He is neutered and vaccinated. He is an excellent family dog; great with kids.  He showed some initial dominance over other dogs but was quickly told NO and listened immediately. He is good with cats.  Neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, no fleas.

Highly trainable, Jack is 94 lbs and currently on a regime to slim him down.  He does not have a lot of experience on a leash and is being taught not to pull on walks. He will need some patient training to continue his progress. Jack is familiar with some of the basic commands and is learning others very quickly.  He needs regular exercise, play and walks.

Jack is looking for a new home where the family does not leave him alone during the day. Jack looks forward to curling up beside you as you relax and to being your loyal friend forever.

Hi everyone! I’m SKY-- a gorgeous, young at heart 12-year-old Collie mix in great physical shape!  Though I am very much loved and appreciated, there is a change in my family circumstances and I am now looking for a new loving and secure home.  But I am no slouch, I can tell you!  THIS senior is a FIT GAL  who loves her walks!

I am GREAT with other DOGS and CHILDREN, love my daily exercise playing and I am NON DESTRUCTIVE!! No separation anxiety!    In fact, I am PERFECT from head to tail!

I have a great character, and I just adore everyone that I meet.  Health-wise I am in tip-top shape, other than a cataract on my left eye, but that doesn’t slow me down. Recently a mass was removed from me and it was benign. So I am well checked out medically! I have always had good medical care!

I must let you know that I have never really interacted with cats, and therefore I would not be able to let you know if I think they are ok to be around.  If you are looking to share your life with a wonderful, loving and happy-go-lucky gal, please consider me as a part of a new chapter in your lives.

I am ready and willing to continue this wonderful life’s journey with you.    Wherever you go, the  SKY around you will be filled with love, joy, and devotion!!

Sky is spayed, fully vaccinated and heart worm tested negative.  Sky wants so much to live her life to the fullest with that special someone.

This little sweetheart Shih Tzu girl was going to be euthanized as her owner was moving.  Being 13 years old,  she was a mess, ungroomed -- as she was going down, why bother? -- and the owner considered grooming unnecessary, so just left her to get more and more matted like felt.   She switched her to people food for the last several days as no point in wasting money on dog food!

When we went to look at this girl, expecting her to be in poor shape, we were startled to see this little girl racing up and down the stairs like a pup, so happy to see us!  Cheerful 12 pounds  and FULL OF LIFE!  So off she went with us to the vet—to be saved instead.  She is in fine fettle, a senior wearing her age extremely well.

We had her spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, and groomed, now she is good to go!  She is housetrained, easy to walk, affectionate—not a mean bone—just wanting love with a smile on her face at every opportunity, a real cuddler!   Her vet is amazed at her condition—such a youthful  looking girl!

Happy to watch your favourite soap on TV or to trot with you on your daily stroll, this is a fantastic joyful girl!  Very friendly to all she meets!

  Marley (aka Ozzy)

This is a VERY gentle dog, great with kids, patient and kind.  The other dog from this family was shot in the head and killed by his owner.  WHY?  Because the house had no fence and the 2 dogs didn’t know any better and wandered away whenever they were let outside.

One day the owner followed them and vented his anger in this horrific way.  He was prevented from also killing Marley in the same manner by a young man who witnessed what happened, and took Marley into safety and they contacted Gerdy’s to take over this boy. Marley is a nice dog, always happy, not aggressive at all!  Good with other dogs, cats, and even parrots!! He always avoids confrontation with the other dog, not protective of his food either.  He has very good recall and is always happy to come.

He will be neutered by Gerdy’s shortly.  Marley was born March 11, 2009—is a little more than a year old. He is a mix of Rottweiler and Black Lab.  Neutered, vaccinated including leptospirosis.   This beautiful and gentle soul will very much appreciate a new life in a safe and secure environment!

  Harriet

This sweet Basset Hound girl is less than a year old and was rescued from a pound.  Harriet is a jolly girl, who is playful and sociable, not a mean bone!  Harriet is spayed, vaccinated—Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies—dewormed, heartworm tested negative.

An active young girl, she’d be great with children  or an active person or couple.  A cuddler as well, she is equally at home watching the game on tv or chasing the ball for real!  This freckled tri-colour is a sweetheart, likely might accept a cat with a bit of training.  Not for apartment or condo.

Harriet would do best with someone at home to keep her company as Bassets are very social dogs.  Can be crate trained.  This girl is covered in freckles and is a real doll!!

  Harley

This sweet natured and playful Old English Sheepdog is 80 pounds of love and devotion!  He is about 2 years old, neutered and up to date with his vaccinations. Heartworm tested negative as well.

Very friendly with other dogs, a touch intimidated by cats!  But curious about them.  Not possessive of his food or possessions and always ready to share.  Full of life, he is an amazing dog in many ways.  Was recently shaved due to being matted, he will look fantastic grown out and brushed by someone with the time to groom.

Housetrained and respectful in the house, Harley was given up as his owner felt that not having the time to interact with Harley was a detriment to Harley, who needed more attention than what he was getting because of work commitments.

This delightful Mini-Poodle is a soft brown shade like creamy  hot chocolate,-- age about 9 years young. In good health, but poor eyesight,  Cocoa is a nice boy, polite and a gentleman.  He expects to be treated gently and with consideration.

He is still observant and very smart!  Loves walks, he can see enough to still enjoy!   Given up because of his owner’s illness, Cocoa is neutered, vaccines up to date, dewormed, vet examined.  Loves the car and going places with you, he is the ideal companion!

Very good at the groomer’s, Cocoa is always a pleasure.  Because of his low vision, older respectful children only, but he’d really prefer a retirement with peace & quiet where he can listen to music, cuddle watching tv, sleep on the bed  and dream about tomorrow!

Ed is a very handsome 9 month old Collie Mix boy of 65 pounds, a large dog but not too large to manage.  Yet he would benefit from obedience class to make him the perfect family dog.  He likes people and seems to  along well with other dogs, we don’t know about cats tho.  Ed LOVES to be groomed, he stood patiently while he was bathed, dried, and brushed out.

Ed has one blue eye and one brown eye to add to his good looks!  He was found calmly wandering by a man who brought him to a pound—was never inquired about or claimed, so was going to be euthanized. Beautiful long hair and very distinguished! Soft eyes indicate a good family dog.  Knows “sit” and “give the paw” and was clean in his cage at the pound.  Ed is a deserving dog of a good home and has lots to offer a loving family in return.  He craves love and enjoys seeking affection and.  Ed is a very devoted dog

Neutered, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated including Bordatella, dewormed & defleaed just in case, and of course vet checked!

No, not THAT Rambo!!  I am a peacemaker, not a fighter!  I am a 17 pound mix of Shih Tsu and Terrier, 10 months old, and I have a BIG heart!!  I LOVE people & friendly dogs, kids, cats.  I am pee pad trained but you could train me to do it outside with a bit of effort.

I am very pleasant to be around, not overactive but I like to play.   Not crate trained but my previous owner said I am good in the house, and am no trouble. Everyone thinks I am soooo handsome!  And I am a real charmer!  Good in the car too.  Not a barker. I have a great appetite, and a wonderful outlook on life.

Given up by my owner who was moving, I am neutered, and have my vaccinations, all set to go.  I want someone who will be as devoted to me as I will be with them!

Edwin is loyal, affectionate, everything the cat lover in you could ask for,--a low-key boy, suave and confident, yet with sensitivity.  Looks , charm, and devotion—he offers you all  this and more in a 14 pound bundle of grey and white coated love.

I am a dear BEAGLE of about 8 years, who was given up sadly because of unfortunate circumstances.  I am a dear and trusting girl, still with a nice energy.  I love my walks and just to cuddle up with you and relax.  I might be older, but I have Wisdom on my side.  Maturity has its charms!

There is a lifetime of love left in me for some lucky person!  We can pal together and be best friends, I will appreciate you as much as you treasure my presence.  I have a beautiful , expressively tender face, I am told.

Spayed, I have updated vaccines—Bordatella, Max 5, Rabies—dewormed, heartworm tested negative, I can pack my suitcase in a jiffy!!

  Kevin

This 33 pound, 10 month old HUSKY MIX is an absolute delight to have around—playful and very affectionate, kind-hearted and loves to hug!  Likes other friendly dogs and probably would be good with cats upon meeting them safely on leash for a first introduction.

Kevin was one of 3 pups seized along with 50 others by the SPCA from a hoarding situation and taken over by Gerdy’s to vet and place.  He only knows he is treasured and loved by all of us helping him, and is forming happy memories now he has another chance at a normal life.

He hadn’t been out until we took him over, so didn’t want to try to walk on leash nor step on grass, nor get into a car.  Now Kevin can do all those things with confidence.  Kevin needs encouragement to try new things while he is still a pup, and practice socializing.

He could benefit from having another dog in the new family to be his mentor.  Kevin is neutered, vaccinated Bordatella, Rabies, Max 5; dewormed, no fleas—and is anxious to get on with his new lease on life!

This Black Lab Mix boy (possibly some Great Dane in the family tree) was dumped at night at a gas station, frightened and unwanted and no identification.  He was found by a kind man and his wife, who asked if Gerdy’s could help him get a good loving new home.

He is a very good boy, very smart and very sweet natured, not a mean bone in his body!  He had a small patch of hair loss on his head that is filling in nicely now, NOT ringworm!!    He will be neutered when old enough, he is around 5 months of age now.

Vaccinated—Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella; Dewormed, no fleas.  This is a very sweet and playful puppy!

Hi folks!  Meet ME, a WONDERFUL mature 6.5 year old Golden Retriever. Ah! you say! But is this a fool of a dog? A big overgrown pup?  NO!! I'm VERY good with your children! AND — get this — BABIES too!! Trustworthy, a PERFECT FAMILY DOG!

My temperament is First Class Wonderful, and I am extremely LOVING! I am TRAINED and able to go off leash BUT only in a country setting or dog park—not just any old place, but you should establish a relationship with me first so I stick by YOU.  Now listen—I need lots of exercise and I LOVE long walks to keep my trim waist.  I get along fine with other dogs but I have not been really exposed to cats.   But I might like them.

Now folks—I’d LOVE to be in a home with someone there all day, I won’t do well being left alone while you go to work, because I love to be around people.  I am very good  in the house without you there, just I am so doggone SOCIABLE, I will stay beside you as you work on your computer, have your cup of coffee, --how many offers do you have of being WORSHIPPED?  THAT will be MY job!

My health is top notch and I am neutered, vaccines up to date-Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella; and I am heartworm tested negative, dewormed, and flea free.

I am a Boxer but a true gentleman!  Weighing in at 39.2 pounds of muscle and good looks, I am in the Flyweight Division as I am 8 months old.  Don't bet on me tho!  I will throw a fight because I am too kind, it just isn't in me to scrap! But I LOVE my training sessions--a good jog, horseplay, are my favourites.

I need more work in Obedience to polish my skill out of the ring at walking etc, but I am a quick learner and very smart.  I am VERY affectionate, not a mean bone--so you can see why my nature holds me back from developing my career. Heartworm tested negative, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, I will retire but will referee your life from now on with loving devotion.

My name is Betty and I am a sweet healthy domestic shorthair girl of about 3 to 4 years. I am spayed and have had all my shots. I was rescued at the very (very) last second before euthanasia! If the nice lady hadn't have come to the back of the clinic I would have been a goner the very next minute.

I am wonderful with dogs but a little timid with cats. At the moment I am in foster where I share the house with 2 dogs and 2 cats. There is some hissing going on between us but I mean no harm; I am just afraid. It is normal at first for all new cats til we get to know each other.

I would need a home with space to let me be at peace if this is what I desire. I will do fine with dogs and maybe another cat. Since I am a timid cat I don't think that young kids are a good idea as they might chase me or try and lift me and I am not accustomed to this. I do enjoy sleeping beside an adult in their bed and a good scratch on the head. I am to be an indoor cat only!

Hi!  I am very calm, loving, and attentive to those who would love me, and a prize purring machine!!  I am a male domestic shorthair (I PREFER “velvet cat”) of 8 years and I weigh around 11 pounds.  I am an easy-going guy, I am a lover, not a fighter!  If I were human I’d prefer classical music (no opera tho, hurts my ears!!) a good mellow port with my cigar, and of course a wingchair near a warm fireplace as I read a good book!

I used to be a Gerdy cat—so you KNOW I’m a great cat!—but the people who gave me a home all those years ago are now in a nursing home so I have come back to Gerdy to get a new loving home again, --she PROMISED me someone would love me again.  So if you want a Gentleman Cat, look no further!

I am neutered of course, and up to date on my shots, dewormed (how undignified to have to say that!!) and (horrors!)—no fleas.  There now, I have managed to say it all.  I have light green eyes and a Perry Como  purr—you can tell me all your secrets and I won’t tell anyone as I am a very loyal boy—please give me a chance, I will not disappoint you!  I will bring you much Lucky in your future!!

Baby Girl was given up because they were unable to care for her anymore.  She responds well to affection and has a nice attitude.  This little gal just needs a forever home of her own to bring a sparkle to her eyes to match the wagging of her tail!

I am a 3 year-old Shih Tsu Mix, NOT a hypoallergenic doggie!  I am 19 pounds, so am bigger for sure than a Shih Tsu, more the SIZE of an American Spaniel—a VERY handsome chap I am as well!  My owner couldn’t keep me anymore, she was VERY allergic and sad to give me up, so chose Gerdy to get me the good home I deserve!

I am GREAT with kids, friendly dogs, and cats.  Hey mom—I’m HOUSETRAINED too!  I am excellent in the car as a polite passenger, and travel well.  I have no food  or toy aggression, and I LOVE to give kisses—I am SO affectionate!  I cried a bit when my owner went out so maybe not for a condo or apartment, but I was not tearing the place apart with separation anxiety—you might like to crate train me for those times I would be alone.  But please, I don’t want to be left by myself all day!!

I am nicely playful, and love walks, and just being near my people.  We can cuddle on the sofa and watch tv, or you can take me visiting with you as I am very polite.  If you work at home, I’m your man, as I’d be content to keep you company and curl up near you as you get those assignments done—not a peep from me to disturb—well, I might like the odd smile or pat from you at coffeebreak time!

I am neutered, with vaccines, Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, dewormed, no fleas, will be heartworm tested in May.

A handsome rust colour, with trusting brown eyes, I am in good health and look forward to walks to slim me down, and to curling up near you as you relax.  You can confide in me, I will listen to every word.

I am neutered, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies, dewormed and no fleas.  I will be your own Winnie the Pooh!

  Adopted
  Spencer

Soon to be neutered, this dear boy is a cross between a Boston Terrier and a Pug—which makes him a BUG?? Spencer is one year old, and loves small dogs, cats, and children!  He does not bite at all and has a very gentle mouth.  His only problem is that he finds it hard to spend time alone, so a  wire crate is essential.

He will need a house with someone not worrying about neighbours as he is being crate trained at his foster and barks for a bit before he settles down, which should end as he learns to relax in his crate while the family is out.  Cannot be left alone loose as he will anxiously chew.  However, when people are home with him, his behavior is PERFECT.

Spencer is a little cuddlebug!  Walks well on leash. Willingly wears a winter coat but still does not love his hat and  boots, but will wear them!  He never bites or nips!  Will sleep with you if you want. Spencer does not like closed doors inside, and will ask you to open it!  Very afraid of large dogs as he was badly bitten by a big dog as a puppy.  Very quiet little boy, but in the home he will bark playing around the vacuum or when you leave.

Spencer had been rescued as a pup and has come a long way in his confidence since.  He is a handsome chap with the snuffles of a Pug when enjoying his walk!  One of the most adorable dogs we’ve had, this little chap is vaccinated Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies; heartworm tested negative, dewormed, no fleas. His savior loved him very much, but had to give him up for health reasons. Your heart will melt when you meet Spencer!

Here I am, not a Chipmunk, but a great boy of a dog with pretty stripes!! I am about 52 pounds and estimated about a year old.

Why I ended up about to be euthanized at a pound, I do not understand.  But my time there had run out waiting for a new home, I was going down.   Gerdy came and took me and Bridey into safety. I had my head up front looking at Gerdy so grateful driving back!

Well Gerdy says I am a VERY good dog and will make someone a great pet.  Very gentle, affectionate, and for an untrained dog I walk VERY well with a bit of gentle guidance—imagine what I could do with real training classes!!  I have a MAGNIFICENT head—they say—so regal and dignified, and gentle brown eyes.

I try to please as well, as I want to make a good impression and get myself a loving forever home. Good with other friendly dogs. I am a Shepherd mix you can see in my face, but the rest of me is a Designer Original—God had something handsome and dramatic in mind tho, and broke the mold after me!!

Neutered, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, and Bordatella like Bridey, with heartworm test negative, and dewormed & defleaed in case.  Fully grown, I am ready to wear my heart on my dogcoat sleeve for you!

  Tippy

TIPPY, SHELLY, and FERN—were,  along with 5 other dogs, removed from an apartment along with 2 dead dogs, amidst dreadful filth—including feces,  because they were NEVER allowed outside.  Such is the tragedy of animal “collectors”—people who have this mental condition do not notice or care, they just take in animals but are not mentally able to see suffering, even dead bodies.

All of the dogs removed from this situation had never been outdoors so were afraid to walk outside.  Since then they were all rehabilitated and Gerdy took 3 of them looking for homes.  NOT HOUSETRAINED understandably, but smart and quick learners!   They are as follows:

TIPPY

This 30 pound black boy, being young, is still at the puppy chewing stage so should be crated when no one is home.  He is VERY sweet and friendly, we think would be great as a family dog, he is likely 8 months old or so.  A Border Collie mix mutt—he is active, playful, and full of beans and the joy of life!  His good nature was not dampened by his situation, but he needs guidance in training to walk on leash well.

He is very cute!  Fully trusting.  Will need housetraining, but is smart and will be a fast learner! Neutered, vaccinated Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies, dewormed, no fleas, heartworm tested negative.

  Kodie (aka Toby)

This 4 month-old big ball of fur is a Golden Retriever pup. A nice energy for his age, very sweet natured, eager to please little boy.

Toby is very smart and will learn fast.  He is going to be a BIG dog when he grows up.  This handsome blond is a typical Golden already, loves to be with people and lots of love to give and receive.  He is already 26 pounds and growing!  A great family dog for a forever home!

  Kimo

Kimo is 8-9 years young and seems to be a SILKEN TERRIER, he is now groomed and cute as a button. Kimo is around 15 pounds and was given up because of a serious illness of his beloved owner.

Kimo is loving and playful, and suited to an adult home as he was not brought up with little kids, he is nervous of the little ones, perhaps he was dropped at one time.

However he is a good boy and LOVES his walks and carrides.  He is very much a Mama’s Boy!  Neutered, vaccines up to date—Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies, dewormed etc, Kimo looks for a home where he can be treated like the Prince he is!

  Kiki

I ended up, in a  pound, a homeless boy with a collar saying “KIKI”.  So somebody loved me once!  They kept me for 2 weeks, but no one called or came looking for me, so I was scheduled to be euthanized.  But Gerdy found me and took me into her rescue!  They say I am very handsome, a male Domestic Longhair  of caramel and white, yellow eyes full of trust.

I am neutered, now have been vaccinated, dewormed, defleaed (just in case!), FIV/FelV tested negative, vet checked and ready to go.  I weigh 13 pounds,  am about 4-5 years old and I was very loved at one time because I  am a real Prince Charming!  But now I am lonesome and on my own in the world, seeking a protector who will care for me the rest of my days.  I am a laid-back boy, unruffled and stoic on the outside, but a cream puff on the inside looking for love!

I will be groomed shortly as my lovely coat needs some care after I was out on my own.  I’d love a nice warm catbed near you while you work and I promise I will not walk over your keyboard!!

  Lola Lee

And what a nice girl she is, super friendly, and gorgeous as well.  Lola is a BLACK LAB mixed with a bit of traveling salesman GERMAN SHEPHERD, and is about a YEAR old, a very striking coat, Black Lab with German Shepherd brown on her legs, white chest patches!  Was found wandering with no home, frightened,  and IN HEAT.  SHE IS NOW SPAYED and ready to be adopted!!

Has had her vaccines, deworming, no fleas!  She is exceptionally GENTLE; loves people and gentle children, this tender hearted girl would likely accept cats well.

This is a very SPECIAL  girl and deserves a good life as they all do!  She is about 44 pounds, just a nice size for a family dog!   Let her dream come true—“Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets”—a forever loving home!

  Adopted
  Sandra

Little Sandra is about 6 months old and is a 35 pound Collie mix.  There is not a mean bone in  Sandra, who was going to be euthanized at a pound because no one wanted her after she was found wandering.    She is her own little soul, so friendly, but slightly shy—when we saw her she came without our prompting,  right to us almost on her belly, in a juvenile effort to seek out affection-- as once she got close, she gave a kiss and promptly wanted a belly scratch!  What a CHARMER!

She has the softest eyes possible!  This is a GREAT family dog in the making, a real treasure.  Likely some housetraining will be needed but hey, she’s smart and a quick learner!  Likes people and other dogs, this gal would make a great second dog as well.  Likely would be a cinch to get along with cats who know how to manage playful young dogs.

Spayed, heartworm tested (negative), vaccinated including intranasal Bordatella, dewormed, defleaed in case, vet examined in good shape.  A nice age for puppy obedience training, she should be top of her class!

My new family didn’t have time for me anymore, so I came to Gerdy’s.  Everyone who sees me  says that  I am completely ADORABLE and good natured.  At 3 to 3 1/2 months old and 15 pounds,  I am a German Shepherd/Collie Mix,  as cute as pie & nice as well.

I behaved very well at the vet,  and with BIG  paws, likely I will be a good-size girl when I am all grown up, and I have beautiful markings as well.  I will be spayed by Gerdy’s which is included in my adoption fee, and also my puppy Max 5 & Rabies; I am dewormed and no fleas. Everyone at the clinic loves me, and I hope you will too, and adopt me as your forever girl!

This lovely lady is a senior of 10 years, declawed on all 4 paws.  Now she has been shaved, as her fur was dreadfully matted, but will grow out as beautiful as in the photo. She is being given up because of allergies.

Filomena would do well in a home with adults or older children—she is affectionate and enjoys the warmth of a lap.  Very quiet, calm cat that asks nothing but a chance to lay in a sunny spot  as she daydreams in the comfort of her retirement.

I am a strong 9 month old mix of Black Lab and likely Mastiff—a BIG active baby  girl of 75 pounds.  I am HOUSETRAINED .  I CAN LIVE WITH CATS AND DOGS. I am looking for a house with a spacious and fenced back yard where you can exercise me, I love going to the dog park with other friendly dogs, and because of my size and exuberance—I am still a puppy—I need to be in a home experienced with big dogs and confident people who can teach me my doggy manners—Gerdy can recommend a trainer to go in to my new home for private lessons.

However, if you are kind but FIRM with me, you will see I am very obedient and I will do everything you expect of me.  I am spayed, and heartworm tested negative, have vaccines to date, Max 5, Rabies and Bordatella.  Dewormed, no fleas.  I traveled well in the car going to the vet.  I am beautiful, they tell me, with a massive and regal head, friendly eyes!  I am actually a big sweetheart!  Very intelligent, I just want to please my new family.  Please give me a chance.

As you can see, I am already dressed for the Ball!  I am a 3 ½ month-old Boston Terrier boy, whose owner feels terrible giving me up, but she developed a bad allergy to me—so here I am!  I am a very good boy, who LOVES to play.

I am crate trained and sleep through the night if you cover my crate with a bathtowel so I know it is dark and time for a nap. I am trained to pee on my pee pad but my foster mum is also taking me outside for a bit. I need more work on poo-poo but I am a smart boy and can be trained in no time perfectly by an experienced dog person.

I am fascinated by the cats at my foster’s and love their dogs, one of which is socializing me in doggy manners as I was taken from my mother at 7 weeks of age, so I am learning fast polite doggy ways.  I have my puppy vaccines and will be neutered as part of my adoption fee, and am dewormed, with no fleas.  This TUXEDO looks better than anything by Armani!

Moose has more white on the face.

We are two domestic shorthair  males of approximately 6 months old.  We were living outdoors when we were trapped and brought to the St-Lazare veterinary hospital.  We have come a long way because we were very scared of people, having no social contact at all as kittens!  We now love the attention.  We were very lucky.  If we can be adopted together, that would be great because we depend on each other so much.  If not that's ok because we will be so grateful to have a home of our own.  We are spayed, vaccinated and dewormed.

  Adopted
  Goldilocks

This beautiful soul was saved from a pound where her time was up, she was going to be euthanized.  Such a gentle and loving dog who wants only to receive the affection she craves -- not a mean bone in her --, was one of 10 dogs seized by a municipality from a man (6 later returned to him by the municipality!) who was not giving proper care.

Goldilocks is a Lab/Shepherd Mix, dog friendly,  and  is very thin, weighing in at 47.4  pounds, ribs showing. She needs decent care. She tries to hug you, she is so loving!    They were the last of his 2 dogs left at the pound, the other 2 were placed  but no one wanted to take the mutts, they were left to die.

Gerdy took them.  She rode back in the  car so happy to be wanted, going straight to the vet.  There she had her vaccines, deworming, de-fleaing,  and HEARTWORM TEST.  SHE TESTED POSITIVE.  Gerdy’s will assume the cost of her heartworm treatment at our vet.

It is apparent that she has had babies.  This girl is only about 1 year old, and in spite of all she has gone through, she will be a WONDERFUL family dog for a lucky caring family, hopefully with  a more calm environment for her treatment time.

She is attentive and very intelligent!  Just wants to please!  Her eyes are full of trust and hope—we will get her heartworm treated, can she recover in a new loving environment as YOUR dog?

  Daisy

This delightful 8 year old girl is a Black Lab mix, who is a great girl in every way—wonderfully patient with kids, loves other dogs, LOVES people—she enjoys going to the dog park!  Does not guard her bowl, likes cats, has never been destructive in her previous home.  Never barks at home, only to warn of unknown presence or if playing at the dog park having fun.  Can be left alone in the house while you are at work.  Will stay on her bed until granted permission to leave it, she will obey the command ‘Tapis”.  Good in car travel, content to sleep on the back seat and enjoy the ride.  Spayed and vaccines up to date, heartworm prevention taken as well, this sweet girl was given up because a baby is expected and they no longer have time for Daisy.  Would you like to pick this Daisy?

Update:

Daisy developed a behavior issue in her adoptive home and was returned.  After some time back with us, she was rehabilitated and no longer displayed the old problem.  She was placed on a trial adoption, that turned into a permanent adoption, and is a treasured member of her new family, very happy, with another dog pal and a cat!  And very loved.

  Adopted
  Sparkie

Sparkie is a 4 month old mix of Yorkshire Terrier and ShihTsu—and what a handsome boy!  His coat is a mixture of short rust colour and long black curls, with dark brown button eyes!   He is very well -socialized with people and dogs, and is an absolute darling in personality.

Barks a bit in his crate then goes to sleep and sleeps through the night -- well -- til close to 6 am!!  Let out immediately, he will do his bathroom duties.  He is ALMOST trained in the house.  He is a REAL LAP DOG contender!  But loves to run around the house with the foster’s other dogs playing happily.  He is just learning to climb stairs.  He is nearly 7 pounds.  Right now he gets a bit car sick as he is not used to travelling, but that should improve with time.  He is amazingly “calm” for such a young pup, loves to cuddle!

This is an exceptional little soul  for someone wanting a devoted wee dog.  Illness in the family is the reason for giving him up.  This is a boy who will need someone with him through the day to love him and give the attention he craves.  Older children please as he is small and is not for the rough play of little kids.  Good company as a second little dog in the household if the first dog is friendly and playful.

Sparkie will be neutered by Gerdy’s vet when old enough, about 5 ½ months,  included in the adoption fee. He has his puppy vaccines up to date, Bordatella as well, and is dewormed and flea-free.  Good to go!  Sparkie is ready to light up your life!

  Slinky

Who could have deposited this wee 10.4 pound boy on a golf course to be luckily found, in time,  half frozen? But he was one LUCKY dog, as he was taken to safety and made his way to Gerdy’s Rescues. He is estimated to be a year old and is full grown.

We think he is a mix of Mini Schnauzer/Jack Russell/and a dab of ShihTsu—but he IS a mix of something  and a dear one, whatever his origins!  He is now neutered with his vaccines, dewormed, no fleas, vet checked.  He is currently in foster care, where he is friendly and plays with the family dogs very nicely; and is learning to respect cats there too!

His foster mum says he is interested in the cats but keeps a respectful distance as the cats are giving him a reminder if he forgets and curiosity gets his nose too close.  He is very social with people, friendly, an extrovert.  He seems housetrained as he has had no accidents so far.  Not a barker!  Nicely behaved, playful.  Does well in his crate at night or if left alone for a bit.

His funny curled tail  looks like a spiked ostrich feather! Go ahead, be a Big Kid playing with YOUR own Slinky!

  Zorro

Courtesy Listing - This is not a Gerdy’s dog but we will pass along any inquiries to the person who saved him. Placement arranged between the parties themselves. The following Bio was perpared by the Foster:

I am writing you for some help. I live in the country and work at a vet clinic. Just before the holidays a stray was brought to the clinic found wandering the streets. Being the 24th of December, the clinic was just about to shut down for the holidays, and a foster home was needed. I took "Zorro" home, and since then, have been trying in vain to re-home him.

Yes, he is a PIT BULL, about 2 years old, and weighs approx 50 pounds, but oh my gosh, as sweet as pie!! I had no idea they were so GENTLE!   In my opinion, he has gotten lost as opposed to being abandoned, but no one has claimed him. He spent Christmas with us, and even made it into all the photos!!! My 2 nephews, aged 15 and 18 enjoyed him thoroughly, as he is very affectionate and LOVES TO BE PETTED, to the point where he will grab your arm and pull it towards him to get you to pet him!

He travels perfectly in a car wearing a seat belt, and as you can see from the attached photo, he is so PASSIVE!  Not a mean bone!   Found out he loves to get up on the couch, as opposed to his bed on the floor. He's NEUTERED and has been TRAINED, (no house soiling and even asks for the door!) and listens very well. Cats are definitely NOT in the cards for him!!! Because of this, no dogs smaller than him should be in the home either.

Without a doubt he is strong, but I am using a Halti with him and it works fabulously.  Because he has immense strength, not recommended for kids under 15 years old as they’d have difficulty walking him.  Zorro was clearly loved at some point in his life and well raised.  Can YOU be his new loving family?

  Dooby

Dooby is a slight 8 month old Oriental Red who for a better name should have been called ‘Flip Flop’.  His previous owners were no longer interested in having him due no time to love him.  Dooby has not only expressive blue eyes, but he has a human like quality as seen in most Orientals.

He is talkative, friendly and very affectionate who flops on the floor for affection, grooming and petting time.  He is such a wonderful and loving boy who is not only beautiful from the outside, but he has the insides to match.  Dooby is presently living with 5 feline friends which he adapted to almost immediately.

He also is being quietly introduced to his canine foster mates as he has not been socialized with dogs fully but he is making amazing progress.  He has no aggressive tendencies with people, cats and dogs and will integrate beautifully with any loving FOREVER family.  Dooby is a wonderful example of the Oriental temperament and those who love this breed would appreciate his gentle and loyal nature.

Dooby has been neutered, FIV/FelV tested negative, dewormed, no fleas, vaccinated, and vet checked. One conversation with Dooby and your heart will be filled with joy, admiration and endless comical entertainment.  Quickly make an appointment to meet Dooby, as this boy is unique and a real ‘one of a kind’.

Age is no reason for this, Jasmine is happy and healthy, and has been a lucky cat to be so  long-lived.  Yet now her owner doesn’t want her, so someone who knows Jasmine WELL  is trying to save her life—she has until FEBRUARY 1  to find her a new home—and  needs someone who is willing to provide Jasmine with nothing more than security and warmth and love in her senior years, and nice soft food.

Jasmine is NOT DECLAWED, loves a scratching post and is a gentle yet still playful cat with a keen sense of humour—she has all her marbles Jasmine  would tell you with dignity, and just needs a home ideally with no other pets so she can just sit in the sun and dream happy thoughts peacefully!  An INDOOR girl, Jasmine is a Domestic Semi-longhair Tortie who is a true Glamour Cat—still beautiful after all those years.

Well here I am and what a movie-worthy  adventure getting here—I used up several of my 9 lives I am sure!!  First of all I was born in a Cree village up on James Bay.  But my owner didn’t want me to grow up, and when I was no longer a tiny helpless kitten,  I got dumped on the street when  my person got herself another wee kitten!

So there I was, abandoned and  alone on the street. A man saw me being abused by some cruel boys on the street  and took me away from them  and had me flown to the security of his home in the  Montreal area.  Now they are seeking a home for me where I will be loved forever.  A condition of getting me will be that I will be spayed!!  I am now dewormed and will be getting my shots soon.

What more could you ask—I am about 5 months old, a sweet Domestic Shorthair female kitten—you should see me play so happily with my toys—I never had a toy before!  I am good with other cats, great with kids and could get used to a nice dog.  I ‘d LOVE to sit with you, and get petted.  But most of all I’d LOVE to watch you work on the computer.  Can you grant  me my fondest wish?  Being loved forever after?

Alice is rather petite at 30.2 pounds and has the look of a juvenile, but is really about 1 ½ years old.  Very trusting, dog friendly, she too would make a wonderful family pet, not a mean bone in her, she has maintained her trust in people as well and is also like Goldilocks, very friendly.  Alice is a German Shepherd Mix with a great personality.

She will be spayed very shortly, has her vaccines as well—Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies as we give all our dogs, heartworm tested NEGATIVE, dewormed & defleaed in case.  Can you give Alice her Wonderland at your home forever?

A rich butterscotch and caramel colour, I have the hair of the poodle but it is fluffy, not curled.  I am not a hypoallergenic dog because of my mix, but I do not shed too much.  I LOVE my toys.  I am crate trained as well, and I like kids and meeting other friendly dogs.  I am SO handsome with a face that invites smiles from everyone.  Active, I enjoy my walks and playing with my toys that you can throw for me.

Neutered, vaccines up to date—bordatella, Max 5, Rabies—heartworm tested negative, dewormed, I am good to go!   My owner could no longer keep me, so I am looking for a forever family of my own—are YOU the one for me?

She weighs 43 pounds and is estimated to be about 2-3 years old at the most.  A treasure of a girl, she is spayed, heartworm tested negative, dewormed, no fleas, vaccinated Rabies, Bordatella, and Max 5, vet checked.

Everyone’s gentle friend COLLEEN can already sit and shake a paw—and her Irish eyes are definitely smiling!

This year old Shih Tzu mix is very loving and is an interested, active little boy who is neutered, vaccinated—Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies; heartworm tested negative, dewormed, no fleas—this dog has only one fear—coming out of his crate, he does not like to be physically taken out.  This is a new activity and likely will stop if he merely is allowed to leave the crate on his own, or baited out with a treat. Also, given the opportunity he will eat his stool, so it just needs to be removed as soon as done.

There are simple ways of dealing with that habit as well to discourage it.  This is a very loving little dog of about 14 pounds, cute as can be.  Neutered, vaccinated—Max 5, rabies, bordatella—dewormed, heartworm tested negative and on heartworm preventative—Maxie was given up because of lack of time anymore.

Charlotte is a semi long hair black ebony girl of six years. Because of allergy she is seeking a new forever home. Her eyes are wide bright pale greenish-yellow. She is definetely affectionate, likes to be close by her person. She is semi independant and quiet; she would not jump on your lap but comes next to you, rolls on her side to be petted and then purr softly. She likes to be in the room with you rather than be on your lap—great for someone working from home!!

She has been through enough in her life!  2 ½ years ago she was rescued from a bad situation, she had been malnourished and mistreated.  At that time she developed a liking for TOMATOES that had been left out in a basket—it was the only food she survived on just before her rescue.  Charlotte is sort of shaped like a Main Coon, with fluffy hair and a bushy tail.  To give her a face a saucy and amusing expression, she has one canine tooth slightly longer than the other—a very cute feature.

DECLAWED by the previous owner, she must be an indoor cat, though he put her out to fend for herself when absent for long periods from the home, how helpless that made her!!  Charlotte is spayed, will be vaccinated, dewormed & defleaed  at vet by present owner at his expense before she is placed.

She is a 4 month-old kitten found on a balcony, all alone and hungry.  She is being vetted.  She is a Domestic Shorthair, very kind and sweet as she is described to us.  We will refer any inquiries we get direct to the person caring for her, she is not a Gerdy’s cat.

  Chelsey

Chelsey is a gorgeous, petite 3 year old female collie X husky.  Chelsey’s background story is a mystery filled with questions but we can start by what we know. Chelsey was ‘used’ by a puppymill breeder – this we know as she was surrendered to a pound.  Her disposition and temperament however tells another story.

Chelsey is a friendly girl who knows her basic commands.  This indicates that she was once  owned by someone before she was used for breeding.  She has a kind and gentle demeanor however there are signs of physical abuse as she will cower when voices are raised or there is fast hand movements.

Regardless of her disturbing past, Chelsey is a loving girl that will do anything to please her people.  She has shown forgiveness and also shows an incredible enthusiasm to continue her life’s journey on the right paw.  Chelsey is looking for a family that is gentle, loving and also energetic.  She is looking for that special someone that will provide her with security and re-enforce that she is now safe and will be loved from this day forward.  Chelsey also is good with other canine companions but has not been cat tested.

This girl deserves the very best…..and she will finally get that opportunity to show the world that she has survived, has forgiven, and is ready to move on.

  Snow White & Pinocchio

Brother and sister kittens:

Born July 19 2009, were given their first vaccination September 10 along with their first deworming pill. Their mother was a stray who moved into a compassionate woman's back yard, pregnant, looking for food and safety.

After gaining Mum's trust by being fed morning and night, she was brought in and housed in the safety of a bedroom a week before she gave birth, so the kittens were born indoors.  (Mum and a 3rd kitten were subsequently adopted!)  Mum was tested for Feline AIDS/Leukemia which was negative and was vaccinated--all were deemed by vet healthy.

Snow White

The first to do everything -- she was the first out of the 'nest' her mother and benefactor created for them, the first to figure out what to do in a litter box and the first to stick her tiny face in her mother's food bowl to begin the weaning process.  She loves to play and is especially good at hopping and jumping.

Pinocchio

Her brother is also a want-to-be trampoline artist and is likewise a consummate hopper and jumper (he really does belong in a circus); he is a little more laid back than his sister however and is more inclined to stay still for a brief moment for a quick belly rub although little sister certainly enjoys a chin scratch or two (in between hops!).

This little Domestic Shorthair is desperate for help in getting a home.  She is spayed and vaccinated, comes when called, and is a 5 month old baby living outdoors being watched over by a kind woman and fed.

She needs a home soon!  She’d love to be inside NOW but has had no luck in finding someone to take her in.  If you can help this homeless girl, please contact us and we will pass it along to the woman caring for her outside.

Our own space is maxed out—let’s get this girl a safe and loving home as an INDOOR-only cat please, as soon as possible!

This enterprising boy needed help when he found himself homeless and wandering along a  country road.  His feet were sore & he was hungry, so he went to the nearest door along his journey and asked to go in!  One look at his dear and expectant,  about 7 year old face, and the kind woman called Gerdy.

Wearing no collar or ID,  he soon found himself at Gerdy’s Rescues getting the full treatment—heartworm test (negative) and now on Revolution preventative, Max 5 & Bordatella vaccines, plus Rabies, dewormed, defleaed, and neutered—all set for adoption!

We don’t quite know his family tree, he is not a big boy, he is about 34 pounds.  He LOOKS like Spitz/Border Collie/shepherd mix with a stretch of the imagination—an artist original!!   He has an old injury on one of his rear paws that was treated with antibiotics, but now he walks well. Rides very well in the car, obedient, and well-behaved.  This traveler wants to settle down with you!

Flea was born March 20, 2009 and is now 6 month old.  The owner couldn’t keep her anymore so asked Gerdy to find her a good home, this was a loved dog.

FLEA is a silver shadowed brown Husky, perhaps a mix.  She will not be a large dog, just a nice manageable size!  She has a very sweet nature, is kind and loving, interested in getting affection most of all. Very graceful, and feminine.

Flea is spayed, vaccinated Max 5, Bordatella, and Rabies, dewormed,-- no fleas on Flea!  She is beautiful both inside and out and a real charmer, with her liquid brown eyes and intelligent face.

Feline FIV/Leukemia tested negative, spayed, shots, no fleas or parasites, Beautiful Betty is ready to be your forever companion.

Hello everyone!  I am only 10 months old and I am SUCH a nice girl, and a good looker too!!  I am a mix of Papillon / Pekingese and I have the best features of each of my parents!  I am NOT a barker really, well I can bark a bit if I am excited seeing another dog to play with but otherwise I am quiet indoors.  Well tempered, very socialized, a real cuddler, great to walk—THAT’s ME!

Spayed, heartworm tested negative and on Revolution, vaccines Max 5, Bordatella, Rabies up to date, dewormed, no fleas, I am very intelligent and quick to bond to loving people.  And I have the biggest SMILE!!  Just for YOU!

  Baileys

A wonderful girl—kind, gentle & loving!  Ideal family dog without a mean bone in her body. Good with other dogs and enjoys playing.  Her favourite thing is to snuggle up under the duvet, day or night!!  She would not be an apartment or condo dog as she will bark if excited playing or hears an intriguing noise outside.

Not crate trained but would benefit from the use of one—however she is FULLY HOUSETRAINED and only chews things you give her to chew!  About 30 pounds, she is a nice manageable size to cuddle and snuggle with, loves children—untried with cats.  Responds inside the house to basic commands –sit, stay etc but forgets when outside, so needs obedience training—would benefit from classes.  Fairly good on leash, pulls a bit but as she is easy to handle will not pull a person off balance.  If she got loose would not have the sense to stay, but would run and get lost.

So needs a secure home and securely fenced yard ideally.  Baileys is about 3 years old and is a mix of German Shepherd (stretching your imagination because of the smaller size!) and whatever her travelling salesman of a dad was.  Smooth, mellow and soft—just like her namesake, Baileys Irish Cream!

Spayed, Vaccines updated—Bordatella, Max 5, and Rabies, heartworm tested negative, on Revolution heartworm preventative, dewormed, no fleas, and ready to be enjoyed any time of the day or night!

  Wally

Abandoned by his family, Wally is a mix of Black Lab / Spaniel,  we think.  He is a very handsome young boy of  8  months.  Very social, Wally likes children and would likely be ok with cats, tho not tried with them. Wally is about 34 pounds.

An idea family pet, Wally could benefit from a basic obedience course in walking to make him perfect.  He can sit on command and shake a paw.  Not a mean bone in him, he is very trusting.

Wally is now neutered, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated—Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella; on Revolution heartworm preventative, flea & parasite free.

WHERE’S WALLY?   He could be forever in your home and heart!

At 7 years old, this wonderful-in-every-way yellow LAB is a family’s dream dog!!  Jasper is the most fun-loving, playful, GENTLE dog who is happiest just being beside you as you pet him.  He is thrilled to see you as you come home and makes you feel that you are the most valued person in the whole world!   HAS NO SEPARATION ANXIETY.  Vet examined recently, no medical problems, in fine shape.  EXCELLENT WITH CHILDREN!!

Friendly with other dogs, he is NOT AGGRESSIVE at all.  Backs off if another dog threatens him.  He LOVES PEOPLE SO MUCH!  When they come to the door he barks, but when they enter he sniffs & licks them.  His WORST trait is that he will buzz around the table as you eat, trying to put a paw in your lap to coax you to donate something to him, but even that is not pushy!  When walked he pulls a little but can be corrected easily with practice. He JUST LOVES TO BE LOVED—that is Jasper!

He is neutered, up to date on vaccines Rabies, Max 5, Bordatella; heartworm tested negative and on preventative, no fleas, dewormed and good to go.

LOVES THE CAR DRIVES!!  This is the most perfect all around family dog.  He was going to be sent to a pound and we just couldn’t let that happen—so here is your golden opportunity!  JASPER!!

This beautiful and sweet Black Lab mix is 49 pounds of love, and is about 2 years old.  Found by a man driving along a country road, she was laying in the middle of the road, too exhausted to get up.  Very skinny and full of fleas, she had to be carried to his car.  She had given birth to pups, but were nowhere to be seen. Likely the pups were kept for selling and she was discarded to die.

He brought her home, bathed her and treated her with his own dog’s Revolution to deflea her and fed her for a month to put some weight on her.  During this time, he tried to find someone to take her.  They taught her to sit, lay down, and shake a paw.  She loves the car, will sit quietly on the seat looking out the window.

This is one of the best behaved dogs we have ever had!  They could not keep her so contacted Gerdy’s when they felt she was ready to have a home of her own.  She will be spayed shortly, given vaccines Max 5, Bordatella, and Rabies, dewormed—she is all set for her forever home once the spay is done shortly. A gentle name for a gentle girl—this is a dog in a million!

5 month  old caramel colour Cocker Spaniel pup, very cheerful, he weighs about 14 pounds now, will be a small spaniel when full grown we think.  Typical active Cocker, not snappy, very sweet, loves to play.

Absolutely so handsome!  This pup was given up because of no time.  Dewormed, puppy shots, will be neutered by us, dewormed, no fleas.  Not a mean bone—great pet for older kids.  Not a dog to be left alone all day—too young!  What an opportunity for Cocker admirers!!

  Coco

This Chocolate Lab is a 10 month old happy bundle of young energy who needs kind training for manners—he is a work in progress—and will make someone who invests the time, care, and attention this boy truly merits, a wonderful dog!  He will be a masterpiece under the right person for him.  He needs kind discipline as his previous owner was older and realized he should not have got a wee  energetic pup after all!

This dog would likely benefit from being taught doggy manners as well by a well grounded, kind, and adult dog his size.  Coco is VERY loving and needs space to run off his energy.  Definitely for older kids, little ones he would bowl over in his happiness!  A person used to handling big dogs on leash would be best, but he is also trained to Gentle Leader we understand. He is VERY smart and with proper guidance will settle down well.

Neutered, vaccines to date, heartworm tested negative, dewormed, no fleas, this Chocolate is irresistible!

Jasper is a 4 year-old male mix of Beagle and German Shepherd!  Looks like a smaller version of a shepherd!  He is good with kids, non-destructive, with lots of energy to play!  He will bark to let you know there is someone at the door, but will not bite visitors or anyone!  He is quiet and good-natured, and doesn’t mind being alone all day while his person is at work. He has not been around other animals other than a female dog and we don’t know his response to cats; so we suggest no cats.  He is a beautiful black and beige, highly intelligent and a good learner.

He is neutered, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, dewormed and no fleas.  Jasper is ready to join a new household, he lost his old home due to family circumstances.  Dapper Jasper is ready to be loved again!

These 4 young cats are about 5 months old. They were found by chance,  huddled together with no mother, under a balcony, in below freezing temperature, victims of a society that abandons pregnant cats to the cruel outdoors rather than spay in the first place—these kittens would not have survived more than a few more hours outside, if that.

Rescued and taken indoors, they have had their shots and will be fixed when old enough to do so.  All very sweet babies. All domestic shorthairs.  Wonderfully playful and happy now they are saved.  Can you fit one into your life?

Buddy is a very sweet and gentle boy, not a mean bone!  He is a mix of Black Lab and Border Collie, he turned 2 years old on August 5, 2009, and is VERY loving and playful, but not hyper.  Will make a fine family dog, housetrained!

Not a big barker, does not bark often.   He is 61 pounds,  very sensitive and intelligent, and is good around other friendly dogs.  He is quite calm, so might be ok with cats but has not been tested with them. Neutered, vaccinated to date Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella, dewormed, defleaed just in case, heartworm tested negative, on Revolution heartworm preventative.  Wonderful and expressive dark brown eyes just melt your heart as you look into his very soul—such a GOOD boy!

NOTE:

GIVEN UP WITH HIS SON, “BEAR” as his people are moving.  IT WOULD BE GREAT TO PLACE THEM TOGETHER IF POSSIBLE AS THEY ARE VERY CLOSE but they can be separated to get good homes if necessary.

Bear

This is BEAR, the one- year-old son of BUDDY!  He was born on August 20, 2008.  BEAR is a HANDSOME boy, bigger than his dad BUDDY -- 70 pounds!  (He could do with more weight!).   His mother was a large Husky we were told—at any rate, he is a magnificent dog to look at, brownish along the neck and  upper back, turning a deep strong russet-red shade along his back—with the Border Collie accents of white.  He has gorgeous GOLDEN EYES that express his intelligence and sensitivity.

Very loving and playful as well, HOUSETRAINED, and does not bark often.  Very observant of his surroundings, he likes to cuddle with his dad BUDDY when sleeping!  Good with other friendly dogs, cats are a question mark—untried with them.  Like Buddy, quite easy to walk, they both know “Sit” as well.

Neutered, heartworm tested negative, on Revolution heartworm preventative, newly vaccinated Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella as was Buddy, he was dewormed and defleaed just in case by vet.

NOTE:

GIVEN UP WITH HIS FATHER, “BUDDY” as his people are moving.  IT WOULD BE GREAT TO PLACE THEM TOGETHER IF POSSIBLE AS THEY ARE VERY CLOSE but they can be separated to get good homes if necessary.

Blondie is to be spayed very shortly, is heartworm negative on her test, and started on Revolution heartworm preventative, dewormed, vaccinated and also Bordatella vaccine. Blondie has trusting chocolate eyes and can smile! Loves people, other friendly dogs, likely would get used to a cat with some assistance.

I am a seven year old neutered, champagne beige, domestic shorthair male.  Early in life I lost my human companion through a car accident. I have since been very busy loving and protecting a lady who was her friend.  Due to health reason she can no longer keep me and I am in foster care.

I am not only very affectionate but also very loyal and devoted.  I was nickname " Velcro " because I kept by her side at all times. I loved watching her TV programs and helping with chores.  I was also lovingly considered the perfect " Watch Cat " because even though I like visitors - when I sensed she was even slightly unsure of anyone - I was very vigilant and followed that person throughout the house to ensure they behaved.  Only a few times did I have to hiss to remind them they were being watched by a feline protector!

If you want a true companion - one who takes his job of showing devotion seriously - I'm your cat.  If you want a cat companion who lives for you rather than just with you - I'm the lad.  As I have a strong personality, it's best if can be your ONLY  cat.  I don't need another cat companion and neither will you!  I am enough cat for the both of us!

Declawed on front paws.  Eye color a beautiful green. Vaccinated, no fleas, dewormed and ready to pack my suitcase!

Lola needs her own special Human Guardian Angel!!

Lola is the dearest  ELEVEN and a HALF year old SHELTIE girl!   This is a super behaved and calm dog, a REAL TREASURE!  This Golden Oldie is not ready for retirement yet, she will tell you.  She loves her walks, and looks half her age.   In good health, has just been checked out by her vet.  She has several lipomas (fatty tumours, NOT cancer) that have been needle aspirated to confirm non-cancerous.  She does not need them removed.  She is in great shape.  Just met her first cat, did great!

She’d love a young girl child in her new family, as she was loved;  but HER young girl developed asthma not long ago, hence Lola needs rehoming.  Very child friendly, but needs gentle children considerate of her age.  Loving grandchildren would be perfect too!  Lola is housetrained, has her own comfy bed, and is easy to walk.  She is around 30 pounds or so, and loves the car.  She is very easy-going with not a mean bone.

Very aware of her surroundings she is mentally alert and has the prettiest face, so expressive!  She is spayed, shots up to date, also Bordatella vaccine. This beautiful and sensitive girl is very trusting and SO gentle—she was going to be euthanized as the family thought she’d never find a loving home at her age.

Well here at Gerdy’s we look for Angels  for these special dogs and you have never failed us yet!  So you Angels amongst us—“Little Lola wants YOU!”  Please! SHELTIE lovers needed!

At 6 to 8 months old, I have had a rough start in life! In the very cold weather of February, I appeared out of nowhere to a nice lady’s back door and frantically begged to be let in.  She realized that I had started to freeze my ears, and noticed how small and helpless  I was to be an outdoor cat.  But I was freezing to death, bit by bit, too young to survive on my own.

One of many on the streets this winter desperate to live another day.  Well, she found someone who contacted Gerdy about me and Gerdy took me in.  I will likely lose the tips or top half of my ears, but I am still a real sweetheart and a true Irish Rose!!

I am spayed now, FIV & FelV tested negative, vaccinated, dewormed & no fleas—I am ready to dance an Irish Jig of joy if you give me a forever home—and that’s no blarney!

This beautiful  2  old Standard Poodle is a warm brownish tone with a bit of white on his chest. Jack is 55  pounds.  Originally a puppymill seizure from the SPCA, this dog was very frightened and trusted no one.  He was seen and  fostered by a caring young woman who gave him his confidence back, but she had severe allergies and couldn’t keep him as she so wanted to do.  Also he had a huge lump on his back, so she had surgery done to remove it, it was benign.

Gerdy agreed to take him over and find him his forever home.  Jack is a dear dog who had a horrible start in life, he still needs gentle handling but has come so far and should bloom under loving care, he has learned how to play!  Even with the stitches along his back he is so handsome—it must have been so painful as well to Jack—now he is A-OK!

Jack has been neutered, heartworm tested negative, vaccines—Max 5, Rabies, Bordatella all up to date, on Revolution for heartworm prevention, dewormed, vet checked, and ready to go!  A couple who love to walk a dog or with older children, who will fulfill his needs, would be best.

Jack LIVED a whole lifetime in the time he had left,  happier than he had ever been, in the security of his new loving home.  Gerdy thanks Averil of PetFriends for taking care of Jack with dignity and care.  His family will be ever-remembered by us for standing by Jack when they could have returned him.

Jack had THE BEST.  And he deserved it.

  Abby

Abby is a healthy 23 lbs, 6 month old puppy that has fully recovered from demodex.  She has blossomed into a gorgeous petite framed girl adorned in a glistening black coat with a splash of white.  Abby is dog and cat friendly, however her playful nature will require her new human to continue to monitor this progression.  Abby is very intelligent and stubborn at times.  Again, she will require a course in basic obedience to reinforce commands.

Abby interacts very well with dogs in off leash dog parks.  She requires more leash training however as she wishes to greet everyone and everything with playful enthusiasm.  Abby does not chew furniture however has an affinity for slippers – so it is important to provide her with lots of toys.  Abby is not fully house trained and has the occasional accident which can be remedied with routine and positive reinforcement which requires someone is home during most of the day to continue to provide this guidance.

For anyone looking for a wonderful, soulful companion who would be ideal in tracking or agility, Abby is looking to fill her life and that of her new family with lots of love, play and affection.  This girl is a wonderful and innocent spirit who is looking to complete her life with a forever loving family.

Abby is de-wormed, fully vaccinated and spayed.

An abandoned cat herself, about a year old,  mama cat “KITTY” had her 3 kittens outside last August  and brought them when old enough to beg for food,  to the door of a kind woman.  This person felt sorry for them, she could not bring them inside as her indoor cat would not accept any other cats inside.

Kitty was a very wary, but friendly girl, who took such good care of her babies; she watched over them as the lady daily put food out for the little family. Then winter came, she fixed up a box outside for them to seek shelter from the freezing weather.  On a bitterly cold winter day she was able to coax the 3 kittens to go into her home and Gerdy took them to the vet and safety. But Kitty would not come in, try as Gerdy might, she  was a wise cat and did not trust humans.

One day the woman  looked out the window to see Kitty perched looking inside with a bleeding eye, seeking help.  It was bitterly cold outside, with a lot of snow. She coaxed KITTY  to come inside, and so Gerdy spent New Years Day at DMV vet hospital getting treatment!

One of her babies (Jewel) was adopted right away. Mama Cat is now so friendly and sweet natured as well as beautiful, her 2 remaining kittens, now half grown, turned out to be so very affectionate!  Now we need to find a home for each.  Mama and children have all been tested for FIV/Felv (negative), dewormed, defleaed, spay/neutered, vaccinated, vet examined as well.  In the prime of health!

Alex — Black & white male. Now 7 Months old.

Joy — Grey & white female with just a bit of white between the eyes.

Jewel — Grey & white female with more white on forehead than Joy. (Adopted)

I'm a 10 year-old domestic shorthair male with distinct walnut marbling on my head and coloring much like a Maine Coon. I'm big (15 lbs), but I'm in shape. In addition to my devastatingly good looks, I'm adventurous, cozy, affectionate and am often described as being a dog trapped in a cats body.

I like driving in the car (if I can sneak my head out the window I like the breeze on the tips of my ears), I have walked on a leash in the past, but am not as interested in that as I used to be. I LOVE bath time... seriously. I am very social and friendly. I love kids, dogs and as many people as I can get to scratch behind my ears. I'm an indoor cat - always have been and always will be - and have all my current vaccinations and am neutered.

My current owners have loved me every day, but their youngest daughter is asthmatic and has a severe allergy to cats. They are hoping that someone with a big heart and a lively home sees all the wonderful things I have to offer and will have me be a part of their family. I've got lots of love to give.

  Wilson

Wilson is adorable.  Just take a look at those eyes!  As an 8 month old Bernese Mountain dog, Wilson is still a puppy … he is very active and very playful.  He was given up because his past owner had health issues and could no longer care for him. This 85 pound baby is happy go lucky, energetic and friendly.  He is also housetrained.

If you have lots of space in your heart for a whole lot of love… and lots of space in your home for a whole lot of dog, Wilson could be the one for you.

All shots up to date, neutered and heartworm tested negative.

  Wiser

This adorable 7 week old Chocolate Lab Husky mix was rescued by a caring college student. He was abandoned in a lane and after realizing no one was coming back for him, she brought him home.  She named him Wiser because he seemed so smart for such a young boy.  This loving person tried to find him a home but then realized that although everyone loved him, no one could offer him a secure forever place.  She contacted Gerdy’s Rescue and so now he is being fostered with us.

Wiser is affectionate, comical and although it’s hard to believe, he gives a paw and sits. Talk about Wise(r)!  Could he be the one you take into your heart and home forever? Wiser is heartworm tested negative, dewormed and all shots up to date.

I'm a grey 7 year-old female  domestic shorthair with white mitts, white socks and a white trefoil over my muzzle. I'm pretty and I know it. I was found abandoned, pregnant and feral at 6 months old and was rescued by Gerdy. Since then I have lived with a loving family and another cat (Bogey).

I am still a little afraid of big male voices, loud noises, dogs and sometimes I can be furtive and shy around loud children. At heart I am affectionate and loving, and I like to sneak up on my owners while they are resting and nap on their bellies. I have a lot of love to give, but would be more comfortable in a home with a couple or a single owner that is home a lot. I'm independent but that doesn't mean I like being alone.  I am spayed and current with my vaccinations.

My current owners have loved me every day, but their youngest daughter is asthmatic and has a severe allergy to cats. They are hoping that someone trustworthy and loving, looking for a faithful companion will have me be a part of their family.

  Hogan

Almost a year old, Hogan was born on July 8, 2008. He is a very handsome hypoallergenic breed, white BICHON FRISE weighing 14 pounds. Hogan was given up because they no longer had time for him.  This sweet boy is nicely behaved and would make a nice family dog.

Hogan is neutered, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated for Bordatella, Max 5, and Rabies, vet examined, and dewormed, no fleas.  Be Hogan’s Hero and give this deserving boy a forever home!

  Puck

This great family dog is a 10 month-old Lab mix of about 58 pounds.  Given up because he grew larger than the size allowed in the condo.  Very affectionate & sweet, gets along great with other dogs. Loves going to the dog park to play.  Gets along with children, though he can accidentally knock over the wee ones unintentionally.  Friendly with strangers, former owner says he never nipped or growled at anyone. Not food or toy aggressive.

Puck sleeps happily in a crate, in fact goes to crate on command.   Best that new person is home so he does not get lonely by himself all day, he is very social, is excitable but not hyper.  Just 1 good long walk each day and he will happily sleep away the rest of the day.  He can shake a paw, sir, go down, and fetch!

Walks rather well on leash as long as he knows you are boss. COMPLETELY HOUSE-TRAINED (cries near the door to go out), understands "no", and only barks 2 or 3 times if a person comes to the door, very smart. Puck had his rear dew-claws surgically removed and has been neutered. He's also up to date on his vaccines, defleaed & dewormed.

  Lou

My name is Lou, and I am as easy-going as my name!  I am 9 months old, and am a male Poodle/Terrier Mix of 19 pounds.  You can still carry me around, but I’m too big for your purse!  I am a handsome silver grey with a touch of apricot.  VERY good natured, I like other dogs and likely would be good with a cat.  Playful, but calm for my age, I am easy to walk on leash.

I LOVE people and meeting new ones.  Very social, I do not beg for food at the table.  Would be a great dog to take to work, I am not a barker BUT if you sing, I will yodel!!  Housetrained, and a real gentleman.  I travel well in the car too!  Covered with neat curly hair, I would look smaller if I was groomed -- because I am, really!  I won’t get much bigger now, I am almost full grown.

Given up because of allergy (the terrier in me!) , I was a well loved boy.  I am patient, jolly, pensive, a baby, --but not a guard dog!  I am patient with everyone, not a mean bone in me!  Neutered, vaccines to date including Bordatella, no fleas or parasites, heartworm tested negative, and on heartworm prevention, I am good to go and live with you forever!

  Riza

Riza is an 11 year old male Persian, a majestic, proud and affectionate cat.  Riza sports a beautiful smokey colored coat and means that he requires daily grooming to ensure he is free of matting.  Riza’s front paws have been previously declawed.

Riza’s story is very sad for the human that once loved him and of course for Riza as well.  Riza’s caregiver and companion was an elderly woman who obviously loved him very much.  She brushed him everyday, ensured he had good food and dedicated herself to Riza.

Unfortunately, the woman was moved to a nursing facility where Riza was not welcomed to love his master until the end.  The woman’s daughter dropped Riza off at a shelter, without thought, concern nor care.

Persians are very sensitive and it was not long before Riza went into a deep depression and then illness.  Gerdy was heartbroken for the woman who will never know the truth and of course for a cat who pined for his loved master.

Riza is now in a foster home.  Though he is with felines and canines, Riza should be in a home with peaceful surroundings.  He is such a lovely boy, but he wants to be someone’s only love.

If you can provide Riza with lots of love and care, Riza is waiting for a new start in life from this day forward. Riza is neutered, tested negative for feline AIDS/Leukemia, vaccines to date.

  Ruffles

This sweet girl at about 5 months of age had been found tied up in an isolated industrial park in the freezing cold and left to die by someone.

She was by a miracle found by a woman driving by who noticed her in the snow and was horrified at her almost frozen condition, and took her to safety then called Gerdy.  Had that woman’s job not taken her to Montreal that day, no one would have found Ruffles in time.

She is now about 5 months old and is ready for adoption after being fostered.  She needs work on her toilet training now.  She is a kind and sweet dog without a mean bone in her body.  Ruffles is a little bit of a girl—likely a Yorkie/Mini Poodle Mix—lovely curly coat and dramatic coat colour.

Loves to be carried around or walked, she is very social.  She barks a bit  when excited, so perhaps not an apartment.  Will be spayed soon by Gerdy’s, vaccines to date, defleaed, dewormed—does your life need a little Ruffeling up?
